Joshua Hofer
NORTH PLATTE -- Joshua Evan Hofer, 21Ž2 of North Platte, died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Assembly of God Church. The Rev. David Jones will officiate. Burial will be in North Platte Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m Wednesday at the Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Joshua Evan Hofer Memorial Fund.
Joshua was born March 17, 1997, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center to Joseph and Julie (Pence) Hofer.
Survivors include his parents; one brother, Brian Andrew Hofer; grandparents, Dick and Nancy Pence of Grand Island and Joe and Rachel Hofer of Huntley, Mont.; great-grandparents, Mary Jane Pence and Ralph and Vera Stenehjem of Billings, Mont.
Jack Boroff
WEATHERFORD, TEXAS -- Jack L. Boroff, 67, of Weatherford, Texas, formerly of Grand Island, died Friday, Sept. 10, 1999, at his home in Texas.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Harms will officiate. Burial will be in the Cedarview cemetery near Doniphan.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Boroff was born March 8, 1932, to Merton and Lela (Stiles) Boroff at Doniphan. He and received his education at Wood River.
On Jan. 15, 1952, he entered the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. He was discharged on Dec. 23, 1953.
While in Grand Island, he worked for Diamond Engineering. He later moved to Texas where he worked for American Airlines as a shipping and receiving clerk.
He was an avid sports fan and liked to read.
Survivors include one brother, Jim of Wood River and four sisters, Kay Rieken and Carole Vejvoda, both of Grand Island, Karan Scott of Lincoln and Kaffie Albers of Coalville, Utah.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Leva Aufdenkamp.
Sarah Coffey
PLANO, Texas -- Sarah Johnson Coffey, infant daughter of Roger and Jodie Coffey of Plano, Texas, died at birth, Friday, Sept. 17, 1999.
Private graveside services will be at the Phillips City Cemetery. Cedar Crest Cremation and Burial Center of Plano, Texas, is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her parents; one sister, Ericka Coffey of Plano; paternal grandparents, Marvin and Delva Coffey of Harvard; and maternal grandparents, Gary and Kathy Johnson of Oconto, Wis.
Marie Clayton
CENTRAL CITY -- Marie Clayton, 85, of Central City, formerly of Hordville, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at Litzenberg Memorial Hospital in Central City.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fridhem Lutheran Church in Hordville. The Rev. Charles Pollard will officiate. Burial will be at the Hordville Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
Memorials are suggested to the Fridhem Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Clayton was born Feb. 28, 1915, at Hordville to John Emil and Emily C. (Bengtson) Veburg. She graduated from Hordville High School in 1933, and then attended Luther College in Wahoo.
She taught school in Hordville from 1934 to 1944.
She married
Kenneth Robert Clayton on April 2, 1944. While Mr. Clayton was in the service, Mrs. Clayton worked in San Francisco, Calif. and Washington D.C. They returned to the Hordville area, where Mrs. Clayton was a homemaker.
Mr. Clayton died on Aug. 21, 1969. Mrs. Clayton returned to school, receiving her bachelor of education degree from Kearney State College in 1978. She taught at District No. 11 school near Fullerton until her retirement in 1985. She continued tutoring students after her retirement, however.
She moved to Central City in 1997, and to Long Term Care in 1999.
She was a member of Fridhem Lutheran Church in Hordville, Lutheran Christian Women and taught Sunday school.
She was an avid stamp collector, bird watcher and historian. She wrote a history of Hordville and Hordville news for Polk Progress, the Central City Republican Non-pareil and the Aurora News-Register. She also enjoyed square dancing and playing cards.
Survivors include three sons, Alan of Memomonee Falls, Wis., Paul of Central City and Robert of Schuyler; two brothers, Ron Veburg of Hastings and Conrad Veburg of Columbus; a sister, Agnes Anderson of Bettendorf, Iowa; and four grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Veburg.
Elvina Van Slyke Collins
SCOTIA -- Elvina Van Slyke Collins, 99, of Scotia died Wednesday, September 20, 2000 at the Howard County Hospital in Scotia.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ord Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Melanie Adams will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery.
Visitation will be prior to service time on Saturday.
Memorials are suggested to the Scotia rescue Unit or to the Playground Equipment Fund at the Scotia Park.
Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mildred Daily
BROKEN BOW -- Mildred B. Daily, 94, of Broken Bow, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken bow.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Jim Stark will officiate. Burial will be in the New Helena cemetery north of Merna.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Memorials are suggested to the New Helena cemetery Fund and the Whitman Community Club at Whitman.
Mrs. Daily was born Sept. 24, 1905, on a farm north of Gates to Harry A. and Myrtle Rae (Butcher) Cummings. She lived there until the family moved to Holyoke, Colo.
She married
Lyle Dady in Holyoke. She later moved to Denver, Colo., where she married
Robert S. Brashear. Mr. Brashear died in 1960.
In 1971 she married
Mick Daily, they lived in Denver until 1974, when they moved to Anselmo, where they lived until Mr. Daily's death in 1988. In 1990 she moved to Liberty Square in Broken Bow and lived there until recently due to health reasons she moved to Sandhills Manor and then to Heritage Hall, both in Broken Bow.
Survivors include one son, Billie Bruce Dady of Everett, Wash.; one daughter, Jolene "Jodi" (Mrs. Donald) Daily of Whitman; a stepdaughter, Delores (Mrs. Jack) Spitzer of Colorado Springs, Colo.; stepchildren, Bob Daily of Broken bow, Dorothy (Mrs. Eugene) James of Mullen, Dixie (Mrs. Doug) Engelhardt of Ulm, Mont.; a sister, Lois (Mrs. Harry) Haas of Denver, Colo.; four grandchildren; 21 stepgrand children; seven great-grandchildren; 38 stepgreat-grandchldren; and seven step great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her two husbands, Robert and Mick she was preceded in death by one brother, A.G. "Barney" Cummings.
Ray Lauritsen
DANNEBROG -- Ray S. Lauritsen, 85, of Dannebrog, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, at Rose Lane Nursing Home in Loup City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dannebrog. The Rev. Robert Carlson Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Oakridge cemetery in Dannebrog.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mr. Lauritsen was born May 6, 1915, in Dannebrog to Thomas F. and Stena (Steffensen) Lauritsen.
He received his education at rural school District No. 74 near Dannebrog and then attended Dannebrog High School. He helped his brother, Hans and his father, farm and feed cattle.
He married
Rachel Steinke on March 29, 1939, in Dannebrog. The couple lived for 20 years on the Stockholm farm west of Dannebrog before purchasing the Lauritsen Farm where he lived for the remainder of his life.
He enjoyed playing golf and fishing.
He was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Dannebrog, the Dannebrog Country Club, where he served as president for three years and served on the Dannebrog School Board.
Survivors include is wife; two sons, Tom of Dannebrog and Randy of Ponca City, Okla.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Hans.
