Betty Woods
LAUREL -- Betty J. Woods, 79, of Laurel died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at United Methodist Church in Laurel. The Rev. Glen Emerl will officiate. Burial will be in Laurel cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday at Schumacher-Hasemann Funeral Home in Laurel with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Mrs. Woods was born Oct. 23, 1922, at Des Moines, Iowa, to Clarence and Esther (Finley) Moore. She attended school in Des Moines.
She married
Paul Woods on Oct. 30, 1939. The couple lived in Des Moines and Grand Island before moving to Laurel.
She was a member of United Methodist Church in Laurel.
Survivors include her husband; a son and daughter-in-law, Earl "Bud" and Terrie Woods of Des Moines; five daughters and sons-in-law, Dixie and Ralph Engelhardt of Grand Island, Judy and Daryl Wickstrom of Marschalltown, Iowa, JoAnn and Jim Schmied of Carlsbad, Calif., and Sherrie and Randy Patefield, and JoLynn and Kevin Hamilton, all of Laurel; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Jeanne Gray of Mess, Ariz., and Yvonne Scrivner of Norwalk, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by a brother.
Evelyn Hatcher
78, F.W. Woolworth employee
Evelyn L. Hatcher, 78, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Jim Johnson will officiate.
There will be no visitation. Her body was cremated.
Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mrs. Hatcher was born April 25, 1923, in Lexington to Walter and Daisy (Fletcher) Cadwalader. Her family moved to Grand Island when she was 2. She attended Grand Island Public Schools.
She married
Hugh Hatcher on July 20, 1940, in Aurora. She was employed by F.W. Woolworth Company for 28 years, working in Grand Island, Omaha and Hastings. After retiring, she returned to Grand Island.
Survivors include four sons, Donald Hatcher of Kearney, Hugh Hatcher of Salt Lake City, Wayne Hatcher of Columbus and Dale Hatcher of Grand Island; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Roy Cadwalader of Grand Island, Fred Cadwalader of Manhattan, Kan., and Bert Cadwalader of Salt Lake City; and four sisters, Blanche Kissler of Casper, Wyo., Edna Hiatt of Centralia, Wash., Lillian Gannon of Wilber and Mary A. Ewoldt of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by a son, Harold Hatcher, and a sister, Dorothy McDonald.
Dawn Stobbe
54, Nurse
Dawn K. Stobbe, 54, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001, at her home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Harold R. Kurtenbach will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation and a parish rosary were Thursday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mrs. Stobbe was born Feb. 13, 1947, in Omaha to Richard and Eleanore (Stevens) Smith. She attended school in Omaha and graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing in 1975.
She married
Rich Ryder in Omaha in 1966, and they moved to Grand Island in 1976.
She married
Rich Stobbe in 1979 in Omaha.
She was a registered psychiatric/mental health nurse at Mid Plains Center for Behavioral Service for 20 years before retiring in 1996 due to ill health.
She enjoyed music, crafts, cards, sewing and working on scrapbooks. She also enjoyed having tea parties and playing in the playhouse with her grandchildren.
She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. She had served on the Parish Council and was involved with activities at Central Catholic and Jefferson schools.
Survivors include her husband; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Rod Ryder of Yuma, Ariz., and Reggie and Keri Ryder of Lincoln; two daughters, Sarah Stobbe of Lincoln and Lindsay Stobbe of Kearney; two stepsons and their wives, Roger and Barbara Jo Stobbe of Marionville, Mo., and Greg and Maria Stobbe of Glendale, Mo.; a stepdaughter and her husband, Cyndi and Ted Young of Marionville Mo.; nine grandchildren; an adopted daughter, Shanda McClaren; a brother, Jack Smith of Omaha; and three adopted sisters, Linda Templeton, Nancy Carlson and Sherry Conner.
She was preceded in death by an infant grandson.
Esther Bergland
ELYRIA -- Esther Bergland, 89, of Elyria died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001, at Beverly Healthcare Nursing Home in Sargent.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Ord Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Bernard Berger will officiate. Burial will be in Ord Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with a rosary at 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice and Alzheimer's Association.
Mrs. Bergland was born Oct. 30, 1912, in Valley County to John and Wanda (Jablonski) Zulkoski. She was raised in Valley County and was a 1931 graduate of Ord High School. She worked at the J.C. Penney Store in Ord.
She married
Milton "Jack" Bergland on Aug. 2, 1936, in Fremont. The couple lived in California until 1968. The couple retired in Elyria. Her husband died July 25, 1977. She remained in Elyria until moving to Beverly Healthcare nursing home in March 2001.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Burwell and enjoyed playing bridge.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Davis of Pomona, Calif., and Linda Pantoja of Ontario, Calif.; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Bernie and Harry.
Ervin Blauhorn
88, World War II veteran, Farmer
CENTRAL CITY -- Ervin W. Blauhorn, 88, of Central City died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at his home.
Services will be Saturday at Archer Zion United Methodist Church near Archer. The Rev. Rich Savage will officiate. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City.
Memorials are suggested to the church and American Cancer Society.
Mr. Blauhorn was born Aug. 11, 1913, to William C. and Anna M. (Otto) Blauhorn on a farm southeast of Palmer. He attended District 58 School in Merrick County through the eighth grade.
He was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army from Dec. 1, 1941, to October 1945. He fought in the Battle of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge.
He married
Bonnie M. Scharvin on June 22, 1947, at his parents' home near Archer in a double wedding ceremony with his sister, Dorothy Blauhorn, and his wife's brother, Frank Scharvin. The couple lived and farmed near Archer. His wife died in 1997. He moved from the farm to Central City in January 2001.
He served on several boards, including District 43 School, Merrick County Weed District, Chapman and Archer Telephone Board and Merrick Foundation. He also served on several boards in the Zion United Methodist Church. He served as director of the Archer Co-op Bank and was chairman of the building committee for the Archer Community Center. He enjoyed the farm and watching crops grow, traveling, flowers and gardening, going for coffee, fishing and bird watching.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Orville and Barbara Blauhorn of Palmer; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred Scarborough of Palmer, Dorothy Scharvin of Oxford, Edna and Thomas Shull of Central City and Ina J. and Charles Giles of Broken Bow; and a sister-in-law, Helen Blauhorn of Central City.
He was preceded in death by his wife, a brother, Elmer Blauhorn, two infant sisters and three brothers-in-law.
