William Janda
ORD -- William Janda, 84, of Ord died Saturday, June 17, 2001, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services are pending with Ord Memorial Chapel in Ord.
Barbara Papiernik
ORD -- Barbara Papiernik, 92, of Ord died Friday, June 15, 2001, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. The Rev. Bob Rooney will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Ord Township Library or the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.
Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Papiernik was born on Nov. 10, 1908, to Bolish and Martha (Zulkoski) Suminski northwest of Ord in Valley County. She was raised in northwest Valley County and attended rural Valley County schools.
She married
Steve Papiernik on Oct. 19, 1926. The couple moved to a farm west of Ord where they lived for 16 years. They continued to farm North of Ord until 1965 when they moved into the town of Ord. Mr. Papiernik died on Jan. 18, 1999.
She was a member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and Altar Society. She enjoyed doing ceramics, embroidering and cooking.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Don and Janet Papiernik of Ord; two daughters and sons-in-law, Evelyn and Adrian Kusek of Burwell and Elva and Martin Shonka of Schuyler; nine grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gertrude Durand of Ord and Martha Janus of Ord and one brother, Bernard Suminski of Gresham, Ore.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one great-grandson and three brothers, Dominic, Carl and Leonard Suminski.
Floyd Riblett
DONIPHAN -- Floyd B. 'Shorty' Riblett, 67, of rural Doniphan died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate. Burial will be at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Riblett was born on Oct. 4, 1933, in Gresham to Olin and Mae Belle (Wright) Riblett. He grew up and received his education in Central City.
He married
Donna Funkhouser on Sept. 23, 1949, in Aurora. He did construction work in Nebraska and Iowa. He was then employed at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant.
The couple then moved to Kearney, and for 11 years, he was employed as a foreman by the Kearney Concrete and Block Company. He then returned to work at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant as a line supervisor.
He then owned and operated Floy'd Trailer Sales until his retirement in 1999.
His hobbies included taking care of his yard, caring for horses and attending the horse races.
He was a member of the Eagles Club and the Saddle Club.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Mary Riblett of Glenvil and Ron Riblett of Grand Island; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barb and Craig Mierau of Grand Island and Ramona and Michael Smithson of Hastings; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Irvin Riblett of Marquette and John Riblett of Washington state; three sisters, Jean Stueben and Lela Nelson, both of Colorado and Lola Riblett of Phoenix, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1985; one grandson, Benjamin Smithson and four brothers, Doyn Riblett, Glen Riblett, Olin Riblett and Lyle Riblett.
Eugene Ochsner
SUTTON -- Eugene Ochsner, 88, of Sutton died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at the Fairview Manor in Fairmont.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Hope Reformed Church in Sutton. The Rev. Warren Embree will officiate. Burial will be in the Sutton cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at Kohler Mortuary in Sutton.
Memorials are suggested to the Hope Reformed Church or to the family.

Mr. Ochsner was born on Sept. 20, 1912, in Anajew, Ukraine, Russia to Jakob and Clara (Irmschler) Ochsner. His family escaped the Russia Revolution to Switzerland in 1920. He received his formal education in Switzerland. In 1921, two of his brothers came to America. After they had been here awhile, they wanted the rest of the family to come. So in December 1927, his family moved to America, arriving in Quinn, S.D., on Jan. 8, 1928, where they started to farm. In 1933 the family moved to Isabel, S.D., and began to farm.
He married
Tillie Ackerman on Sept. 28, 1939, in Isabel, S.D. They made their home on a farm north of Isabel. In 1944 they moved to Sutton where he farmed for Dr. Nuss for about three years, then worked at the grain elevator for two years. In 1950 he began working as an inspector at the Naval Ammunition Depot near Clay Center, later transferring to the Grand Island Ordnance plant in Grand Island.
He retired in 1972 due to health reasons. After he retired, he did small carpentry jobs and made things such as furniture and toys for his family and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene and Paul Martin of Dallas, Texas and Barbara and Gayle Verbeck of Ogallala; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Jean Ochsner of Alda, Ervin and Nadine Ochsner of Geneva and LeRoy and Pat Ochsner of McCool Junction; 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucia Lorensen and an infant sister who died in Russia and four brothers, Frederick, Victor, Ervin and Arnold.
Merle Luft
Merle D. Luft, 79, of Grand Island died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at Park Place Nursing Home.
Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Evelyn Fredrick
ASHTON -- Evelyn E. Fredrick, 74, of Ashton, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at the Howard County Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ashton. The Rev. Larry Coulter will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service.
Peters Funeral Home in Loup City is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mrs. Fredrick was born on Nov. 5, 1926, on the family farm north of Ashton to John and Anna (Garvel) Fredrick. She attended Sherman County rural schools and grew up there.
She moved to Omaha in the early 1940s where she worked at Kellogg's Cereal Co., Kitty Clover and several car dealerships. She also worked as a waitress at Eli Caniglia's Venice Inn in Omaha.
She married
Charles Totzke on Oct. 20, 1979, at Omaha. In the early 1980s, she retired to Ashton to care for her parents and worked at the Rose Lane Home in Loup City. She moved to the Rose Lane Home in April 2001.
She enjoyed gardening, flowers, canning and crossword puzzles.
She was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church and its Council of Catholic Women and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 108 of Ashton.
Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Ann Sanders of South San Francisco, Calif.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gilbert and Jan Fredrick of Omaha and Wilfred "Fritz" and Marie Fredrick of Ashton; two sisters and brother-in-law, Angela Juhas of Omaha and LeeAnn and Clarence Roberts of Tacoma, Wash.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Aloysius Fredrick; and one sister, Maria Fredrick.
