Agnes Browne
Agnes Browne, 84, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, at Skilled Care Unit at St. Francis.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Lutheran Church. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Browne was born Dec. 12, 1916, in Hall County to Henry and Martha (Grotz) Mohr. She attended rural school in Dannebrog.
She married
James Browne on Sept. 6, 1939, in Central City. The couple worked the family farm near Cairo. They moved to Omaha in 1940 followed by another moved to Nampa, Idaho, before moving to Grand Island in 1989.
She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruth A. McGee of Steward, Ill., and Helen McDonough of Interlaken, N.J.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Lykke of Grand Island; and a brother, Earl Mohr of Cairo.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Erma.
Florence Christensen
DANNEBROG -- Florence M. Christensen, 89, of Dannebrog died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at the Lakeview Nursing Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dannebrog. Rev. Robert Carlson Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakridge cemetery in Dannebrog.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Christensen was born Dec. 13, 1911, on a farm between Dannebrog and Nysted to Lauritz and Flora (Nielsen) Feddersen. She attended country school through the 8th grade, then Dannebrog High School where she graduated in 1928.
She married
Earl Christensen on June 16, 1937, at Rockport, Mo. The couple lived in Omaha for approximately one year before returning to Dannebrog where Mrs. Christensen remained until entering Lakeview Nursing Center on Dec. 1, 2001, due to advanced leukemia.
She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dannebrog and a 58-year member of the original Dannebrog Bridge Club. She was an avid knitter and instructed students at Sears and Miller and Paine Department Stores in Grand Island. In her later years she also conducted knitting classes in surrounding areas through Central Community College and at her home.
She also enjoyed reading, sewing and politics.
Survivors include one son and a daughter-in-law, Dustin and Jeanine Christensen of Grand Island; one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon K and Wayne Sheldon of North Loup; one sister, Marie Gdanitz of Elba; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; five brothers, Sigurd, Chris, Ernest, Vernon and Howard; and three sisters, Astrid Christensen, Thyra Toof and Grace Kunze.
Dean Fuss
BURWELL -- Dean Fuss, 81, of Burwell died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services are pending with Ord Memorial Chapel.
Margaret Legg
LOUP CITY -- Margaret Legg, 91, of Loup City died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at Rose Lane Nursing Home in Loup City.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in Loup City. The Rev. Cindy Altstadt will officiate. Cremation will follow services.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Elsie Kain
SYLMAR, Calif. -- Elsie W. (Bockman) Kain, 94, of Sylmar, Calif., formerly of Grand Island, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, at Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills, Calif.
Services will be at 11 a.m. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be in Grand Island Cemetery.
Nicole Tatlow
WASCO, Calif. -- Nicole M. Tatlow, 22, of Wasco, Calif., died Dec. 8, 2001, at her home after battling Ewing's Sarcoma for three years.
Services were held Wednesday at St. John's Catholic Church in Wasco, Calif. The Rev. John Fluetsch officiated. Burial was in Wasco Memorial Park.
Visitation was held Tuesday at Peters Funeral Home Chapel in Wasco, Calif.
Miss Tatlow was born Dec. 16, 1978, at Central City to Cortland and Deloris Tatlow. Her family moved to Wasco, Calif., when she was three. She graduated from Wasco Union High School in 1995 and was attending Bakersfield College.
She was an avid reader. Her career goal was to become an author focusing on short stories, works of fiction and children's books. She spent time volunteering for the American Cancer Society and made charitable contributions to organizations promoting human justice and equality, animal rights and cancer research.
Survivors include her parents of Wasco; two brothers and sister-in-law, Adam Tatlow of Los Angeles and James and Jennifer Tatlow of San Diego; a sister and brother-in-law, Kellie and Tony Morris of Wasco, Calif.; and grandparents, Leo and Luella Spanel of Wasco, Calif., and Patricia Walters of Farwell.
James Wood
FULDA, Minn. -- James M. Wood, 85, of Fulda, Minn., died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at his daughter's home.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Kearney.
Mr. Wood was born June 9, 1916, to Olin and Camilla (Bangs) Wood. He attended Haigler High School. He later attended Denver Bible Institute in Denver and Sterling College in Sterling, Kan. He attended Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Kan.
He married
Doris Puckett on Aug. 31, 1948, in Lincoln. He served as pastor in Chillicothe, Mo., and Flagler, Colo. The couple moved to Tura, Meghalaya, India, and then to Jorhat, Assam, India, where he and his wife served as missionaries for the American Baptist Church. When they returned to the U.S., they lived in Alliance, Kearney and Grand Island. In 1981, he retired but continued doing interim pastorate work. In March 2001, they moved to Fulda, Minn., where they lived at Maple View Estates until November 2001, when they moved to their daughter's home in rural Fulda.
He was a member of American Baptist Church. He was active on the board of the Center for Rural Affairs in Nebraska. He enjoyed fishing and golfing.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters and a son-in-law, Karen Wood of Denver and Linda and Bryan Lund of Fulda; two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Morna Wood of Chennal, India, and Bill and Pat Wood of Kearney; nine grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Alice Shaftstall of LaJunta, Colo., and Mary and Delmar Stevens of Lincoln; a brother-in-law, Arsenio Lewis of Lincoln; and two sisters-in-law, Donna Wood of California and Jewel Wood of Canon City, Colo.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and John Wood, and a sister, Ruth Lewis.
Oscar Cram
Oscar J. Cram, 94, of Grand Island, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at Tiffany Square Care Center.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate. Funeral services will be at the Highland Mortuary in Thornton, Colo., with burial in the Highland cemetery at a later date.
Mr. Cram was born Aug. 20, 1907, at Butte to Erwin and Lorimba (Leatherman) Cram. As a youngster he moved to Shawnee, Wyo., and received his education there.
He married
Berniece M. Heuring on June 12, 1926. They lived in Ravenna and later moved to Grand Island. He joined the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in the European Theatre of Operations. He was honorably discharged in 1944.
Mr. Cram returned to Grand Island and worked as an auto body repairman. He moved to Commerce City, Colo., in 1945 and lived there for 30 years. Mrs. Cram died in 1978.
He married
Ellen "Gertie" Sallinger on Jan. 29, 1980, in Grand Island.
Survivors include his wife of Grand Island; three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Regina Cram and James and Joan Cram, all of Lakewood, Colo., and Clifford and Virginia Cram of Las Vegas; twin daughters and a son-in-law, Peggy and Robert Tagge of Broomfield, Colo., and Bonnie Johnson of Lakewood, Colo.; one sister, Ruth Hope of Lakewood, Colo.; two stepsons and their wives, William and Ruth Sallinger and Donald and Sue Sallinger, all of Lincoln; 13 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Berniece.
