Anola Schenk
CENTRAL CITY -- Anola Elaine Schenk, 77, of Central City, died at her home Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7 at the Community Bible Church in Central City. The Rev. Gil Larsen will officiate. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery. Solt Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Schenk was born Feb. 26, 1923 in Ainsworth to Guy and Edna (Decker) Kenyon. She graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1941 and then took Normal School Training.
She married
Frederick G. Schenk on July 1, 1945 in Ainsworth. The couple moved to Central City in 1946 where she was a homemaker for many years until going to work with her mother-in-law at The Cut and Sew Shop. After the shop was sold, she continued to work there until 1985. Later she babysat for local families.
Mr. Schenk died Oct. 11, 1979.
She was a member of the Community Bible Church where she often worked in the nursery. She also enjoyed sewing and gardening.
Survivors include two sons, Fred Jr. and Eugene of Central City; two daughters, Carol of Aurora and Sandy of Lincoln; two brothers, Herbert Kenyon of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Rodney Kenyon of California; one sister, Anita Hunter of Omaha; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Douglas Kenyon and one great-grandchild.
Teckla Wroblewski
LOUP CITY -- Teckla D. Wroblewski, 86, of Loup city, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at the Howard County Community Hospital at St. Paul.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elba. The Rev. Reginald A. Urban will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery at Elba.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The rosary will be recited in Polish at 6 p.m. with a vigil service and sodality rosary at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church in Loup City.
Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Hospice.
Peters Funeral Home of Loup City is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Wroblewski was born on Sept. 15, 1914, on the family farm north of Ashton to Joe and Mary (Sonnenfeld) Shuda. She attended Sherman County rural schools and received her religious education at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church at Paplin.
She married
Tony Garvel on Nov. 25, 1935, at Loup City. The couple first lived near Ashton, later moving to the Cotesfield, Elba and Dannevirke areas. She later moved to Grand Island, where she worked at the former Delicious Foods for a number of years until her retirement.
She married
Harry Wroblewski on April 22, 1978, at Grand Island. The couple lived in Loup City.
She enjoyed gardening and canning.
She was a member of St. Josaphat's Catholic Church and its Council of Catholic women and Rosary Sodality. She was a former member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elba.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Ann (Mrs. Fred) Dzingle of Elba; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; two sons, Stanley and Jimmy Garvel; one great-granddaughter; six brothers, Walter Teophil, Tony, Robert, Adam and Peter Shuda and six sisters, Gertrude Stenka, Martha Stenka, Katherine Marshalek, Victoria Marshalek, Theresa Shuda and Eleonora Garvel.
Bernice Brabander
CAMARILLO, Calif. -- Bernice Brabander, 82, of Camarillo, Calif., formerly of Grand Island, died Sept. 27 in Camarillo after a lengthy illness.
Services were Sept. 29, in Burbank, Calif. Burial was at Forest Lawn at Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles.
Mrs. Brabander was born Sept. 6, 1918, in Chicago to Walter and Ida Baumbach Rank.
She received her schooling in Grand Island. She worked at the Diner Cafe from 1935 to 1941.
She married
Bernhard Brabander on Feb. 15, 1941, in Las Vegas.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years; a sister, Ruth Wood of Exeter, Calif.; two daughters, Carol Monet of Canoga Park, Calif. and Kathy Anderson of Cameron Park, Calif.; one son, James Brabander of Gresham, Ore.; three grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Adeline Hill and a brother, Bill Rank.
Jason Rayburn
Jason Scott Rayburn, 27, of Oakwood, Ga., formerly of Grand Island, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, in Oakwood.
Mr. Rayburn's body was cremated. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Rayburn was born Aug. 19, 1973, at Beatrice, to Leo and Rana (Mangnall) Rayburn. He grew up and attended school in Beatrice until the seventh grade when he moved with his family to Kearney. The family moved to Grand Island and Mr. Rayburn graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1990.
Following high school he operated his own cleaning business.
He married
Lori Kosmicki. He moved to Georgia in April of this year and began working for United Parcel Service.
He was active in Boy Scouts in his youth. He was a member of the Grand Island Archery Club and the Grand Island Rifle Club. He enjoyed the outdoors.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Rana and Patrick Nolan of Grand Island; his father and stepmother, Leo and Yolanda Rayburn of Grand Island; one brother, Eric Rayburn of Alda; grandparents, Cecil and Dorothy Mangnall of Filley, Arthur and Evelyn Achtemeier of Beatrice and William and Jo Haymond of Tampa, Fla. four stepbrothers, Michael Nolan, Eric Nolan, Travis Nolan and Tim Gregory; and one stepsister, Tiffany Gregory.
Helen Brush
Helen Geraldine Brush, 88, of Grand Island, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at Tiffany Square.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Volney Lofgreen will officiate. Burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mrs. Brush was born Sept. 5, 1912, to George and Ethel (Kissel) Garris at Sargent. She grew up on a farm near Sargent and attended the Blue Mound Country School. She graduated from the Sargent High School as valedictorian of the class of 1930. After graduation she taught school for two years at the Madison Square School near Taylor.
She married
Harold Leroy Brush of Sargent on June 1, 1936, at Broken Bow. They lived in and around Sargent until April 1943 at which time they moved to Grand Island, where they lived from that time on.
Mr. Brush died in 1959 and she continued to live in Grand Island and provided day care for many children in Grand Island.
She was a member of the First Christian Church and was baptized on April 17, 1949.
She volunteered countless hours in church work, in school activities and as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader. She regularly donated at the Red Cross blood bank. She spent a lot of time following the activities of her grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Maryth (Mrs. Robert) Owen of Wolbach and JoAnn Bowman of North Platte; one son, Bradley of Grand Island; two grandsons; two granddaughters; seven great-grandchildren; four great-stepgrandchildren; and one sister, Luella Gibson of Topeka, Kan.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Maurice Garris.
Agnes Hollingsworth
SARGENT -- Agnes R. Hollingsworth, 90, of Sargent, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sargent. The Rev. Bernard Berger will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery at Sargent.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent with a wake service at 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice or for masses.
Mrs. Hollingsworth was born Aug. 2, 1910, east of Sargent in Valley County to Joseph and Agnes (Hejsek) Hosek. At the age of 6 she moved with her parents to Sargent. She graduated from Sargent High School.
She moved to California and attended training school for the garment industry. After her education she worked for the garment industry.
In 1956 she married
Jesse "Jack" Hollingsworth at Las Vegas.
They moved back to Sargent at the time of their retirement. Mr. Hollingsworth died in July 1984. She lived with her sister, Mary until entering the Sargent Nursing Center, in December 1996, which has been her home since that time.
Survivors include one brother, Emmanuel Hosek of Sargent and one sister, Mary Hosek of Sargent.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a daughter; two sisters, Emma McGahan and Anna Hosek; and two brothers, Joseph and Emil Hosek.
