'Ray' Filges
Raymond "Ray" F. Filges, 87, of Grand Island died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at Western Hall County Good Samaritan Center in Wood River.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the chapel of Curran Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be in the Parkview cemetery in Hastings with a committal service at 11:30 a.m. Military rites will be provided by Ft. Riley Kansas Color Guard.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Curran Funeral Chapel with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings or the family's choice.
Richard Schwartz
Richard G. Schwartz, 86, of Grand Island, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Jack Eske will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family or Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Mildred Olson
BROKEN BOW -- Mildred H. Olson, 85, of Broken Bow died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at Elms Health Care Center in Ponca after a brief struggle with brain cancer.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Berean Fundamental Church in Broken Bow. The Revs. Steve Hicks and Bob Winn will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary with the family greeting friends from 5 to 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 6 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. (Anderson) Olson was born Dec. 25, 1915, in the Dutchman Valley of Custer County to Carl and Opal (Hatfield) Rapp. She grew up in the Dutchman Valley Community and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1933.
She married
Leonard L. Anderson on March 24, 1937. They moved to Dutchman Valley in 1938 where they operated a dairy farm until his death in 1972. She worked for many years as an insurance clerk at Jennie Melham Memorial Medical Center before her retirement.
She married
Irvin Olson in 1982. He died in 1992.
She was a member of the Evangelical Free Church and the Berean Fundamentals Churches in Broken Bow.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, C.J. and Rozan Anderson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter and son-in-law, Karma and Jerry Thomas of Newcastle; a sister and brother-in-law, Ione and Jim Devolt of Merna; 18 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a stepbrother, Wayne Smith; a stepsister, Thelma Smith; both of her husbands; and a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Leland Fox.
Marcy L'Heureux Schmitz
HASTINGS -- Marcy L'Heureux Schmitz, 76, of Hastings, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church. The Rev. Andrew Menke will officiate. Burial will be in Parkview cemetery in Hastings.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Memorials are suggested to Hastings Catholic Schools Trust.
Mrs. L'Heureux Schmitz was born Jan. 5, 1925, at Campbell to Emlle and Anna (Brouillette) L'Heureux. She moved with her family from Hildreth to Hastings in 1939. She graduated from St. Cecilia's Catholic High School in 1943.
She married
Ray Schmitz on Feb. 8, 1947. She worked at Ray's Restaurant and Lounge. Her husband died Feb. 6, 1989.
She was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church and Altar Society.
Survivors include a daughter, Rae A. Schmitz of Scottsbluff; a son, Eric Schmitz of Hastings; a grandchild; and a sister, Annette Yetman, Hastings.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, LaVern L'Heureux.
'Gen' Barr
OMAHA -- Mary "Gen" Barr, 79, of Omaha, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at Mercy Cade Center in Omaha.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Christ the King Church in Omaha. The Rev. James J. Bartak will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery in Omaha.
Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Heafy-Heafy-Hoffman-Dworak-Cutler West Center Chapel with a rosary at 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to St. Mary's Cathedral Capital Campaign Fund in Grand Island.
Mrs. Barr was born Dec. 1, 1921, at St. Joseph, Mo., to Thomas V. and Gertrude (Crotty) Morin.
She married
Dale F. Barr Sr. She worked as a cashier at K-Mart in Omaha. Her husband died Sept. 8, 1996.
Survivors include four sons and three daughters-in-law, Dale F. Barr Jr. of Omaha, William J. and Nancy Barr of Clinton, N.J., Thomas V. and Delia Barr of Dallas and Robert K. and Debbie Barr of Omaha; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Rita R. Pickering of Papillion, Betty M. and Greg Slayden of Omaha and Mary K. and Kevin Black of Elkhorn; 25 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and her twin sister, Gertrude Kruse of Seattle.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Conrad Campbell
OMAHA -- Conrad M. Campbell, 74, of Omaha died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Boyd Braman Mortuary in Omaha. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Grand Island.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the service.
He was retired from Union Pacific.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Campbell; three daughters, Kristi Koopmeiners of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Karen Mohn of Dow City, Iowa, and Kathryn Danielson of Des Moines, Iowa; a brother, Clarence Campbell of North Platte; and four sisters, Carol Knuth, Joanne Smith, Phyllis Campbell and Shirley McKinley, all of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Campbell and his first wife, Velva Campbell.
Marie Johnson
MINDEN -- Marie J. Johnson, 68, of Minden died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at the Kearney County Health Service Hospital shortly after being admitted.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Minden. The Rev. Donald Becker will officiate. Burial will be in the Minden Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. at Layton Funeral Home in Minden.
Memorials are suggested to Minden Volunteer Fire Department, Minden Senior Citizen Center or St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Minden.
Mrs. Johnson was born Dec. 3, 1932, at Hastings to Joseph and Lorraine (Goulding) Dittrick. She graduated from Minden High School in 1951.
She married
Leroy Johnson Oct. 28, 1951, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Minden. The couple lived in Minden. She graduated from nursing school in 1975 as a registered nurse. She cared for many patients and their families while she worked as an intensive care nurse as Kearney's Good Samaritan Hospital. Later she worked as the head of the nursing staff at the Bethany Home in Minden and then as a charge nurse at the Mother Hull Nursing Home in Kearney. She retired from nursing in 1996.
She was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Minden. She enjoyed sewing and reading.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Mark Johnson of Lexington; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Ann and John Macrander of Kearney, Mary Swenson of Grand Island and Penny and Delwin Hodgin of Lincoln; seven grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Shirley and LaVern Holsten of Minden, Ruth Albers of Franklin and Mary and Melt Galliart of Grand Island; and a brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Marilyn Dittrick of Kenesaw.
