Naomi Mick
AURORA -- Naomi L. Mick, 77, of Aurora died Monday, June 18, 2001, at BryanLGH East in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Higby Mortuary Chapel in Aurora. The Rev. George E. Damm will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
Mrs. Mick was born July 13, 1923, in Norman, Okla., to Charles Ralph and Lottie (Button) Adams. She graduated from Aurora High School in 1940.
On Feb. 11, 1945, she married
Arnold Mick. She was a member of the Hamilton Merrick County ARC, where she served as president and treasurer.
Survivors include her husband; eight daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Walter McConnell of Aurora, Carmen Chandler of Omaha, Sharon and Tom Wrightson of Fremont, Regina Mick and special friend, Gary Jensen of Aurora, Marilyn and Jerry Wolff of Caldwell, Idaho, Lori and Fred Hofmann of Sutton, Bonnie and Vince Henzel of Lincoln and Sandra and Roy Pokorny of Katy, Texas; one son, Thomas Mick of Beatrice; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert K. Mick.
Raymond Owens
83, retired conductor
NORTH PLATTE -- Raymond L. Owens, 83, of North Platte died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at his home.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the First Christian Church in North Platte. The Rev. Steven Jergensen will officiate. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Odean Colonial Chapel in North Platte.
Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church.
Mr. Owens was born Feb. 17, 1918, at Lincoln to Vern and Minnie Iva (Wood) Owens. He grew up in Lincoln and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1934.
He married
June D. Hawkins on May 17, 1936, in Lincoln. They lived in Lincoln before moving to Grand Island in 1941 where he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. He retired as a conductor in 1979.
Mr. Owens was a member of the First Christian Church, B.P.O. Elks No. 985, Eagles Aeries No. 2839, Union Pacific Old Timers, Ashlar Lodge No. 33, AF & AM, the UTU, and Eastern Star Andrew Chapter No. 41 in Grand Island.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Tom Lacy of Baton Rouge, La.; a brother and sister-in-law, Everett and Virginia Owens of Lincoln; a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Melvin Ward of Lincoln; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Owens of Lincoln and Nellye Knight of North Platte; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald L. Owens and Raymond Lester Owens; a brother, Lyle Owens; a sister, Irene Williamson; and a grandson.
Joseph Camp
87, Retired heavy equipment operator
OMAHA -- Joseph D. Camp, 87, of Omaha, formerly of Albion, died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion. The Rev. Larry Sydow will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Petersburg with military rites conducted by American Legion Post No. 334 of Petersburg.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Mr. Camp was born May 20, 1916, to Arthur and Elizabeth (Kent) Camp in Elgin. He was baptized on May 25, 1916, at St. Boniface Church in Elgin and attended school there.
He served in World War II from Nov. 22, 1942, to Dec. 1, 1945, in the European Theater. He held rank of Tec 5 and was a member of the 18th Infantry fighting on Omaha Beach and earning meritorious medals for his conduct.
On Dec. 31, 1946, he married
Clara Hovelsrud in Madison. They lived in the Elgin-Petersburg area for many years before moving to Franklin and later to Cambridge, where they lived for 26 years. The couple retired from Frenchman Cambridge Irrigation, where he was a heavy equipment operator. After retirement they moved to Lincoln, where they lived for 18 years before moving to Albion. After Mrs. Camp died, Mr. Camp moved to Omaha.
He was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews, Elizabeth and Thomas Spellman of Omaha, Patricia and Curtiss Callahan of Culbertson, Gloria and William Day of Norfolk, Barbara and Bud Camp, Sharon and Art Linderman of Downers Grove, Ill., Terrence and Sheila Mannlein of Castle Rock, Colo., Maurice and Arlene Mannlein of Decatur, Ill., and Penny Matz of Denver.
Other than his wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Lawrence Camp; one sister, Helen Camp Beelart; and a stepnephew, Ben Camp.
Viva Lindquist
SEWARD -- Viva A. Lindquist, 82, of Seward, formerly of Central City, died Monday, June 18, 2001, at Memorial Hospital in Seward.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Wood-Zabka Funeral Home in Seward. The Rev. Kelly Karges will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in the Hordville cemetery in Hordville.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service time.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice or to the family.
Mrs. Lindquist was born on Jan. 30, 1919, on a farm near Goehner to Charles and Myrtle (Frank) Luce.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Central City.
She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, playing bingo and the organ. She enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Morris Lindquist of Seward; one son and daughter-in-law, Eldon and Nancy of Seward; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Shorty Foulk of York and Lyla and Bill Spencer of Osceola; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Elvin and Thelma Luce of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Glenn and Edna Luce of Kearney; one sister, Edith Dombrose of Placerville, Calif.; and one sister-in-law, Roberta DeWoody of San Diego.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister and one grandson.
'Lee' Starostka
80, Retired
COLUMBUS -- Essie "Lee" Starostka, 80, of Columbus died Monday, June 18, 2001, at Columbus Community Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at McKown Funeral Home Chapel in Columbus. The Rev. Timothy White will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial cemetery in Columbus.
Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. A family prayer service will be at 10:15 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, prior to the service.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Starostka was born June 14, 1921, in York to Harry A. and Essie Mable (Jones) Johnson. In 1932, she moved to Aurora and graduated from Aurora High School in 1938. She taught school in Aurora for one year.
She married
Ray Conger. After the death of Mr. Conger, she married
Arnold Hemmingsen on April 1, 1947, in Aurora. The couple lived in Aurora and Hastings and moved to Columbus in 1957.
She later married
Alfred A. Starostka on May 4, 1963, in Madison. She worked for Nebraska Electric G & T Co-op Inc. for 17 years until her retirement.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Ron Falk of Columbus; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Gayle Conger of LeMars, Iowa; one brother, Harry L. Johnson of Otis, Colo.; one sister, Helen A. Youngs of Lincoln; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Starostka on April 26, 2001; her first husband, Ray Conger; and one brother.
Joan Griesman
21, Nursing assistant
ROCHESTER, Minn. -- Joan M. (Gehring) Griesman, 21, of Rochester, Minn., formerly of Genoa, died Saturday, June 16, 2001.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Genoa. The Rev. Carl Edwards will officiate. Burial will be in Valley View cemetery in Genoa.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Genoa.
Levander Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Griesman was born March 16, 1980, at Omaha to Eugene and Carrie (Smith) Gehring. She attended Lost Creek Elementary School in Columbus. In 1990, the family moved to Genoa. She attended Genoa Elementary School and graduated from Genoa High School in 1998. She attended Southeast Community College in Lincoln.
She worked as a certified nursing assistant at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln and later at Karrington Cottages Assisted Living Facilities in Rochester.
She married
Matthew Griesman on March 9, 2001, at Rochester Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
She was a member of the Congregational Church in Genoa and was active in the youth group.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Cole of Rochester; her father of Columbus; her mother of Genoa; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Renae Gehring of Lincoln, Kara Gehring of Genoa and Sherri and Arthur Frewing of Columbus; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Brent Gehring of Genoa and Jerry and Katherine Gehring of Kansas City, Kan.; and her grandfathers, Eugene Smith of Fullerton and Walter Gehring of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Doris Smith and Grace Gehring.
