Kenneth Wertz
Kenneth E. Wertz, 84, of Grand Island, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island.
Services will be Thursday in Fleming, Colo.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island with family greeting friends from 6 to 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
Mr. Wertz was born Aug. 21, 1917, at Fleming, Colo., to Edward G. and Inez M. (Fulford) Wertz. He grew up in Fleming and graduated from Fleming High School in 1933. He farmed with his father and brother.
He married
June Hulse on Dec. 10, 1944, in Denver. He began a grain trucking business. He came to Grand Island in 1955 as a grain buyer for Consolidated Mills. He lived in Grand Island until 1971 when he moved back to Fleming. After his retirement in 1981, he returned to Grand Island.
He was a member of Abundant Life Christian Center in Grand Island and a charter member of the Assembly of God Church in Fleming. He also was a member of Toastmasters, Nebraska Motor Carriers and the Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include his wife; four sons and a daughter-in-law, Lyle G. Wertz of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Rodney W. Wertz, Richard B. and Susan Wertz and Kendell L. Wertz, all of Grand Island; four daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia and John Daley of Plano, Texas, Judith Puckett of Loveland, Colo., Barbara J. Hobbs of Sterling, Colo., and Brenda L. Wertz of Dallas; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, R. Wayne Wertz of Fleming; and two sisters, Shirley Pettes and Carol Ann Stephens, both of Denver.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Arnola.
Kenneth Boeding
HASTINGS -- Kenneth J. Boeding, 76, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Hastings. The Rev. Michael Houlihan will officiate. Burial will be in Parkview cemetery in Hastings with military rites.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday with rosary at 8 p.m. at Butler-Volland Chapel in Hastings. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Hastings Catholic Schools Trust or South Central Nebraska Right to Life.
Mr. Boeding was born Dec. 30, 1924, in Nemaha County near Seneca, Kan., to Francis X. and Anna A. (Herbers) Boeding. He grew up in Seneca, Kan., and graduated from St. Peter and Paul High School. He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II. He lived in California for a short time after his discharge. He entered Creighton School of Pharmacy in Omaha.
He married
Rosella M. Weir of Sheldon, Iowa, on Aug. 12, 1950. He graduated from Creighton School of Pharmacy in 1951 and was King Creighton in 1951. After graduation, he was a pharmaceutical representative for E.R. Squibb & Co. The couple lived in Grand Island for 17 years and then moved to Aurora. In June 1971 they moved to Hastings where he was the pharmacist for Mary Lanning Hospital and later at the Hastings Regional Center. After retirement, he was a relief pharmacist for area pharmacists. His wife died June 23, 1997.
He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and Men's Club, 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, sang in St. Cecilia's Catholic Church choir and was active in the Pro-Life movement. He was a past member of Nebraska Pharmaceutical Association, Elks and Platt-Duetsche Society.
He was a longtime official of high school baseball, basketball, softball and football.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Boeding of Hastings and Theresa and Bob Runion of Aurora; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Canute Boeding of Hastings, Stephen and Nancy Boeding of Garland, Texas, Matthew and Susanna Boeding of Hastings and Mark and Jean Boeding of Columbus; 21 grandchildren; a sister, Alma Brungardt of Independence, Mo.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Ambrose and Louisa Boeding of Placerville, Calif., Raymond Boeding of Los Angeles and Francis and Betty Boeding of Kansas City, Mo.; and a brother-in-law, Richard Melchior of Kansas City, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his wife; two sons, David and Luke; a brother, Greg; and a sister, Mary Ann Melchior.
Hallie Grotelueschen
ALBION -- Hallie E. Grotelueschen, the infant daughter of Mark and Mary (Vondruska) Grotelueschen, was stillborn Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at Boone County Hospital in Albion.
Services will be private for the family at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Schuyler cemetery in Schuyler. The Rev. Ralph Steffensmeier will officiate.
Survivors include her parents; her grandfather, James Vondruska of Schuyler; grandparents, Allen and Betty Grotelueschen of Richland; and great-grandparents, Leo and Mildred McNally of Schuyler.
Carl Rasmussen
NORTH LOUP -- Carl C. Rasmussen Jr., 75, of North Loup, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. Inurnment will be in Hillside cemetery in North Loup.
Memorials are suggested to the North Loup Community Building through the Harmony Extension Club or the North Loup-Scotia Rescue Unit.
Mr. Rasmussen was born April 21, 1926, at Rockville to Carl Sr. and Marie (Keldsen) Rasmussen. He grew up in the Rockville area and attended District 12 School and Rockville Public School. He graduated from Loup City High School in 1944. He then farmed with his parents in the Rockville area.
In 1949, he and his parents moved to a farm in the North Loup area. He lived there and farmed with his parents until they died, by which time he was retired. He continued to live on the farm.
He was affiliated with the Scotia Baptist Church and enjoyed raising purebred shorthorn cattle.
Survivors include a nephew, Densel Rasmussen of Grand Island and a niece and her husband, Cindy and Tom Zimmer of Norfolk.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Lyle.
Vern Malolepszy
LINCOLN -- Vern D. Malolepszy, 81, of Lincoln, formerly of Grand Island, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lincoln. The Rev. Myron Pleskac will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Park.
Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home in Lincoln.
Memorials are suggested to the church or Madonna Foundation.
Mr. Malolepszy was a former Grand Island resident and was employed at the Nebraska State Employment Office. He was the former executive director of the Nebraska Division of Employment, Department of Labor. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post No. 3.
Survivors include his wife, Winona; daughter and son-in-law, Jeannie and Tom Moderow of Omaha; and two grandchildren.
Roland Dietrich
PERRIS, Calif. -- Roland F. Dietrich, 74, of Perris, Calif., died Friday, Oct. 5, 2001.
Services were held in Perris. His body was cremated.
Mr. Dietrich was born April 9, 1927, to Henry and Anna Marie (Koehler) Dietrich. He attended Grand Island Public Schools and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1945. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945 and was discharged in 1948.
He worked for Sears in San Diego for 20 years. He attended San Jose State College and received his bachelor of science degree in education. He had his own maintenance business until his health failed.
Survivors include his wife, Beryl; a daughter, Brenda; and two brothers, John and William, both of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry, Alex and Adolph; and a sister, Amelia Benzel.
Margaret Medbery
GREELEY, Colo. -- Margaret M. Medbery, 82, of Greeley, Colo. died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at the Life Care Center of Greeley.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Adamson Memorial West Chapel. Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Greeley.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
Mrs. Medbery was born Oct. 6, 1919, in Wood River to Thomas and Cecilia (Hust) Buck.
She married
Roy H. Medbery Sept. 24, 1936, in Greeley, Neb. The couple lived in numerous places while he worked for the railroad. They lived in the Keota/Grover area from 1955 to 1965 before moving to Sterling. In 1994, they moved to Greeley, Colo., to the Greeley Place, Garden Square Westlake and then to the Life Care Center.
Survivors include her husband; six sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Shirley and Harold and Carol, all of Greeley, Colo., Ray and Joan of Trapper's Creek, Alaska, Dale of Ashland, N.H., Frank and Lori of Arvada, Colo., and Roger and Jan of Sterling, Colo.; one daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie and George Kaepernik of Newberg, Ore.; two brothers, Ken Buck and Clarence Buck, both of Grand Island; 14 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, five brothers and one sister.
