'Pat' Stone-Krichau
THE COLONY, Texas -- Marilyn P. "Pat" Stone-Krichau, 70, of The Colony, Texas, formerly of Grand Island, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at the home of her daughter, Lisa, following illness from brain tumors.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Dwayne Bennett will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mrs. Stone-Krichau was born April 3, 1931 to Marvin and Lavona (Parr) Smith at their home north of Broken Bow. She lived in the Broken Bow area until 1948 when she moved to Lincoln. In 1952, she and her family moved to Grand Island. She spent the rest of her life in Grand Island except for the last nine months which she spent in Texas under the care of her daughters, Pamela and Lisa.
She enjoyed needlework, sewing, flowers, photography, traveling abroad and spending time with family and friends.
She has been a member of the First Baptist Church of Grand Island since 1954.
Survivors include three daughters, Pamela Drath of Arlington, Holly Braun of Fullerton and Lisa Moore of The Colony; five grandchildren; and a sister, Norma Mikkelsen of Florissant, Colo.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Airman Deborah Stone and a son, Steven Stone.
Louie Swartz
82, Construction worker
Louie Swartz, 82, of Grand Island died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. The Rev. Scott Jones will officiate.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Swartz was born Aug. 15, 1919, in Pilger to Walter and Minnie Swartz. He moved to Grand Island as an adult.
He married
Madonna Kudrna in September 1948.
Mr. Swartz worked as a roofer on numerous construction projects. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Koehler of Grand Island, Suzanne and Harry Lovell of Wymore and Lisa and Eddie Lovell of Geneva; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Louie and Susan Swartz of Blue Springs and Gary Swartz of Grand Island; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Jimmy Swartz of Grand Island, and a sister, Helen Mason of Hebron.
He was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.
'Bus' Christensen
MERNA -- Thomas "Bus" Christensen, 83, of Merna died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Evangelical Free Church in Broken Bow. The Revs. Bob Winn and Victor Karg will officiate. Burial will be in the Cliff Table cemetery west of Merna.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary.
Carl Lange, 84, Welder
WOLBACH -- Carl A. Lange, 84, of Wolbach died Friday, Aug. 17, 2001 at the Greeley Care Home in Greeley.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Wolbach, with the Rev. Marsha Jark-Swain officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside cemetery in Wolbach. Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the church with an 8 p.m. prayer service.
Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of services.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the family's choice.
Mr. Lange was born Oct. 26, 1916, to Asmus and Catherine (Petersen) Lange on the family farm east of Wolbach, where he grew up. He attended Greeley County rural schools, and after completing his education he began farming with his family.
On Oct. 5, 1940, he married
LaFerne R. Jacobsen in Wolbach.
The couple farmed for seven years before moving in to Wolbach. At that time, he started Lange's Welding Shop, which he operated for 48 years. He also worked for Omaha Steel and the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant in Grand Island.
Mrs. Lange died March 28, 1997. He continued to live in Wolbach until August 2000, when he moved to the Greeley Care Home.
He enjoyed baseball and attending auctions.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Wolbach, Wolbach Community Club, and was a Wolbach Volunteer Fireman.
Survivors include six daughters and sons-in-law, Carla and Willard Kunze of Palmer, Marlene and Larry Mostek of St. Paul, Diana and Tom Merriman of Lincoln, Donna and Victor Anderson of Wolbach, Kathy and Melvin Mahrt of Wolbach, and Sherri and Bob Molt of Spalding; 21 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and one brother, Henry "Hank" Lange of St. Paul.
He was preceded in death by his wife; three brothers, Ed, John, and Dick Lange; five sisters, Clara Thiel, Hilda Christensen, Anna Lange, and infant twin sisters, Elsie and Ella Lange.
Helen Yantzie
BROKEN BOW -- Helen I. Yantzie, 80, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001, at Sandhills Manor in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Evangelical Free Church in Broken Bow with the Rev. Keith Archer officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary.
Arlene Kilgore
Arlene C. Kilgore, 72, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at the St. Francis Medical Center Skilled Care Unit after a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Cheryl Lamb will officiate. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. in Greenwood cemetery in York.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Francis Cancer Treatment Center.
Mrs. Kilgore was born on Dec. 17, 1927, in York to George and Christina (Giebelhouse) Schleiger. She graduated from York High School in 1945. She worked for Hested's and Woolworth's during high school.
She married
Owen Kilgore on Dec. 22, 1945, in Salina, Kan. The couple lived in Wahoo, York, McCool Junction and Bancroft before moving to Grand Island in 1965.
She enjoyed planting flowers and being a housewife. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband; and two sisters, Mae Melton of Sacramento, Calif., and Frances Carr of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Connie; three brothers, George, Harold and Pete Schleiger; and one sister, Margaret Schlondorf.
Tony Abood
KEARNEY -- Tony Abood, 82, of Kearney died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital, where he had been a patient for three weeks.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the First Christian Church in Kearney. The Rev. Don Bryant will officiate. Burial will be in the Kearney Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary and before services Friday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Abood was born on Sept. 1, 1917, in Lexington to Emon and Anna (Corey) Abood. He grew up and attended school in Kearney.
He farmed south Kearney and raised produce. He and his brothers also operated the Abood Garage for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanetta; one son, William of Kearney; two daughters, Merilyn Macomber of Ogallala and Margaret Herrold of Grand Island; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by one son, six brothers and one sister.
