Eldon Coffey
Eldon O. Coffey, 81, of Grand Island, died Saturday, Sept. 30 at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island.
He donated his body to science. There will be no visitation or services. Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy of Grand Island; son Michael of Lincoln; and one granddaughter.
Frederick Lauerman
Frederick Joseph Lauerman, 79, of Stromsburg, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Stromsburg Baptist Church. The Rev. Duane Tweeten will officiate. Burial will be at the Stromsburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg.

Dean Claar
Dean Harold Claar, 79, of Petersburg, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Catholic Church. The Rev. Frank Baumert will officiate. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday at the Levander Funeral Home in Albion and will resume at 7 p.m. at the church with a rosary a 8 p.m. Visitation will continue at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Mr. Claar was born Feb. 21, 1921, to Lowell "Bill" and Margaret (Daniels) Claar. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Catholic Church in Petersburg. He received his education at the Boone County School District No. 18.
He married
Dorothy L. Wirges on Nov. 23, 1948 at St. John's Catholic Church. They lived in Petersburg where he operated a trucking business and worked for the Boone County Roads Department. He retired in 1985.
Mr. Claar was a lifetime member of St. John's. He served on the Petersburg Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years. His wife died on Sept. 9, 1999.
He moved to the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion on Feb. 4.
Survivors include one son, Harold of Petersburg; and three grandchildren, also of Petersburg.
He was preceded in death by his wife; two sister, Audrey "Toots" Gless; and one sister, Marge Buettner.
Merna Davis
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Merna M. Davis, 91, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Lincoln, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at Tucson.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday from at the Cameron cemetery near Grand Island. The Rev. Delvin Roper will officiate.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday with the family receiving friends from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Nov. 6 at Gollaher Chapel at Trinity United Methodist Church. The Revs. Delvin Roper and Jim Keyser will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to the Trinity United Methodist Church or Wesleyan University at Lincoln.
'Jan' Jankovitz
Janice "Jan" L. Jankovitz, 69, of Grand Island, died Wednesday, October 3, 2001, at St. Francis Skilled Care.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.
There will be no visitation. Her body was cremated.
Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Children's Home or St. Francis Oncology Unit through the St. Francis Foundation.
Cecilia Nason
Cecilia "C.C." M. Nason, 63, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001, at BryanLGH Medical Center in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Cathedral Church. The Rev. Tom Ryan will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation and a parish rosary were Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Nason was born Nov. 22, 1937, at Lexington to Juan and Concepcion (Guerrero) Cantú. She received her education in Lexington and Omaha. She spent her childhood working with family doing farm work in Nebraska, California and Michigan. She also lived in Mexico as a child, but finally settled in Grand Island.
She married
John J. Nason Sr. on April 12, 1969, in Grand Island. She worked at the Yancey Hotel, the Ordnance Plant and most recently at Hills Furniture Store.
She was a long-time member of St. Mary's Cathedral.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Jeff Ramirez and John Nason Jr., both of Lincoln and Travis Nason of Grand Island; three daughters, Vera Ramirez of Lincoln, Mia Cassell of Chandler, Ariz., and Dorothy Nason of Davis, Calif., 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elvira Ramirez of Phoenix and Julie Aken of Lincoln; and two brothers, Dana Cantú of Santa Fe Springs, Calif., and John Cantú of Oxnard, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her infant son, Mario and a brother, Richard.
Helen Preisendorf
Helen W. Preisendorf, 97, of Grand Island died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, at Tiffany Square.
Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Esperanza Moreno
WOOD RIVER -- Esperanza H. Moreno, 91, of Wood River died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River with the Rev. Paul Colling officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery in Wood River.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at the O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home in Kearney with the Rev. Tom Mullowney officiating. There will be a 7 p.m. prayer vigil.
Mrs. Moreno was born March 3, 1910, to Salvador and Martha (Cervantez) Hernandez in Mexico, where she grew up. She moved to the United States at a young age.
She married
Cecil Moreno in Wood River. She worked for several years at the turkey plant in Gibbon.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wood River.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one sister.
Harry Schamp
ORD -- Harry W. Schamp, 76, of Ord died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Cottonwood cemetery in Burwell. The Rev. Murry Johnson will officiate.
There will be no visitation. His body was cremated.
Hitchcock Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Schamp was born Feb. 8, 1925, in Garfield County to Skyler and Mae (Herron) Schamp. He entered the U.S. Army during World War II on March 8, 1943, and was discharged on Dec. 27, 1945.
He married
Orvetta Crumrine on Feb. 22, 1948, in Burwell. He farmed until Jan. 15, 1952, when he entered the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was discharged on April 30, 1954. When he returned, the couple lived in Burwell, Ord and Loup City areas while he worked heavy construction.
He retired in 1970. They moved to a farm north of Elyria in 1986. His wife died July 29, 1994. He continued to live on the farm until 1999 when he moved to Ord.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Harry J. and Ronda Schamp of Hay Springs; a daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Bill Kennedy of Scott City, Kan.; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a brother, Lawrence Schamp of Inavale; two sisters and brother-in-law, Mae and Anson Kinney of Burwell and Nellie Kruson-Schiebol of Beaver City; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Schamp of Ord and Elizabeth Gillespie of Lincoln; a daughter-in-law, Pat Schamp of Aurora; and a stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Lynn and Larry Weiner of Elyria.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a daughter, Sandra Cook; a son, Charles Schamp; two grandchildren; and nine brothers and sisters.
