'Bob' Bicking
BROKEN BOW -- Robert 'Bob' G. Bicking, 64, of Broken Bow died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Govier Brothers Mortuary chapel in Broken Bow. The Revs. Jim Stark and Jim Ferguson will officiate. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Newlon's Grove cemetery in Cumberland, Iowa.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.
Mr. Bicking was born Sept. 12, 1937, at Cumberland, Iowa, to Glenn A. and Gladys M. (Sorensen) Bicking. He grew up in Cumberland and graduated from high school. He worked for his father at Bicking Oil Company while growing up.
He moved to Omaha and became a certified welder. He worked for Obeco Company and later worked at Internorth, Co., where he was a welder and taught welding to troubled children. During his work in Omaha, he received two presidential achievement medals from President Reagan for his work with CETA children.
He married
Betty Waltman on July 7, 1997. The couple lived in Broken Bow. He worked part time for the street department of Broken Bow and was co-owner of B-B Welding.
He was baptized at the age of nine. He enjoyed cooking and working with young people.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Cheri Tingler of Omaha; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Debbie Bicking of Fremont, Terry and Kris Bicking of Omaha and Gary and Stephanie Bicking of Oakland; two stepsons, Allan Waltman of Ashton and John Waltman of Broken Bow; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ron, and a son, Larry.
Betty Finley
CLARKS -- Betty Jane Finley, 81, of Clarks, died Friday, December 28, 2001 at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.
Services will be Monday at the chapel of Solt Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Ralph Supernaw officiating. Burial will be in the Clarks Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Finley was born on October 25, 1920 in St. Edward to E.W. "Jerry" and Olga (Dietz) Verhaege. She grew up in St. Edward and graduated from St. Edward High School in 1939.
After graduation, she went to live in California where she worked in San Francisco at J.C. Penny and in San Lorenzo for The Caterpillar Plant.
She returned to Nebraska and married
George F. Finley on January 13, 1943 in St. Edward. Her husband worked for Union Pacific Railroad, so the couple lived in many communities including Willow Island, Richland, Gothenburg, Genoa and Albion, where Mrs. Finley worked for the Boone County Hospital. In 1975, they moved to Clarks
Mrs. Finley was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Albion. She enjoyed flowers, reading, sewing, and crocheting.
Survivors include her husband of Clarks; six sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Dee Finley of Columbus; John and Karen of Springhill, Fla., Jim and Eleanor, and Tom and Val, all of Denison, Iowa, Steve of Boston, and Chuck and Wanda of Norfolk; two daughters, Virginia Finley and Jane Finley, both of Dacono, Colo.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Virginia and Duane Brown of Phoenix and Leone Tyler of Portland, Ore.; 16 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Deane Verhaege.
'Tom' Jones
ANSELMO -- Thomas "Tom" E. Jones, 66, of rural Anselmo died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at United Methodist Church in Broken Bow. The Rev. Doug Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Ortello Valley cemetery near Anselmo.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Memorials are suggested to Anselmo Merna Rescue Unit and Anselmo Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Jones was born Jan. 14, 1935, at Nashville, Tenn., to William and Mable (Whitley) Jones. He graduated from high school in Bonham, Texas.
He married
Sandy Richards on Sept. 15, 1972. He worked as operations manager for Parker Drilling Company in oil and gas exploration. He traveled worldwide with Parker Drilling, retiring in 1994 after 25 years. After his retirement, the couple moved to the family farm near Anselmo.
He was a member of United Methodist Church in Anselmo and a past member of Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jennifer Jones of Washington D.C.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Susan Jones of Houston, Bobby and Kamelle Jones of Tulsa, Okla., and Dennis and Teresa Jones of Odessa, Texas; seven grandchildren; and two sisters, Doris Evans of Bonham, Texas, and Joyce Jones of Big Springs, Texas.
He was preceded in death by four brothers.
Justin Loescher
DONIPHAN -- Justin L. Loescher, 34, of Doniphan died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001.
All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Heide Roth
WOOD RIVER -- Heide Roth, 42, of Wood River died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church in Cairo. The Revs. Cloy Roth and Denton Jantzi will officiate. Burial will be in Wood River Mennonite Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at United Methodist Church.
Memorials are suggested to Wood River Mennonite Church, cancer research or to the family.

Mrs. Roth was born Feb. 23, 1959, at Hutchinson, Minn., to William and Joy (Rathman) Dibbern. She attended District 37 School north of Wood River and graduated from Wood River High School in 1977. She then graduated from Saint Francis School of Nursing in 1980 and received her bachelor's degree in nursing May 13, 2000, at Nebraska Wesleyan University.
She began her nursing career at Lutheran Hospital in Grand Island and then St. Francis Medical Center where she was a CICU nurse, department director, director of coronary radiology lab and most recently a department supervisor.
She married
Marvin L. Roth on May 30, 1981, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island.
She was a member of Wood River Mennonite Church. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Bible School, nursing, cooking, quilting and helping others.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Joshua and Caleb and a daughter, Megan, all at home; her father; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Colleen and Larry Rakes of Bartlesville, Okla., Doreen and Robert Paitz of Kearney and Carrie and Scott Loy of Wood River; and four brothers and sisters-in-law, Randy and Gloria Dibbern of Cairo, Joed and Robyn Dibbern, and David Dibbern, all of Grand Island, and Billy and Karen Dibbern of Riverdale.
She was preceded in death by her mother, an infant brother, Nathan, and her grandparents.
Cecil Sims
AURORA -- Cecil Roderick Sims, 92, of Aurora died Thursday, December 27, 2001, at Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Aurora Methodist Church. Dr. Joe Scahill will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Mr. Sims, was born October 24, 1909 to Claude and Rosa (Luthy) Sims in Phillips. He grew up on a farm between Giltner and Phillips and attended country school. He graduated from Phillips High School. He then went to work on his parent's farm.
He married
Eva Shipley on March 15, 1939, in York. They lived in Hazard for four years, then moved to a farm north of Aurora for one year and lived in York County for one year. They then moved to a farm southwest of Marquette where they lived for 40 years before moving into Aurora in 1985. Eva died on October 3, 1997.
Mr. Sims was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church. He enjoyed doing carpentry work and custom woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his wife, a brother, Melvin and two sisters, Wilma Olson and Bernice Hoffmaster.
Survivors include a brother-in-law, Ervin Shipley of California.
Theresa Wermeskerch
LINCOLN -- Theresa A. Wermeskerch, 99, of Lincoln died Friday, December 28, 2001, at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings with the Rev. Andrew Menke officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church. Further visitation will be one hour before service time on Monday. Burial will be in Parkview cemetery in Hastings.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice. Kleine Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Wermeskerch was born February 11, 1902, at Lawrence to Henry and Josephine Kimminau. She attended St. Stephen's Catholic Church School near Lawrence and worked as a "hired gal" and helped in the homes of neighbors. She cared for many people during her lifetime.
She married
John Wermeskerch on May 21, 1935, at Lawrence. The couple lived on a farm near Roseland. Later they lived in Hastings and eventually moved to the Good Samaritan Village. Shortly after John died in 1989, Theresa moved to Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln.
When her children were young, she was the cook for Catholic church school in Assumption, Nebraska. She was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church and the Altar Society.
Mrs. Wermeskerch was six weeks shy of her 100th birthday when she died.
Survivors include by one son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Bethine of Lincoln; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathryn and John Keane of Lincoln and Marlene and Ron Preissler of Fremont; twelve grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Robert; two sisters, Kathryn and Lena; and five brothers, Ben, Bruno, Ferinand, Frank, and John.
