BURWELL -- Helen Lathrop, 86, of Burwell, died Friday, June 8, 2001, at the Rose Lane Home in Loup City.
Services are pending with Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.
Leo Wolf
NORTH LOUP -- Leo Wolf, 71, of North Loup died Friday, June 8, 2001, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Funeral services are pending with Ord Memorial Chapel.
Agnes Stittsworth
KNOXVILLE, Iowa -- Agnes Stittsworth, 89, of Knoxville died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at Knoxville Area Community Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Knoxvillle with the Rev. Mark Spring officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
Visitation is from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church. A rosary will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at the church with a 6:30 p.m. scripture service.

Mrs. Stittsworth was born on May 20, 1912, in Knoxville to William and May (Stickle) Wren. She was raised in Knoxville and graduated with the class of 1930. She attended Iowa State Teacher's College and then taught for two semesters. She then enrolled in A.I.B., and after graduation she worked as a secretary.
She married
Tom Stittsworth in Charleston, S.C., on Sept. 27, 1943. They first lived in Knoxville, then moved to Des Moines. They also lived in Excelsior Springs, Mo.; Grand Island; and Sioux Falls, S.D., before returning to Des Moines. She retired from the Housing and Urban Development office in Des Moines after 20 years of service.
She loved music, had taught piano in Excelsior Springs and was very active in the St. Anthony choir. She also served as eucharistic minister for many years. In more recent years she enjoyed traveling to many different places with friends.
She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, the Altar Society and Rosary Society and was a 60-year member of the Iowa Cappa Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Arch and Glenda Stittsworth of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1983; two sisters, Bernice Conway and Florence Ewart; and one brother, Tom Wren.
George Brown
73, Retired U.S. Navy
George L. "Mouse" Brown, 73, of the Grand Island Veterans Home died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Dennis Rock will officiate. The U.S. Navy Honor Guard will perform military rites.
Memorials are suggested to the Grand Island Veterans Home.

Mr. Brown was born March 9, 1928, to William Lloyd and Mary Esther (Oliver) Brown at Alma. As a young boy, he moved with his parents to Havelock near Lincoln. He was a small man and was given the nickname "Mouse."
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on his 18th birthday and spent 22 1/2 years in the service. He retired in Lincoln and worked at the University of Nebraska Lincoln coliseum as sports equipment manager working under Bob Devaney, Joe Cipriano and Tom Osborne.
He loved Nebraska University sports, especially football, baseball and basketball. He also enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson as a young man and fishing. After losing his leg, he moved to the Grand Island Veterans Home where he enjoyed riding his rascal scooter and fishing.
Survivors include two sisters and brothers-in-law, Bonnie and Paul Kelly of Kirkland, Wash., and Rose and Frank Notter of Leavenworth, Kan.; one brother and sister-in-law, John and JoAnn Brown of Lincoln; and a special caregiver, Clair Munyan of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Brown and a sister, Betty Wilson.
Merritt Fox
Merritt B. Fox, 77, of Grand Island died Friday June 15, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Fox requested no funeral services. His body was cremated.
Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Lung Association.
Mr. Fox was born on Aug. 14, 1923, to Clarence and Gladys (Boyd) Fox in Dewey, Okla. He grew up in Pitcher, Okla. He served his country in World War II in the Army Airborne Division from 1940 to 1945.
He married
Charlotte Kelso on June 8, 1945, in Grand Island. They moved to Ravenna where he owned and operated the Fox Chevrolet car dealership for 20 years. They moved to Grand Island in 1986 where he worked for the Grand Island School District. He was a past member of the Masonic Order in Ravenna.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Gary Reiter of Ravenna; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard B. and Peggy Fox of Grand Island and Chris A. Fox of Grand Island; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Wanda Buckert of Boise, Idaho and one brother, James Fox of Baxter Springs, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by one infant son, one sister and two brothers.
Forrest Houser
70, Agricultural salesman
Forrest H. Houser, 70, of Grand Island died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Leo's Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday with family greeting friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Houser was born on Feb. 4, 1931, in Griswold, Iowa, to Lyle and Marie (McCormick) Houser. He grew up and attended school in Griswold, graduating from high school in 1950. He attended the University of Iowa from 1951 to 1956 and played on the football team. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958.
He married
Joann Cartano on Nov. 12, 1959, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They lived in Cedar Rapids until moving to Grand Island in 1973. He sold seed corn for Trojan Seed and later worked for Lester-Butler selling agricultural buildings. He semi-retired in 1999, but still maintained an office out of his home.
He enjoyed horses, fishing and caring for his yard.
He was a member of the Hall County Sheriff's Posse and the Saddle Club where he served on the Board of Directors. He was also involved with the inception of Husker Harvest Days.
Survivors include his wife; one son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Kathy Houser of Grand Island; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and David Dozler of Albion and Sheila and Leni Zealand of Kennard; three grandchildren and three brothers, Gerald Houser and Ted Houser of Griswold, Iowa and Howard Houser of Whittier, Calif.
Eileen Stokes
V. Lee Stokes
LOUP CITY -- Memorial services for Eileen and V. Lee Stokes will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Evergreen cemetery in Loup City. The Rev. Reginald A. Urban will officiate.
Mrs. Stokes died July 19, 2000. Mr. Stokes died Nov. 19, 1996. Both were cremated.
Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mrs. Stokes was born Jan. 19, 1921, at Loup City to Anthony and Victoria (John) Stokes. She grew up and attended school in the Loup City area.
Mr. Stokes was born Sept. 10, 1921, at Allen, Okla. He grew up and attended school in the Allen area.
The couple was married
Dec. 2, 1944, in California.
Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Stokes of Henderson, Nevada; Jackie Fultz of Sarasota, Fla., and Afena Walker of Columbus, Ind.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
