Vernon Prater
STROMSBURG -- Vernon Cecil Prater, 78, of Stromsburg, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001 at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Palmer Funeral Home in Palmer. The Rev. Kerry Relihan will officiate. Visitation will be prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Loyalton, Calif., at a later date.
Mr. Prater was born July 31, 1923 in Wishart, Mo., to Ora Edward and Mary Ema (Lunceford) Prater. He attended school in Loyalton, Calif. He joined the National Guard and later the Army, where he served 16 years.
He married
Dorothy Dollie Ballard Mattox on Oct. 1, 1945 in Heidelburg, Germany. They were the first American couple to be wed in Germany after World War II.
He opened a restaurant called the Totem Pole Cafe in Eldorado, Calif. He later drove a Greyhound bus based out of Sacramento, Calif., and then was a policeman Sonora, Calif. He worked in Tuleelac Correctional Facility before the family moved to Oregon where he opened the Crossroads Diner for two years.
The family moved to Wrangell, Ark., where he worked at a lumber mill and as a millwright from 1970 until 1978, when the family returned to California. He worked as an independent truck driver and for the Collins Trucking Company.
His wife died in 1981. He moved to Stromsburg in the early 1990's.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, William Edward and Kathe of New Port, Wash.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Nevada Lee and Charles Henrickson of New Port, Wash., Keri Jaine and Dusty Rhoads of Sheboygan, Wis., and Robin Jon and Andy Scribner of Stromsburg; and one sister, Marie Coggin of Loyalton, Calif.
Other than his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl, Lee and Bruce Prater and one sister, Velma Shelton.
Clyde Chamberlin
ARLINGTON -- Clyde E. Chamberlin, 71, of Arlington died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Arlington Community Church. The Rev. Lynn Martin will officiate.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington and one hour prior to service at the church. Military honors will be conducted by members of the VFW Post No. 8332 and American Legion Post No. 71 of Arlington. Burial will be in Arcadia cemetery in Arcadia.
Mr. Chamberlin was born May 17, 1930, at Mason City to Chester and Bertha (Kipp) Chamberlin. He grew up in the rural Mason City area and was a graduate of Mason City High School. He moved to Omaha in 1948 and was employed at Armor Meat Packing Plant. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1950 and then served during the Korean war from 1951 to 1953.
He married
Lois Woody on June 21, 1957. He moved to Millard and lived there for 12 years. He then moved to Grand Island for 10 years. He returned to Millard for 12 years and then moved to Arlington where he had lived for the past 10 years. He was employed at Swift and Company (now ConAgra) for more than 36 years. He retired in 1991.
He was a member of VFW Post No. 8332 and American Legion Post No. 71, both of Arlington.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and a daughter-in-law, John Schmidthorst of Omaha and Craig and Pam Chamberlin of Arlington; a brother, Arthur Chamberlin of Mason City; two sisters, Effie Bellar of Benkleman and Norma Chamberlin of Omaha; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Gordon Chamberlin.
Carol DeLoach
OMAHA -- Carol DeLoach, 57, of Omaha, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001 in Omaha.
Arrangements are being made for graveside services at Westlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Colonial Chapel in Omaha.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. DeLoach graduated from Grand Island Senior High and ran North Broadwell Beauty in Grand Island until 1972. She moved to North Platte and worked as a State Board Examiner for the Cosmetology Board. She was later a lobbyist for Senator Glen Goodrich and then a real estate broker.

John DeLoach in 1986.
Survivors include one daughter, Shelli Nuss of Omaha, one grandson and one sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Jerry Kort of Brady.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John DeLoach and her parents, Max and Vivian Powers.
Al Koskovich
PETERSBURG -- Al Koskovich, 78, of Petersburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at Boone County Health Center in Albion.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John's Catholic Church in Petersburg. The Rev. Frank Baumert will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at the church with wake services at 7:30 p.m.
Levander Funeral Home in Albion is in charge of arrangements.
Nancy Scott
OMAHA -- Nancy L. Scott, 50, of Omaha, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001 in Omaha.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the John A. Gentleman 72nd Street Chapel in Omaha. A Christian wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Scott was born on June 27, 1951 in Atlanta.
Survivors include her mother, Patricia Jameson; one daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Gregg Vogel of Omaha; two sons, Christopher Scott and Brad Moran, both of Omaha; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Susan and Jan Markham, Mary Jameson and Janet Jameson, all of Grand Island; three brothers, David Jameson of Grand Island and Mark and Steve Jameson of Portland, Oregon; and one sister-in-law, Wendi Sherrill of Omaha.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Jameson.
Alice Klingenberg
LITTLETON, Colo. -- Alice T. Klingenberg, 86, of Littleton, Colo., died Aug. 24, 2001, at the Life Care Center of Westminister.
Services were at noon Aug. 27 at Drinkwine Family Mortuary, Inc., in Littleton, Colo. Burial was in Chapel Hills Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart or Lung Association.
Mrs. Klingenberg was born Dec. 18, 1914, at Grand Island. She attended Grand Island High School and Stevens College for two years.
She married
Donald A. Klingenberg on Sept. 25, 1937, at Wichita, Kan.
She was a member of Littleton Elks Club and Denver Newcomers.
Survivors include three brothers, Gordon Tully of Westminister, Colo., Phil Tully of Canyon, Texas and Charles Tully Jr. of Arlington Heights.
Vicky Standlea
GRANDVIEW, Wash. -- Vicky Standlea, 50, of Grandview, Wash., died Aug. 12, 2001, after a long illness.
There were no services. Her body was cremated.
Smith Funeral Home Limited in Grandview, Wash., was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Standlea was born Dec. 8, 1949, at Halsey to Alvin and Mary Lea (Boren) Standlea. They moved to Washington, where she lived for most of her life.
Survivors include two sons, Patrick Standlea of Lincoln and Brian Standlea of Washington; a daughter, Timmi Standlea of St. Paul; six grandchildren; two brothers, Kelly Standlea of Grand Island and Britton Standlea of Randolph, Kan.; her mother of Randolph, Kan.; and special friend, Harry Fowler of Grandview, Wash.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Ted, Bob, Bill and Tim Standlea.
