Jean Springer
STROMSBURG -- Jean R. Springer, 65, of Stromsburg died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at BryanLGH East Medical Center in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Stromsburg with Rev. Lester Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Blue Ridge cemetery in Gresham.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg.
Mrs. Springer was born Sept. 17, 1935, in Alliance and later was adopted by Raymond and Vernal (Bristle) Bond of rural Stromsburg. She attended District 69 Hackberry Country School between Stromsburg and Gresham and attended Stromsburg High School.
She married
Dale Fredrickson, and later married
Gilbert Springer.
She cleaned houses, worked at Hazel's Coffee Shop and Gary Hullinger's cattle farm. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Stromsburg and sang in the choir.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and Wayne Richards of North Platte and Lana and Roger Gannaway of Stromsburg; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Max Fredrickson of Lincoln and Gregory and Julie Springer of Adams; one brother, Maurice Wilcholm of Clovis, N.M.; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Florence Wilder
84, Retired Business Owner
GROVER, Colo. -- Florence E. Wilder, 84, of Grover, Colo., died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at the North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, Colo., of a massive stroke.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Kibbey Fishburn Funeral Home in Loveland, Colo., with the Rev. Terilyn Russ officiating. Burial will be in Loveland Burial Park in Loveland.
Mrs. Wilder was born Feb. 21, 1917, in Grand Island to Julius R. and Hildageard (Werner) Joehnck. She attended public schools in Grand Island and graduated from cosmetology school. She owned and operated a beauty salon for several years.
She married
Virgil Oliver. During World War II, Mr. Oliver went into the service as an Army officer and was assigned to various bases in the southern United States. The couple lived in Fort Ord, Calif., where Mr. Oliver died in a horseback riding accident.
She married
Arden K. Wilder on Oct. 3, 1942, in Kimball. The couple owned and operated a livery business, where she operated the restaurant, guided tours and prepared special events. She also assisted in the operation of their farm and dairy in Loveland during the winter months. The couple sold their business in Estes Park in 1963. The family then became involved in showing and training Arabian horses.
Mrs. Wilder enjoyed being a seamstress. She tailored riding clothes, side saddle and Arabian costumes for her daughter, Judy, who did most of the showing, riding and training.
She was employed by Hewlett Packard in Loveland, retiring in 1980. The family then moved to Grover, Colo., in 1996.
Survivors include her husband, Arden; one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and David Wilson of Grover, Colo.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Virgil Oliver, and one brother, Glen Joehnck.
Wayne Holoch
Wayne Roy Holoch, 78, of Grand Island died Saturday, June 9, 2001 in Grand Island.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kleine Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Reich officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge cemetery near McCool Junction.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Robert Johnstone
Robert James Johnstone, 83, of Grand Island, died Sunday, June 10, 2001 at Wedgewood Care Center.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Reuben Paulsen
Reuben C. Paulsen, 90, of Grand Island died Friday, June 8, 2001 at the Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the Rev. John D. Russell officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Mr. Paulsen was born July 25, 1910 to Paul C. and Anna (Lassen) Paulsen in Howard County, near Elba. He attended District 29 School in Howard County and later started farming with his father.
In 1966 he moved to Grand Island and began working at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant where he worked until 1972. He then did carpentry work until his retirement.

Edna Wiese in Grand Island
He enjoyed woodworking, baseball and fishing and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the Platte-Duetsch and the Eagles Club.
Survivors include a stepson and his wife, Robert and Joan Wiese of Grand Island; three grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his wife and two sisters, Edna Christensen Boldt and Agnes Nielsen.
Esther Wegenast
Esther Wegenast, 72, of Grand Island died Saturday, June 9, 2001 at her home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Messiah Lutheran Church in Grand Island with the Rev. Jack Eske officiating. Burial will be in the Glenvil cemetery in Glenvil. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home, with the family receiving visitors from 6 to 9 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to Messiah Lutheran Church, Gideons or the donor's choice.
Mrs. Wegenast was born Aug. 23, 1928 to George and Martha Dockter near Kenel, S.D. on the Standing Rock Reservation. She graduated from high school in McLaughlin, S.D, and the Alliance Nursing School. She also studied music, art and writing.
In 1952 she married
Clarence Wegenast in Lae, New Guinea, where they served for 12 years as missionaries and teachers for the American Lutheran Church at Lae and Madang.
After returning to the United States in 1964, the couple lived in North Dakota, Hastings, Alliance, Scribner and Grand Island.
She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, a choir director and oil painter. She authored nine books, including an account of her 10-year struggle with cancer.
Survivors include her husband of Grand Island; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Timothy Wegenast of El Dorado, Kan., and Steve and Sarah Wegenast of Grand Island; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanette and Kirk Romine of Lincoln, Lisa and Greg Carter of Alliance and Stephanie and Scott Kurcz of Omaha; 12 grandchildren; two brothers, Rueben Dockter of Seattle and Almart Dockter of Pomona, Calif.; and two sisters, Wilma Parker of Fall City, Wash., and Lorraine Fry of Kirkland, Wash.
'Alex' Alexander
ST. PAUL -- Franklin "Alex" Alexander, 91, of St. Paul died Saturday, June 9, 2001 at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul with Rev. Kenneth Christensen officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood cemetery in St. Paul. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Paul EMT unit or the donor's choice.
Mr. Alexander was born Oct. 29, 1909 to William and Marie Alexander in Kearney. He grew up and attended school in St. Paul and graduated from St. Paul High School in 1928.
On Feb. 21, 1934 he married
Alta Hatfiled. The couple lived on a farm north of Wolbach. In 1948 they moved to St. Paul where he worked as a parts man at International Harvester. He later worked for International Harvester in Palmer until he retired.
He was a member of St. Paul Masonic Lodge 82 AF & AM.
Survivors include several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
