Elsie Jorgensen
LITCHFIELD -- Elsie V. Jorgensen, 79, of Litchfield died Thursday, June 28, 2001, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Riverdale cemetery with the Rev. Dean Pofahl officiating.
There will be no visitation.
Mrs. Jorgensen was born on August 30, 1921, in Moselle, Miss., to Arnold and Mittie (Shows) Loper. She grew up in Moselle, where she graduated from high school.
She moved to San Francisco, where she lived for several years and worked in a department store. She later moved to San Jose, Calif., and was employed by AT&T; for 20 years until retiring.
She married
David B. Jorgensen on June 15, 1974 in Reno, Nev.
They lived in San Jose then moved to Litchfield in 1980, where she has lived since.
Her hobbies included reading.
Survivors included her husband; one son, Bob A. Boughman of Laquay, Mo.; one daughter, Carol Clough of Atherton, Calif.; one brother, A. Leo Loper of Moselle, Miss.; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter and two brothers.
Bessie Swanek
CRETE -- Bessie M. Swanek, 86, of Crete died Thursday, June 28, 2001.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Ord. The Rev. Bob Rooney will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Ord Memorial Chapel, with a 7:30 p.m. rosary.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Katherine Pliva of Dorchester; one brother, Charles Vsetecka of Victoria, Kan.; two sisters, Rose Pechanec of Lacrosse, Kan., and Mary Cecil of Oklahoma City; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by both of her husbands, Earnest Pliva and Leonard Swanek; and one brother, Frank "Swede" Vsetecka.
William Janda
ORD -- William Janda, 84, of Ord died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ord United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Ord Bohemian Cemetery.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Janda was born Feb. 1, 1917, at Ord to Charles and Mary (Drudik) Janda. He was raised on the family ranch east of Ord in the Sandflats area of Valley County. He had attended rural Valley County schools. He entered the United States Navy on Oct. 1, 1941, and served on the USS Aldebaran, a supply ship for the seventh fleet. He returned to the family ranch east of Ord following his discharge on Oct. 3, 1945.
He married
Agnes Urbanovsky on Sept. 25, 1946. The couple lived on the Janda farm until 1991, when they moved to Ord.
He was a member of the Ord V.F.W. and American Legion, the D.A.V. and W.F.L.A. No. 437 and the Ord Elks Lodge.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Janet Niemeyer of Lincoln and Janice Cunningham of Lenora, Kan.; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Bessie Gibbons; two infant sisters; one brother, Charles Janda; and one infant brother.
Beulah Starmer
CLARKS -- Beulah J. Starmer, 87, of Clarks died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Litzenberg Long Term Care in Central City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Richard Fairbanks officiating. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.
Visitation is planned from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Clarks Methodist Church or the Long Term Care Activities.
Mrs. Starmer was born April 28, 1914, to Chauncey and Jessie (Moore) Hare in Schuyler. She grew up on a farm northeast of Schuyler in the Purple Cane area. She was baptized in the Methodist faith. She was educated in rural Schuyler and attended Schuyler High School.
On March 25, 1935, she married
Floyd W. Starmer in Schuyler. The couple lived in the Schuyler and North Bend area for several years, before moving to Washington State and then North Platte. In 1950, they moved to Fremont, where they lived for 15 years. She worked at several jobs as a cook. They moved to Grand Island in 1964, where she was employed with Hested's and Woolworth's. She also volunteered for Al-Anon.
In 1970, they moved to North Platte, where they lived until 1996, when Mr. Starmer needed to move into a nursing home in Central City. He died on Sept. 9, 1997. Mrs. Starmer moved to Clarks in June 1996, and then into Long Term Care in 2000.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening, rodeos and horse races. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Maurice Lindgreen of Clarks; three grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Donald; and two sisters, Wylma Cantral and Thelma Harris.
Joseph Camp
OMAHA -- Joseph D. Camp, 87, of Omaha, formerly of Albion, died Monday, June 18, 2001 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion. The Rev. Larry Sydow will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Petersburg.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Dorothy DeMartini
ALLIANCE -- Dorothy DeMartini, 79, of Alliance died Friday, March 30, 2001, at Alliance.
Memorial services took place on April 14 in Alliance. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Grand Island cemetery in Grand Island. The Rev. Jack Rademacher will officiate.
Bates-Gould Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Pauline DeSoe
86, Retired Clerk
OMAHA -- Pauline (Stoeger) DeSoe, 86, of Omaha died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at her home.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Omaha Christian Center in Omaha. The Rev. Tom Backer will officiate. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Cairo cemetery in Cairo.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Boyd E. Braman Mortuary in Omaha.
Mrs. DeSoe was born on Jan. 12, 1915, in Cairo.
She was a member of the Royal Neighbors Lodge Camp No. 825.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, James R. and Debbie of Reno, Nev., and Steve and Cheryl of Omaha; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; two daughters, Phyllis Noble and Sarah Rich; one son-in-law, Donald Rich; and three brothers, Ted, Raymond and Leonard Stoeger.
Viva Lindquist
SEWARD -- Viva A. Lindquist, 82, of Seward, formerly of Central City, died Monday, June 18, 2001, at Memorial Hospital in Seward.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Wood-Zabka Funeral Home in Seward. The Rev. Kelly Karges will officiate. Burial will be in the Hordville cemetery in Hordville.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Wood-Zabka Funeral Home in Seward and one hour prior to service time.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice or to the family.
Mrs. Lindquist was born on Jan. 30, 1919, on a farm near Goehner to Charles and Myrtle (Frank) Luce.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Central City.
She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, playing bingo and the organ. She enjoyed her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandson the most.
Survivors include her husband, Morris Lindquist of Seward; one son and daughter-in-law, Eldon and Nancy of Seward; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Shorty Foulk of York and Lyla and Bill Spencer of Osceola; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Elvin and Thelma Luce of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Glenn and Edna Luce of Kearney; one sister, Edith Dombrose of Placerville, Calif.; and one sister-in-law, Roberta DeWoody of San Diego, Calif.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister and one grandson.
