LeRoy Matousek
79, Plumber, Former Fire Chief
SARGENT -- LeRoy A. Matousek, 79, of Sargent, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent. The Rev. Mark Crist will officiate. Burial will be at Mount Hope cemetery in Sargent with military rites.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Sargent Ambulance Fund or the Sargent United Methodist Church.
Mr. Matousek was born Jan 18, 1922, in Sargent to Anton and Lottie (Nesibia) Matousek. He attended school in Sargent and graduated in 1940.
After graduation he attended sheet metal school in Denver for two years and then worked for Lockheed Aircraft in California until he entered the Army Air Corps in 1942. He was discharged in 1945 and returned to Sargent.
He married
Lula Mapel on June 20, 1948, in the Walworth Church west of Sargent. He then worked with his stepfather George Hale in the plumbing business until 1975, when he purchased the business. He then was active in the business until 1991, when he sold it to his son.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sargent, the American Legion Post 104 and the Taylor VFW. He was a past member of the Sargent volunteer fire department for 34 years and served as chief for 18 years. He was a past charter member of the Ord Elks Lodge and the Sargent Alliance Club. He was an avid football fan.
Survivors include his wife of Sargent; a son and daughter-in-law, Kent and Lisa Matousek of Minden and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Irene.
Thad Gardner
KANSAS CITY, MO. -- Thad A. Gardner, 23, of Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Grand Island, died on Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, of natural causes.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mt. Moriah Terrace Park Funeral Home in Kansas City. The Rev. Dave Finestead will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Moriah Terrace Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Mt. Moriah Terrace Park Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the Williams Syndrome Association.
Mr. Gardner was born on June 21, 1978, in Grand Island to Steven and Carol Gardner. He lived in Grand Island until 1986. When he and his family moved to Kansas City, Mo., he attended school in Kansas City and was a 1997 graduate of Park Hill High School where he was the wrestling team manager for four consecutive years. He was employed at Vocational Services Inc., in North Kansas City following graduation.
Survivors include his parents; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Steven and Cathy of Kingston, Wash., and Eric and Colleen of Lakewood, Colo.; and a grandmother, Ruby Peterson of Grand Island.
Paul Powers
81, Retired Machinist
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Paul D. Powers, 81, of Anaheim, Calif., died Sept. 24, 2001, due to a traffic accident.
Services were Oct. 6 at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Fullerton. Burial was in Grand Island.
Mr. Powers was born on Oct. 30, 1919, at Central City.
He was a retired machinist at Rockwell-Collins.
Survivors include two daughters, Paula Deets of Cedar Rapids, and Linda Ravert of Carlsbad, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Janet Addeman of Buena Park, Calif.; a stepson, Lewis De Felicis of Henderson, Nev.; five grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
'Bernie' Schmidt
Bernadine "Bernie" B. Schmidt, 75, of Grand Island died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at Riverside Lodge in Grand Island.
Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Alfons Bonne
ORD -- Alfons Bonne, 91, of Ord died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. The Rev. Bob Rooney will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church or the Valley County Nursing Home.
'Mike' Campbell
ORD -- David "Mike" Campbell, 36, of Ord died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at BryanLGH in Lincoln.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Bethel Baptist Church in Ord. The Revs. John Campbell and Rob Stiner will officiate. Burial will be in the Cottonwood cemetery in Burwell.
Visitation was Friday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Campbell was born Nov. 12, 1964, at Detroit to John and Ruth (Aldred) Campbell. He lived in Michigan until the age of 13 when his family moved to the Panhandle of Nebraska.
In 1979, the family moved to Burwell. He graduated from Burwell High School in 1982. He then attended Kearney State College for a short time. He entered the U.S Air Force in 1983 and served until 1986. He returned to the Detroit area and worked as a security manager for the Burlington Coat Factory.
He married
June Erickson on Sept. 8, 1990, in Warren, Mich. They later moved to Tennessee, and he continued to work for the Burlington Coat Factory and also began working for Sam's Club. They moved to Ord in 1997, where he became manager for the Dollar General Store.
He attended the Bethel Baptist Church in Ord. He enjoyed bowling in leagues. He worked with the Cub Scouts in Ord and enjoyed working with computers.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Jonathan, and a daughter, April, both at home; his parents of Ord; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Honey Lou and Dennis Fauss and Cheryl and Chris Christenson, all of Ord; and a grandmother, Ruth Aldred of Royal Oak, Mich.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Ladd Aldred and Clare and Edith Campbell.

Neva Robinson
ALBION -- Neva M. Robinson, 95, of Albion died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church in Albion. The Revs. Terry Otto and Sonny Karges will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Mrs. Robinson was born Sept. 7, 1906, in Ainsworth to John N. and Malinda (Seymour) Atteberry. She moved with her family at an early age to Atkinson and graduated from Atkinson High School. She attended Chadron State College and graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of science in education.
She married
Bilse J. Robinson on Jan. 12, 1929. The couple lived in Albion where her husband was a principal in the Albion Public Schools, except for four years he spent as superintendent of schools at Pender. The family then returned to Albion.
After raising her children, Mrs. Robinson returned to teaching. She spent the last 16 years of her career in Albion teaching English in the junior high school, retiring in 1972.
Her husband died in 1973. She spent the summers in Albion and winters in Mesa, Ariz.
She was a member of the board of education of the Albion Public Schools for five years, served on the library board and was superintendent of the elementary department of the Methodist Church Sunday School for five years. She was baptized in and was a longtime member of the Methodist Church.
She was a member of P.E.O., United Methodist Women, the Albion Book Club, Delta Card Club and the Nebraska Education Association. While teaching, she was an active member of the Delta Kappa Gamma and Sigma Delta Nu honorary.
She was a past president of the Nebraska Federation of Women's Clubs and served for two years on the board of the International Federation of Women's Clubs. During these years, President Truman appointed her to the President's White House Committee on Education and Gov. Val Peterson honored her by naming her an admiral in the "Great Navy of Nebraska."
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Bilse and Kay Robinson and Rob and Pam Robinson, all of Albion; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and six sisters, Florence Kari, Ruby Hoefer, Loudean Waitman, Unadale Peltz, Margie Stubsted and Velma L. Atteberry.
