Lester Neben
LEXINGTON -- Lester E. Neben, 67, of Lexington died Sunday, June 3, 2001, as a result of an airplane accident near Lyons, Colo.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Lutheran Church in Buffalo, Neb., with the Rev. Edwin Cook officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo First Lutheran Church cemetery at Buffalo.
Signing of a memorial book will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.
Memorials are suggested to the Christian and Missionary Alliance, the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Neben was born on July 10, 1933, at Lexington to Ernest and Elizabeth (Schmidt) Neben. He attended the Parochial Lutheran School at Buffalo and graduated from Lexington High School in 1951.
He married
Twila Knoedler on March 15, 1949, at First Lutheran Church at Buffalo. She died on March 26, 1998. He married
Janet J. Hart on July 24, 1999.
He was an airplane pilot for 37 years. He used his flying to help in his farming/ranching operation. At the time of his death, he was still very active in the Nebraska Chapter of the International Flying Farmers Association, where he had held all offices in the organization.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church at Buffalo and a member of AirLifeLine, an organization that provides transportation to medical facilities for those in need of treatment without the means for travel.
He enjoyed farming, his family and flying.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Alan and Karen Neben of Johnson Lake, Daniel and Sarah Neben of Bertrand and Scott Neben of Pleasanton; one stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, James P. and Kimberly Garnette of Wilmington, N.C.; one daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Robert Rittgarn of Lexington; four stepdaughters and stepsons-in-law, Leigh Ann and Bernie Holtorf of Central City, Terri L. and Tim Zeleski of Grand Island, Sandra Kay Garnette of Kansas City, Mo., and Lorri J. and James Rogers Jr. of Grand Island; one brother and sister-in-law, John and Joyce Neben of Brewster; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and Frank Mintken of Longmont, Colo., and Gertrude and Ron Hoffman of Norfolk; one brother-in-law, Carl Schneidereit of Brewster; 25 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
His wife, Janet, and sister, Roberta Schneidereit, also died a result of the airplane accident.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Twila.
Manuel Kane
71, Laborer
Manuel L. Kane, 71, of Grand Island, formally of Omaha, died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at All Faiths Chapel at the Grand Island Veterans Home with the Rev. Gary Bennett officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island City cemetery with military rites and honor guard from Fort Riley, Kan.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mr. Kane was born April 3, 1930, at Grand Island to Paul and Maxine (Compton) Kane. He grew up and was educated in Grand Island. He served in the Korean War from August 1951 to July 1953.
On Oct. 3, 1953, he married
Joan L. Specht. The couple lived in Grand Island before moving to Omaha in 1969. He worked as a laborer at various jobs. Mrs. Kane died in August 1991. Mr. Kane remained in Omaha until moving to the Grand Island Veterans Home one year ago.
He was a member of the Midwestern Baptist Church in Omaha and the American Legion.
He coached volleyball and softball, enjoyed making houses out of popsicle sticks, working on jigsaw puzzles, collecting stamps, bears and matchbox cars. He also enjoyed spending time with family.
Survivors include two sons, Randy and Clifford, both of Omaha; two daughters and son-in-law, Vicky and Gerald Thompson and Renae Kane, all of Omaha; one brother, Romaine of Grand Island; and one sister, Peggy Humbert of Canton, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Richard and Terry.
Opal Stahlnecker
97, Homemaker
Opal G. Stahlnecker, 97, of Grand Island died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard M. Bacon officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Grand Generation Center's band.
Mrs. Stahlnecker was born on March 11, 1904, at Grand Island to Frank and Cleo (Kolb) Gross. She grew up and received her education in Grand Island.
She married
Devern Stahlnecker on Feb. 11, 1922, in Merrick County. The couple lived in Grand Island, where she was a homemaker and mother. She also loved to sew and did alterations for Schweser's for five years. Mr. Stahlnecker died in 1966. Mrs. Stahlnecker continued to live in Grand Island.
She attended the First Christian Church and was a member of the Grand Generation Center band and the Grand Island Senior Citizens.
She enjoyed dancing.
Survivors include her son, Robert "Bob" of Grand Island; one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Lewis Cole of Grand Island; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Donald; three sisters, Goldie Stahlnecker, Ruby Pickard and Garnet Broon; and two brothers, Earl and Homer Gross.
Ruby Carlson
CEDAR RAPIDS -- Ruby M. Carlson, 89, of Cedar Rapids died Monday, June 4, 2001, at the Boone County Health Center in Albion.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Jurdan Counts will officiate. Burial will be in the Main cemetery in Belgrade.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service Wednesday at Levander Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids.
Mrs. Carlson was born March 28, 1912, in Holt County to Charles and Lora Kelly Hale at Amelia. When she was 4 years old, her family moved to Cedar Rapids. She attended elementary school at Cedar Rapids, Belgrade and Primrose and graduated from Cedar Rapids High School in 1930. After graduation, she worked various jobs, including cleaning for and taking care of people.
She married
Wesley Carlson on Oct. 8, 1932, at Fullerton. They lived on a farm east of Cedar Rapids until 1966 when they moved into Cedar Rapids. After her husband's death in 1968, she worked at various jobs including cleaning, taking care of children and cooking for the Cedar Cafe. She moved to the Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward in July 2000.
Her interests included gardening, working puzzles, traveling and church. She enjoyed spending time with her family.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids, the Women's Society of Christian Service and was a member of the Gloom Chasers Extension Club for more than 60 years. She held numerous offices in these organizations.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, JoAnn and Ed Terwilleger of Burlington, Wash., and Darlene and Dennis Donnelly of Cheyenne, Wyo.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Betty Carlson of Grand Island and Charles and Martha Carlson and Roger Carlson, all of Cedar Rapids; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Darwin, in 1993; one great-grandson; three brothers, Everett, Harold and Homer Hale; and two sisters, Hazel Schoolcraft and Iva Farmer.
Joseph Happ
GREELEY -- Joseph Happ, 88, of Greeley died Monday, June 4, 2001, at his home southwest of Greeley.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley with the Rev. Gerald Carlson officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart cemetery at Greeley.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday with a 7 p.m. rosary at the church.

Darlene Limbaugh
BROKEN BOW -- Darlene J. Limbaugh, 78, of Broken Bow died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow.
Private family graveside services will be Friday at the Broken Bow cemetery with the Rev. Gene Goben officiating.
Memorials are suggested to the Prairie Pioneer Center.

Mrs. Limbaugh was born March 3, 1923, in Boone County to Guy Z. and Edna (Darling) Quiter. She grew up in Boone County, graduating from Albion High School in 1942.
She married
Thomas Limbaugh on Sept. 24, 1942, in West Point. The couple lived and worked in Omaha before moving to Broken Bow in 1950. She worked at the Custer County Sheriff's Department for eight years, retiring in 1981. On Sept. 1, 2000, the couple moved to Liberty Square in Broken Bow.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Broken Bow.
She enjoyed gardening and sewing.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and David Thompson of Broken Bow; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
