Orville Maricle
ALBION -- Orville L. Maricle, 86, died Saturday, July 22, 2000 as a result of an automobile accident near Howells.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Albion. The Rev. Terry Otto will officiate. Burial will be in Boone cemetery in rural Albion.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Mr. Maricle was born October 15, 1913 on a farm near Boone to Clarence and Lulu (Mansfield) Maricle. He attended a Boone country school and graduated from Albion High School.
He married
Clytie E. Sharp on Feb. 15, 1937 in Albion. The couple farmed for a number of years before managing a pool hall in Albion. He later did carpentry work with his brother Ed and worked for the city of Albion.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Albion, the Dew Drop Birthday Club and a founding member of the Albion Saddle Club. He enjoyed playing baseball and umpired for many years.
Survivors include one son, Leon of Wisconsin; two sisters, Patricia (Mrs. Nick) Nichols of Camas, Wash., and Francis Burrows of Sun Valley, Nev.; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; one daughter, Yvonne Ostrander; one brother, Edwin; and one granddaughter, Tammy.
Agnes Ptacnik
ORD -- Agnes Ptacnik, 90, of Ord, died Saturday, July 22, 2000 at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. The Rev. Robert Rooney will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the St. Mary's School or the Valley County Hospital.
Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Ptacnik was born on April 8, 1910 west of Ord to Joseph and Albina (Maresh) Holoun. She was raised on the family farm west of Ord and attended the Woodman Country School in Valley County. She stayed on the farm and helped her father until 1933.
She married
Lumir Ptacnik on May 9, 1933 at the Geranium Catholic Church west of Ord. They farmed west of Ord until 1970 when they retired.
She was a member of the Altar Society and several extension and card clubs. She enjoyed baking, canning and making scrap books.
Survivors include one son, Dennis of Ord; nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Vernon; five sisters; and one brother.
Harold Hartman
KEARNEY -- Harold C. "Butch" Hartman, 60, of 2701 Grand Ave. #28 in Kearney, died Saturday, July 22, 2000 at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 26 at the O'Brien-Straatman-Apfel Chapel in Elm Creek. The Rev. Ken Fairbrother will officiate. Burial will be in the Elm Creek cemetery following the service.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home chapel in Elm Creek and one hour prior to the service.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Hartman was born on March 24, 1940 at Duncanfalls, Ohio to Russell and Edith (Hemrick) Hartman. He grew up and attended school at Duncanfalls. While living in Ohio, he worked for Allid Tiles.
He married
Kathleen Fortney on September 1, 1962 at St. Mary's, West Virginia. The couple moved to Nebraska where he worked for Redex Grain Dryers of Elm Creek and C&S; Dryer Service.
He enjoyed fishing and stock car racing.
Survivors include his ex-wife; four daughters, Roxanna Rains of Norwich, Ohio, Vera Sisneros of Cozad, Kimberely Marino of Lexington and Carrie Bran of Elm Creek; five brothers; six sisters; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother and a number of sisters.
Eileen Wescoat
LEXINGTON -- Eileen C. Wescoat, 72, of Lexington, died Friday, July 21, 2000 at her home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington. The Rev. Don Buhrman will officiate. Burial will be in the Greenwood cemetery in Lexington.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home chapel in Lexington. A Christian wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Reynolds-Love chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association or the donor's choice.
Mrs. Wescoat was born August 6, 1927 at Blue Hill to William and Adelaine (Himmelberg) Schumm.
She married
Willis Wescoat on Jan. 17, 1957 at Alma. The couple moved to Lexington in 1958 where she worked at several local cafes and haymills. She was later employed by Monroes in Cozad. She retired in 1992.
Following retirement, the couple did yard work for people around the area.
She enjoyed doing yard work and gardening.
Survivors include two sons, Patrick and Michael, both of Lexington; four daughters, Maxine (Mrs. David) Vieth of Grand Island, Pam Wescoat of Lexington, Ruth (Mrs. Tim) Bohlen of Stockton, Ill. and Amy (Mrs. Pat) Tallon of Lincoln; two brothers, LeRoy Schumm of Lawrence and Gilbert Schumm of Deweese; four sisters, Alvira Kathman of Lawrence, Lorene Kline and Josephine Mangers, both of Roseland and Elizabeth Claussen of Glenvil; and eleven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, William; four brothers, William, Leonard, Sylvester and Joseph; and two sisters, Martha and Edna.
William Bacon
William L. Bacon, 72, of Grand Island died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Michael Torres will officiate.
There will be no visitation. Mr. Bacon's body was cremated.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Bacon was born Nov. 16, 1928, at Hildreth to Louis and Iva (Dwall) Bacon. He received his education in Kearney.
He was inducted into the U.S. Army in Omaha on Jan. 5, 1951. He was discharged on Oct. 6, 1952. He was transferred to the Army Reserves on Oct. 7, 1952, and served in this capacity until he was discharged on Aug. 30, 1956. After his military service he was employed by Turner Grain Co. in Kenesaw. He also served on the volunteer fire department. He then worked at Scouler Grain in Shelton. He retired in 1990.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and collecting eagles. He was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jeffrey Bacon of Kenesaw and Jimmie and Sarah Bacon of Kearney; a daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Kim Triplett of Blair; seven grandchildren; and a brother, Howard Bacon of Elm Creek.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter and two brothers, Edwin and Raymond Bacon.
Kenneth Casteel
Kenneth G. Casteel, 82, of Grand Island died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. George Wheat will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Humane Society.
Mr. Casteel was born June 22, 1919, at Grand Island to Lynn and Clarice A. (Miller) Casteel. He grew up and received his education in Grand Island.
He married
Evelyn Keller in 1941 at Columbus. He entered the U.S. Army on July 9, 1943, at Fort Crook and served in Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was discharged on Jan. 21, 1946, from Fort Leavenworth, Kan.
He married
Ella J. Beekman on Oct. 1, 1955, at St. Paul. The couple lived in Grand Island where he was a self-employed trucker. In 1963, he was employed by the Grand Island Parks Department, and in 1970 he worked for Hall County as parks superintendent, retiring in 1985.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Platt-Duetsche, Fraternal Order of Eagles, VFW Post 1347 in Grand Island and the American Legion Post 300 in Doniphan.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Delene White of Dale, Ind.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by both wives; a daughter, Gaylene Phillips; a brother, Deryld Casteel; and a sister, Dorothy Clark.
