Helen Campbell
Helen F. Campbell, 89, of 247 S. Locust died Wednesday, July 14, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center. She had been in failing health for some time.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Campbell was born Feb. 16, 1910, at Decorah, Iowa, to George and Edith (Updall) Fox. She moved to Marquette as a young girl and received her education there, graduating in 1928. She began working for Bell Telephone Co. and retired after 30 years of service.
She married
Robert Campbell on April 23, 1943, in Fullerton. The couple lived most of their married
lives in Grand Island.
Survivors include her husband; and a brother, Robert Fox of Topeka, Kan.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Marlys Umsdahl and a brother, Edward Fox.
Loretta Ericksen
Loretta E. Ericksen, 82, of Grand Island died Wednesday, July 14, 1999, at Wedgewood Care Center.
Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Kathleen White
Kathleen E. White, 78, of Grand Island died Wednesday, July 14, 1999, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Gollaher Chapel at Trinity United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jim Keyser will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 9 p.m. at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the Trinity United Methodist Women or Stuhr Museum.
Mrs. White was born May 11, 1921, to August and Emma (Springsguth) Stuhr at Grand Island. She grew up and was educated in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High School in 1939.
She married
Don R. White on June 30, 1940, at Grand Island, after which the couple lived in Grand Island. She worked at Model Laundry and later at the Jack and Jill Bakery until she retired in 1983.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was actively involved in her church. She enjoyed her family, traveling, her extension club and her sewing group.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, David White and Gary White, both of Grand Island; a daughter, Kristin Scarborough of Lenexa, Kan.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and a sister, Florence Shetler of Nyssa, Ore.
She was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.
Vivian Anderson
STROMSBURG -- Vivian Marie Christina Anderson, 88, of Stromsburg died Sunday, July 11, 1999, at Bishop Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Stromsburg. The Rev. Bob Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg.
Mrs. Anderson was born in Stromsburg on Feb. 28, 1911, to Nels and Christina (Carlson) Anderson. She attended Stromsburg Public School and graduated from Stromsburg High School in 1929.
After graduation, she worked at Lunner and Johnson's store as a salesperson for about six years.
On June 26, 1935, she married
Wilmer Anderson at the Stromsburg Covenant Church. She provided care for her parents for 12 years and for her uncle, August, who also lived with the family.
She was a member of the Stromsburg Covenant Church and served n many capacities. Some of her church activities included teaching Sunday School, serving Covenant Women in various officer positions, and sitting on committees for building the parsonage and the 100th Anniversary Cookbook.
She also served the community in numerous ways, including as a member of the Stromsburg Women's Club, working with Y-Teens, FHA, Girl Scouts and 4-H and volunteering to help with the Stromsburg Swedish Festival.
She was a member of the Covenant Home board of directors, serving as secretary while the home was being built. She also enjoyed her long membership and friendships in U-Go-I-Go. She enjoyed vacationing in Estes Park, Colo., each year.
Survivors include three daughters, Marjorie (Mrs. Dale G.) Anderson of Lincoln, Katherine (Mrs. Donald) W. Lybecker of Fort Collins, Colo., and Mary (Mrs. Marvin G.) Wadell of Stromsburg; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and three sisters, Anna Swanson, Lillian Carlson and Esther Anderson.
Frances Benisek
HASTINGS -- Frances Benisek, 93, of Hastings, formerly of Ravenna, died Tuesday, July 13, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Village in Hastings.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Ravenna. The Rev. Rod Pruss will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Park cemetery in Ravenna.
There will be a 7 p.m. wake service Thursday at the church.
Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna is in charge of arrangements.
She was born June 23, 1906, in Buffalo County to Frank and Marie (Jirotka) Benisek. She was educated at District 39 and Ravenna High School.
She taught sixth grade in Ravenna for many years.
Survivors include one niece, Betty Rallens of Grand Island; and one nephew, Ron Benisek of Ravenna.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph.
Stina Johns
BURWELL -- Stina Johns, 88, of Burwell died Tuesday, July 13, 1999, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. The Rev. Rolly Salts will officiate. Burial will be in the Cottonwood cemetery in Burwell.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the Heart Foundation.
Mrs. Jones was born Oct. 4, 1910, in Percival, Iowa, to B.B. and Mamie (Surface) Runyon.
She married
Chester Johns on March 30, 1949. They purchased a farm, which they operated for several years. In 1950, they moved to Denver, Colo., and operated an automobile business there. In 1986, they moved back to Burwell.
Survivors include three sisters, Ruby Miller of Wellman, Iowa, Lois Poe of Omaha and Laurel Sears of Auburn.
Evert Combs
BURWELL -- Evert F. Combs, 66, of Burwell died Tuesday, July 13, 1999, at Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Burwell. The Rev. Michael Laing will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood cemetery in Burwell.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.
Memorials are suggested to the Burwell Ambulance Fund or the family.
Mr. Combs was born July 6, 1932, in Lead, S.D., to Edward and May (Kinney) Combs.
He married
Ilene Bower on June 8, 1955, in Burwell. They lived and ranched at Wood Lake for one year before moving back to the Burwell area. Combs farmed and worked in the iron business.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Linda Buhlke of Burwell; two sons, Steve of Layton, Utah, and Stace of North Platte; one sister, Lola Birch of Grand Island; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Loren; and one sister, Celia.
