Joseph Happ
GREELEY -- Joeseph J. Happ, 88, of Greeley, died Monday, June 4, 2001, at his home west of Greeley.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Greeley Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Gerald Carlson will officiate. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday with a rosary at 7 p.m. at the church.
T.J. Finn and Sons Mortuary in Greeley is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Happ was born April 25, 1913, at Lindsay to Edward J. and Dorothy (Albracht) Happ. He was raised in Lindsay and was educated at the Holy Family Convent there. He moved with his family to Greeley at age 17.
He married
Ethel Purdy on Feb. 14, 1942, in Greeley. He lived his entire adult life farming west of Greeley.
He was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish in Greeley, was on the church council, a member of the Knights of Columbus and of the National Farmers Organization. He was a rural school board member of District 54 for 27 years.
Survivors include his wife; seven sons and daughters-in-law, James and Peggy Happ, Jerry Happ, Joe and Karen Happ, Peter Happ and Paul Happ, all of Greeley, Larry Happ of Ericson and Ted Happ of Littleton, Colo.; seven daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and Erin Woltman of Grand Island, Jeanne Happ of Phoenix, Ariz., Rosie and Howard Leino of Morrison, Colo., Terry and John Burke of Alliance, Judy and Jeff Maller of Encinitas, Calif., Diane and Tom Howeth of Omaha and Mary and Matt Glesinger of Spalding; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Emil Labenz of Spalding, Rose and John Koenig of Primrose and Anne and Fred Brannen of Bellevue; 25 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Marilyn Happ Carper; three brothers, Tony, Bill and Syl Happ; and one sister, Sister M. Jarlath.
Pauline Wiley
PAGE -- Pauline Wiley, 83, of Page, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001 in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Page United Methodist Church. The Rev. Costa de Oliveira will officiate. Burial will be in the Orchard Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill.
Mrs. Wiley was born Aug. 18, 1917, at Orchard to Paul and Clara (Aaberg) Schwager. She graduated from Royal High School.
She married
Marvin Wiley on June 30, 1989.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Gary Meyer of Lincoln, Judy and Don Harrie of Grand Island and Jan and Stan Poff of Kearney; two sons, Jerry of Fairway, Kan., and Jim of Lincoln; one sister, Leona Wells of Brunswick; three brothers, Robert Schwager of Orchard, Swaine Schwager of Hereford, Texas, and Mervin Schwager of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters and one grandson.
Jack Jensen
68, Retired Manager
ROSELAND -- Jack D. Jensen, 68, of Roseland died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Hastings with the Dr. Carl Utley and Rev. Matt Nieman officiating. Burial will be in Parkview cemetery in Hastings.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings and one hour prior to service time Friday at the church.
Mr. Jensen was born May 5, 1933, in Nora to John and Mamie (Kotas) Jensen. He attended Nora Elementary School and graduated from Nelson High School in 1950.
On Sept. 21, 1952, he married
Floy Whiteley. He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956 and was stationed in Baltimore, Md. He moved to Holstein in 1956, where he was manager of Farmers Union Co-op Elevator. In 1961, he moved to Roseland, where he was part-owner and manager of Mid Rivers Grain Co., retiring in 1981.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, serving as deacon. He was also on the board of directors at City National Bank for 20 years, president of Hastings Grain Exchange and served on the Holstein school board, Roseland town board and worked with the youth baseball program in Roseland.
Survivors include his wife; son, Kevin Jensen of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter, Kelly Barnett of Hastings; one grandchild; and one sister, Margaret Williams of Nora.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Jensen; and one sister, Ruby Hawthorn.
Roberta Schneidereit
BREWSTER -- Roberta Schneidereit, 66, of Brewster died Sunday, June 3, 2001, as the result of a plane crash in Colorado.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Brewster Gymnasium in Brewster with the Rev. Robert Strawn officiating. Burial will be in the German Valley cemetery north of Brewster.
A memorial register book can be signed by friends and family from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Memorials are suggested to the Brewster Community Center, St. John's Lutheran Church or Scholarship for Parochial School Teachers.
Mrs. Schneidereit was born March 7, 1935, at Lexington to Ernest and Elizabeth Neben. She attended the First Lutheran Day School from 1941 to 1949 and graduated from Lexington High School in 1953. After graduation, she attended Concordia Teacher's College at Seward from 1953 to 1954. Her teaching consisted of two years, where she taught at St. John's Lutheran School from 1954 to 1956. During the summers of 1954 and 1955, she attended Kearney State Teacher's College.
On June 3, 1956, she married
Carl Schneidereit at First Lutheran Church in Buffalo, a community north of Lexington.
Survivors include her husband; son, Ivan of Brewster; five daughters and sons-in-law, Reniece and Joel Shult of Nicollet, Minn., Janine and Joe Roye of Alford, Fla., Brenda and Daryl Oster of Crystal River, Fla., Karma Schneidereit of Omaha and Clarinda and Bill Marty of Overland Park, Kan.; and two grandchildren.
Her brother and sister-in-law, Lester and Jan Neben, were also killed in the crash.
She was preceded in death by a stillborn child.
Evelyn Vech
ERICSON -- Evelyn J. Vech, 64, of Ericson died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at her home.
Services were held June 2 at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend. The Revs. James Murphy and Tom Sellentin officiated. Burial was in the Killian cemetery in Morse Bluff.
Memorials are suggested to St. Theresa Catholic Church, St. Charles Catholic Church or the University Cancer Research at the Medical Center in Omaha.
Hitchcock Funeral Home of Burwell and Moser Memorial Chapel of Fremont were in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Vech was born Oct. 19. 1936, in Fremont to Edward and Julia (Pacas) Nesladek. The family lived on a farm near North Bend. She received her education in rural schools near North Bend, graduating from North Bend Central in 1953. While in school she excelled in music as a musician, singer and piano player. She continued her education at Midland College in Fremont. She taught at rural schools in Dodge County.
She married
Leonard J. Vech on August 21, 1956. They were married
for 38 years. The couple lived on the same farm Mr. Vech grew up on near Cedar Bluffs, and also ranched in Ericson, spending weekends and summers traveling between the farm and ranch. While living in Saunders County, she was a CCD teacher, 4-H leader and active in summer Bible camps. In 1972, they moved to Ericson, where they continued to farm and ranch until Mr. Vech's death on March 1, 1995.
She was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Ericson, where she was active in the Altar Society and played organ for 25 years. She also did church work and volunteer work, helping with music programs in the church and at Ericson Grade School.
She enjoyed baking, making kolaches, working on the computer and doing family genealogy. She also enjoyed to sew and spend time with her family.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara Ann and Bryan Anderson of Cedar Bluffs, Sharon Kay and Robert Swett of Ericson and Lois Marie and Randy Peterson of Rapid City, S.D.; six grandchildren; and one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Janice Nesladek of North Bend.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Janet Neben
LEXINGTON -- Janet J. Neben, 66, of Lexington died Sunday, June 3, 2001, as a result of an airplane accident near Lyons, Colo.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Lutheran Church at Buffalo, Neb., with the Rev. Edwin Cook officiating. Burial will be in the Cozad Cemetery.
Signing of a memorial book will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.
Memorials are suggested to the Christian and Missionary Alliance, the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Neben was born on June 7, 1934, at Cozad to James W. and Nellie (Turner) Hart. She attended school in Omaha and graduated from Benson High School in 1952.
She married
Paul Garnette in 1953. She attended secretarial school, beauty college and was a licensed real estate agent in Nebraska.
She married
Lester E. Neben on July 24, 1999, at the First Lutheran Church at Buffalo. They were very active in the Nebraska chapter of the International Flying Farmers, where she was currently serving as queen of the organization. They honeymooned in Branson, Mo., during a convention of the Flying Farmers. In the late 1990s, she went to India to do missionary work, and last November, the couple took a trip to China.
She kept busy over the years with many church and community organizations. Before her marriage to Neben, she was active in her community's Council for Prevention of Alcohol Abuse and helped launch alcohol-free post-prom parties there. She served as an adult leader for Girl Scouts and Brownies and was active in her Extension Club and church choir. She was an officer on the Altar Guild at First Lutheran Church at Buffalo and participated in Lexington Christian Women's activities.
She loved to travel, help with the farming operation and was learning to fly.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, James P. and Kimberly Garnette of Wilmington, N.C.; three stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, Alan and Karen Neben of Lexington, Daniel and Sarah Neben of Bertrand and Scott Neben of Pleasanton; four daughters and sons-in-law, Leigh Ann and Bernie Holtorf of Central City, Terri and Tim Zeleski of Grand Island, Sandra Garnette of Kansas City, Mo., and Lorri and James Rogers Jr. of Grand Island; one stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Debra and Robert Rittgarn of Lexington; one brother and sister-in-law, Stanley and Elsie Hart of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Norma J. Hart of Phoenix, Ariz.; 25 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Lester, also died as a result of the airplane accident.
She was preceded in death an infant brother, LeDale Hart.
