Margaret Malicky
BURWELL -- Margaret Malicky, 79, of Burwell died Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Burwell. The Rev. Bernard Berger will officiate. Burial will be in the Cottonwood cemetery in Burwell.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church. A wake service will be at 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to Valley County Home Health or Burwell Ambulance Supply Fund.
Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell is in charge of arrangements.
'Jimmy' Sich Jr.
ORD -- James "Jimmy" Sich Jr., 72, of Ord died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Ord United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jim Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Ord Bohemian Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted at the grave site by the Ord VFW Post 7029 and American Legion Post 38.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Valley County Hospital.
Mr. Sich was born Jan. 16, 1929, in Burwell to James A. Sr. and Rose (Masin) Sich. He attended District 35 School in Valley County and was a 1946 graduate of Ord High School.
In March 1951, he entered the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict as an E-1 Private and then E-4 Sergeant. He was a skilled demolition explosive technician and was a member of the Engineers Battalion. He was honorably discharged in December 1952, then enlisted in the Reserve Corps for five years.
He married
Virginia A. "Ginger" Wilson in Council Bluffs on Feb. 20, 1955. The couple farmed north of Ord for 20 years before moving into Ord.
On March 1, 1966, he and Mel Masin began S & M Farm Equipment, which they operated for 25 years. He was a salesman for one year when the business changed to Ord Equipment. He then retired and remained in Ord.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Elks Lodge, ZCBJ Lodge, Carp and Crow and Ord Volunteer Fire Department. He served as VFW Post 7029 Commander, VFW Department of Nebraska District 12 Commander, Veterans Memorial Board, Veterans Club Board and was Ord's Veteran of the Year.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, James "Jamie" A. III and Vickie of Grand Island and Jeffrey P. and Jonna of Ord; a daughter, Susan J. Pritchard of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren; and two sisters, Minnie Hosek of Ord and Lorraine Richards of Bloomington, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Dec. 19, 1998; one infant granddaughter; and three brothers, Lumir, Bob and Leonard.
Bertha Wooters
WESTERVILLE -- Bertha Wooters, 73, of Westerville, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at Jennie Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Sherry Sklenar will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church in Westerville.
Mrs. Wooters was born June 4, 1928, at Waco to Albion and Alvina (Herman) Van Ostrand. She moved with her family to Anselmo, where she attended school.
Later they moved to Westerville, and she attended Broken Bow High School.
She married
Guy Wooters on Nov. 20, 1946, in Broken Bow. They lived in the Central Nebraska area all their married
life. She worked in the Broken Bow community for several years, including work at Sandhills Manor Nursing Home and the Broken Bow Community Hospital. In August 1987, the couple moved to Westerville, where they lived since.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Westerville. She enjoyed baking, knitting and gardening.
Survivors include her husband of Westerville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Ellie of Lakeside and Dan and Dawn of Broken Bow; two daughters and sons-in-law, Monetha and Larry Spellbrink and Gaylene and Wayne Bennett, all of Palmer; 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 8 step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Florence Ritchie of Broken Bow, Edna Blakeman of Arnold and Fern (Carpenter) Schmidt of Seward; and one brother, Ernie Van Ostrand of Ord.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary; one son, Darrell; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.
Mary Baumgartner
PETERSBURG -- Mary T. Baumgartner, 95, of Petersburg, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at her daughter's home near Perham, Minn.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Rush Lake in rural Perham, Minn.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's Catholic Church in Petersburg.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church followed by graveside services at the parish cemetery. The Rev. Frank Baumert will officiate.
Fern Creech
YORK -- Fern I. Creech, 103, of York died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at York.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the East Avenue United Methodist Church in York. The Rev. Jo Harper will officiate. Burial will be in Vernon cemetery near York.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Monday at Metz Mortuary in York.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Creech was born Dec. 5, 1897, in York County to John and Catherine (Hathaway) McClatchey. Following her schooling, she taught school at Palisade, Boelus and York areas.
She married
Benjamin R. Creech on Aug. 2, 1919, in Aurora.
She was a lifelong member of the East Avenue United Methodist Church in York.
Survivors include two daughters, Elaine Borchers of Grand Island and Virginia Burroughs of Alma, Ariz.; a son, Benjamin Creech of Silver City, N.M.; three grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Rose; a grandchild; a great-grandchild; three sisters; and six brothers.
Mary Schacht
DENVER -- Mary C. Schacht, 68, of Denver, formerly of Grand Island and Amarillo, Texas, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, in Denver.
Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island.
Marie (Peters) Stingley
CHEYENNE, Wyo. -- Marie B. (Peters) Stingley, 87, of Cheyenne, Wyo., formerly of Ashton, died Aug. 15, 2001, at United Medical Center in Cheyenne.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Cheyenne. The Rev. Gerald Sullivan will officiate. Burial will be in Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.
Visitation was Friday at Wiederspahn-Radomsey Chapel of Chimes in Cheyenne.
Memorials are suggested to Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Cheyenne.
Mrs. Stingley was born March 25, 1914, at Ashton to Cornelius and Elnoria Peters. She lived in Ashton for 60 years. She retired from the laundry of DePaul Hospital after 15 years of service.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Holy Trinity Women's Guild.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Lewis Stingley, Jr.; three brothers, Ed, Lawrence and Albin Peters; and a sister, Mildred E. Curlo.
