U.S., Obituary Collection, 1930-Current

Ethelyn Hersh

KENESAW -- Ethelyn Hersh, 84, of Kenesaw, formerly of Berwyn and Dunning, died Sunday, July 4, 1999, at Haven Home in Kenesaw.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers in Broken Bow with the Rev. David Hansen officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary

Memorial are suggested to the Blaine County Rescue Unit.

Mrs. Hersh was born Feb. 27, 1915, on the B.J. Turney Ranch near Ansley to John Franklin and Marie (Harris) Tiff. She was a twin, with her sister, Evelyn being born first. She attended Clear Creek School and later the Gifford School near Berwyn.

She married Dean Hersh on March 3, 1933, in Kearney. The couple farmed east of Broken Bow and they cared for Mr. Hersh's parents for seven years.

In 1940, the family traded the Broken Bow farm for a ranch in the Sandhills, 20 miles north of Dunning on the North Loup River. The family moved to Coos Bay, Ore., in 1946, living there for one year. From 1953 to 1956, they lived in Milwaukie, Ore., where Mr. Hersh worked in a plywood mill. They returned to their ranch in 1956.

Mr. and Mrs. Hersh bought a home in Berwyn in 1979. They used the home in Berwyn as their winter home and the ranch home as their summer home. Mr. Hersh died on March 1, 1994.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Dunning. Mrs. Hersh, who lived in a sod home in the early years of her marriage, was on the board of directors of the Sodhouse Society, and was a member of the H.E.O. Club at Berwyn.

Mrs. Hersh taught painting classes in her home and also in Broken Bow. She painted oil pictures and watercolors and also did china painting. She also enjoyed traveling and playing cards.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Hersh of Kenesaw and Dan Hersh of Ord; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Evelyn Tiff Fortik Hall of Steamboat Springs, Colo., and Lucille Kuhlhanek of Fruita, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Royce Lynn Hersh; three brothers, Howard, Edward and Floyd Tiff; and a sister, Ruth (Tiff) Marrs.

Bonnie Pedersen

HOLDREGE -- Bonnie J. Pedersen, 52, of Holdrege died Monday, July 5, 1999, at Christian Homes in Holdrege.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in St. Paul with the Revs. Larry Lepper and Murray Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood cemetery in St. Paul.

Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Miss Pederen was born Sept. 3, 1946, at St. Paul to Einer and Pearl (Townsend) Pedersen. She received her schooling and training at Martin Luther Home in Beatrice from 1956 until 1964. She entered the Bethpage Mission in Axtell in 1972. She later moved to Bethpage McMillan Group Home in Holdrege in 1981.

Due to failing health, she entered Christian Homes in 1993, where she lived until her death.

She enjoyed music and was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege.

Survivors include a sister, Verlyn (Mrs. Dick) Johnson of Holdrege and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Robert Pedersen.

John H. Sinsel

FULLERTON -- John H. Sinsel, 52, of Bowling Green, Ky., formerly of Archer and Fullerton, died Sunday, July 4, 1999.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Fullerton. The Rev. Mary McQueen will officiate. Burial will be in the Prairie Baptist Church cemetery at Archer.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Emanuel Wadas

ORD -- Emanuel V. Wadas, 82, of Ord died Monday, July 5, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services are pending at Ord Memorial Chapel.

'Jerry' Wildman

BURWELL -- Gerald G. "Jerry" Wildman, 70, of Burwell died Saturday, July 3, 1999, at his home near Burwell.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Burwell Baptist Church in Burwell. The Rev. Paul Harder and The Rev. Bruce Lester will officiate. Burial will be in the Bartlett City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mr. Wildman was born Sept. 15, 1928, in Elwood to Edward and Margaret (Mauck) Wildman. He attended grade school in rural Elwood and graduated from Edison High School in 1946. He went into the service in 1946 with the 534th Engineer Base Survey and was medically discharged on Oct. 30, 1947.

He married Jenny J. McCain June 10, 1951, in Bartlett. They lived in Red Cloud for a a time and then they moved to a ranch near Chambers, then to Bartlett and finally Elgin.

In 1993, he retired and moved to Burwell for two years before moving to McCook in 1995. In April 1999, they moved back to Burwell.

Mr. Wildman's hobbies included hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gary of Mary Esther, Fla., and Greg of Vail, Ariz.; six daughters, Connie (Mrs. Donnie) Stryker of Sargent, Cathi Updike (Mrs. Ken) of Gillette, Wyo., Chris (Mrs. J.R.) Gutierrez of Torrington, Wyo., Cindy (Mrs. Shane) Shaw of Helena, Mont., Lori (Mrs. Curt) Wilkerson of Apple Creek, Ohio, and Lisa (Mrs. Steve) Baird of Indianapolis, Ind.; one brother, Robert Wildman; two sisters, Madeline McCoy of Arapahoe and Delta Orthman of Scotia; 23 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Irene Wunderlich

BURWELL -- Irene Clara Wunderlich, 82, of Burwell died Monday, July 5, 1999, at Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Burwell. The Rev. Bernard Berger will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood cemetery in Burwell.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at the church Thursday with a wake service at 7 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell is in charge of arrangements.

Alvin Kowalski Sr.

Alvin D. Kowalski Sr., 77, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Ryan officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Marguerite Price

Marguerite Ann Price, 88, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at Lakeview Nursing Home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home with the Rev. James Schmitt officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Holy Sepulchre cemetery in Omaha.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Miss Price was born on July 2, 1912, in Omaha to Henry and Georgia Price. She grew up in Omaha and was educated there.

She did clerical and promotional work for various telephone companies in a number of cities. She lived most of her adult life in Washington, D.C. Miss Price moved to Grand Island in 1989.

She was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church.

Survivors include three nephews, Hank Price and Jim Price, both of Grand Island, and Bill Trites of Annadale, Va.; and a niece, Susie Trach of Annadale, Va.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Helen; and a brother, Henry.
