Mary Schacht
DENVER -- Mary C. Schacht, 68, of Denver, formerly of Grand Island and Amarillo, Texas, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at Exempla Lutheran Hospital Hospice Residence of Denver.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Inurnment will be in Grand Island City cemetery prior to service time.
There will be no visitation. She was cremated.

Memorials are suggested to Exempla Lutheran Hospital Hospice Residence or St. Pauls Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Schacht was born April 22, 1933, in Hall County to John and Frieda (Furstenau) Sievers. She attended school in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1950. She was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Grand Island for 10 years.
She married
Wayne A. Schacht on Feb. 6, 1960, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island.
She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, where she was baptized, confirmed and married.
Survivors include her husband; two sons and daughters-in-law, Brad and Carrie Schacht of Denver and Greg and Kim Schacht of Amarillo, Texas; a daughter, Nancy Schacht of Denver; a sister, Arlene Sievers of Grand Island; three brothers, Jack Sievers of Greeley, Colo., Bob Sievers of Palm Desert, Calif., and Don Sievers of Omaha; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer A. Schacht; and two brothers, Lyle and Richard Sievers.
Mary Wells
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Mary M. Wells, 74, of Sioux Falls, S.D., died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001, at Sioux Valley Hospital.
Burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Christ the King Catholic Church in Sioux Falls with entombment at Hills of Rest Mausoleum.
Visitation will begin at noon Tuesday at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. A wake service will be at 7 p.m. with family greeting friends.
Mrs. Wells was born Nov. 20, 1926, in St. Paul to Charles E. and Laura E. (Nunn) Fuller. She grew up and attended school in St. Paul. She then traveled with her sister.
She married
Ray Wells on March 25, 1955, in Luverne, Minn. The couple lived in Sioux Falls.
She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading books, watching stock car races, rummage sales, playing cards, listening to music and playing games.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Renae Graves of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Yvonne Gydesen of Grand Island; two sons, Roy R. Wells Jr. and Frank W. Wells, both of Sioux Falls; three grandchildren; a sister, Edna Webb of Grand Island; and two brothers-in-law, Grenade Harrigle and wife Sarah of Sioux Falls and James Arends of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ernie Jensen; a grandson; and three sisters, Opal, Dot "Gloria" and Bertha.
Irvin Friedrichsen
Irvin R. Friedrichsen, 71, of Grand Island died Saturday, July 1, 2000, in Grand Island.

Laura Saner
DUNNING -- Laura H. Saner, 93, of Dunning died Friday, June 30, 2000, at the Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the United Church of Christ in Dunning. The Rev. Tim Pearson will officiate. Burial will be in the Brewster cemetery following the service.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Memorials are suggested to the Brewster Rescue Unit of to the United Church of Christ. Govier Brothers Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
Ms. Saner was born March 18, 1907, at Rockville to William and Sophia (Husa) Carruth. She attended schools in Rockville until 1920 when she and her family moved by covered wagon to Brewster. She then attended Blaine Center School.
She married
Harley L. Saner on April 6, 1927, at a sod house northwest of Brewster. The couple than moved to Kimball where they farmed and later moved to Hemingford where they also farmed. In 1943 they moved again to Blaine County and retired in 1983 in Brewster.
She was a member of the Neighborhood club, the Kennington club, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Broken Bow Does, District 29 School Board, and the Helping Hand Society.
Survivors include three sons, Ben of Salliaw Okla., Don of Dunning and Jim of Middleton, Idaho; three daughters, Delilah (Mrs. Dale) Zimmerman of Broken Bow, Doris (Mrs. Tom) Sierks of Dunning and Lorriane (Mrs. Rolly) Glause of Broken Bow; one sister, Myra Bauer of Dunning; twenty seven grandchildren; and numerous great and great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Clayton and Lawrence; one daughter Hazel; one granddaughter; and two great granddaughters.
Merle VanZandt
ORD -- Merle Raymond "Mose" VanZandt, 84, of Ord died Friday, June 30, 2000, at the Corner Cottage in Ord.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 3 at the Ord United Methodist Church in Ord. The Rev. Ron Roemmich will officiate. Concluding services will be by the Ord Masonic Lodge 103 A.F. and A.M. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Ord Volunteer Fire Department or to the donor's choice. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. VanZandt was born August 23, 1915, on a farm north of Mason City to William and Mattie (Lamb) VanZandt. He attended school at Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School.
He married
Ladine Kleckner on Feb. 11, 1939, at Mason City. While there, he worked in the Implement Business until moving to Grand Island to work for the International Harvester Company in the early 1940s. The couple moved to Ord in 1948 and he continued to work for the International Harvest Company which later became known as S & M Farm Equipment until he retired in 1981.
He was a longtime member of the Ord United Methodist Church, the Ord Volunteer Fire Department, the Ord Elks Lodge 2371, the Ord Masonic Lodge 103 A.F. and A.M., and served on the Ord City Council. He enjoyed his work with the Shriners as well.
Survivors include one daughter, Karnen (Mrs. Arlin) Zaruba of Ord; two sons, Dan of Kearney and Bill of Mason City; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; two brothers, Jack and Duane; one sister, Francis; and a granddaughter, Gayle.
Catherine Ewing
SPALDING -- Catherine Z. Ewing, 79, of Spalding died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at the Bone County Health Center in Albion.
Funeral Services are pending with the Levander Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids.

Clair Britton
LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- Clair Britton, 86, of Lakewood, Colo., formerly of Ravenna, died Saturday at a Lakewood hospital.
Services will be at noon Thursday at the Crown Hill Mortuary in Denver, Colo., with burial at Crown Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Britton lived in Ravenna for many years and was mayor during the 1970s.
He is survived by his wife Elma of Lakewood; one daughter, Susan Herman of Alamosa, Colo.; and one grandson.
He was preceded by three borthers, Glen, Harold and Don; and one grandson.
Darrell Duering
ARVADE, COLO -- Darrell Alfred Duering, 67, of Arvada, Colo., died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, in Arvada.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Olinger Sixteenth Street Mortuary in Arvada.
Mr. Duering, who had been in the furniture business, was born in North Platte.
Survivors include his wife, Marianne Baughman of Arvada; two sons, Rick of St. Joseph, Mo., and Dru of Grand Isalnd; one daughter, Cheri Jakubowski of Chandler, Ariz.; five sisters, Bessie Clark of Grand Island, Marjorie Belairs of Grand Island, Pauline Roberts of Seward, Mabel VanCleve of Grand Island, and Darlene Kyhn of St. Paul; two brothers, Glen of Lexington, and Jerry of Grand Island; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
