Agnes Bydalek
LOUP CITY -- Agnes B. Bydalek, 101, of Loup City died Friday, June 22, 2001, at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Rev. Reginald A. Urban will officiate. Burials will be in the St. Francis Catholic cemetery in Ashton.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Peters Funeral Home of Loup City is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Bydalek was born April 18, 1900, in Sherman County near Ashton to Frank and Mary (Lubash) Maciejewski. She attended Sherman County Rural District 6 School and St. Francis Parochial School in Ashton. Upon completing her education, she worked in a grocery store in Rockville.
She married
Sylvester Bydalek on June 9, 1918, at Ashton. The couple farmed their entire married
life southeast of Ashton. Mr. Bydalek died Dec. 9, 1970. She moved into Loup City in 1971. On Dec. 14, 1987, she moved to Westside Park in Loup City, where she lived until October 2000, when she moved to Wedgewood Care Center.
She was a member of St. Josaphat's Catholic Church and its Council of Catholic Women.
She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, cooking and entertaining.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Ernest and Leona Bydalek of Grand Island; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Evelyn McCord of Lincoln.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Arnild Bydalek; one brother, Dominic Maciejewski; and two sisters, Anna Erlwine and Katherine Slobaszewski.
'Annie' Davis
18 months
CENTRAL CITY -- Shalonda Marie Ann "Annie" Davis, 18 months old, of Central City died Friday, June 22, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Kleine Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Island with the Rev. Gilbert Larsen officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon to service time Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Francis Pediatrics Unit or to the family.
Shalonda was born Oct. 22, 1999, in Grand Island. She lived with the Urban family since birth. She enjoyed music and being read to. She also enjoyed being held by her family, especially sleeping in the rocking chair with her Uncle Art. Due to fragile health, her brothers and sister were involved in her daily care.
Survivors include her parents, Thomas and Dawn Urban of Central City; brothers and sister, Jeremy, Holly, CJ and Jacob; grandparents, Neal and Shirley Garwood of Atkinson; and great-grandmother, Laura Garwood of Burwell.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Art and June Urban.
Emily Jacobsen
Homemaker, 90
ST. PAUL -- Emily M. Jacobsen, 90, of St. Paul, died Friday, June 22, 2001, at Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Michael McDermott will officiate. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. at Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday with a 7 p.m. vigil service at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mrs. Jacobsen was born March 14, 1911, on the family farm near Farwell to Louis and Anna (Sawicki) Janc. She attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel parochial school in Paplin and was raised in the area.
She married
Dale Jacobsen on June 17, 1929, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elba. The couple first farmed west of Wolbach and later moved into Wolbach.
In the early 1940s the family moved to Scotia, and in 1943 they moved to St. Paul. She worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant in Grand Island. In 1979, the couple moved to Grand Island where they owned and operated the Shamrock Motel and Campgrounds.
Mr. Jacobsen died on July 17, 1987. She continued to live in Grand Island until May 1998 when she moved to Parkside Plaza in St. Paul. In April 2001, she entered Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.
She enjoyed sewing, cooking and caring for others.
She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and its Council of Catholic Women. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court No. 1253 of Grand Island.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Sandy Jacobsen of Littleton, Colo.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Elaine Harvey of St. Paul and Faye and Wally Loeb of Laurel; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Louis D. Jacobsen and three brothers, Hubert, Edmund and Raymond Janc.
Clayton Morey
83, Insurance, real estate agent
MINDEN -- Clayton J. Morey, 83, of Minden died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at the Bethany Home in Minden.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Minden. Dr. Bill Hunter will officiate. Burial will be in the Minden Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Layton Funeral Home in Minden.
Memorials are suggested to the Minden Opera House, Methodist Church of Minden or the Minden Christmas Pageant Fund.
Mr. Morey was born Nov. 25, 1917, in Bladen to James and Josie (Grandstaff) Morey. He grew up in the Bladen area and graduated from Bladen High School in 1936. He graduated from Kearney State College in 1940.
He married
Elizabeth "Betty" Harrington on Aug. 29, 1940.
He taught school in Bertrand and Curtis and was a principal in the Minden Public School System.
He was a co-author of the Minden Christmas Pageant, which he began writing in the summer of 1946 for something special to use for the annual Christmas lighting on the courthouse. The pageant continues as a tradition throughout the area and the state of Nebraska.
He entered the insurance business in 1944 and by 1946 had purchased the FF Rogers Insurance Agency. He obtained his real estate brokers license the same year and continued in the business until his son Ben bought the agency from him in 1983. He remained at the office and eventually retired several years later due to poor health.
He was a member of a number of insurance boards, both on the local and state level. He was one of the original eight founders of the Kearney State College Foundation and the president for two consecutive terms.
He was selected Outstanding Alumni at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, Paul Harris Fellow through Rotary, past board member and past president of the Minden school board during the construction of the C.L. Jones Middle School, selected as Man of the Year by the Minden Chamber of Commerce in 1948 and had been selected as Man of the Year by the South Platte Chamber of Commerce.
He had directed and produced more than 50 plays in the Minden area, was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 127 in Minden and past Worshipful Master and member of the United Methodist Church in Minden.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Trudi Morey of Encino, Calif., and Ben and Linda Morey of Minden; five grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Don.
Ora Crouch
ANSELMO -- Ora W. Crouch, 78, of Anselmo died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at his home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with the Rev. Don Schauda officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Anselmo EMTs.
Mr. Crouch was born Sept. 21, 1922, to William Oliver and Florence May (Anderson) Crouch on a farm east of New Helena. He attended school in Anselmo and at Hoosier Valley. He worked for his parents on their ranch west of Anselmo, in Hoosier Valley. During World War II, he worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot near Hastings.
He married
Sarah Shaw on Dec. 23, 1945, at the Christian Church in Anselmo. The couple lived in the Merna and Anselmo area. He drove a truck, farmed near Arnold and operated heavy equipment for both a private contractor and for the county roads department. He was a contract mail carrier for 44 years out of the Anselmo Post Office. During the course of his career, he also owned and managed various businesses in Anselmo including the pool hall, a gas station and working for Farmers Co-op. He also did custom haying.
He was a member of the Anselmo Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife; three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Cindy Crouch of St. Paul, James and Mary Crouch of Anselmo and Marvin and Judy Crouch of Kearney; three daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Tim Connealy of Liberty, Mo., Barbara and Myron Mason of Anselmo and Carla and James Stark of Broken Bow; one sister and brother-in-law, Mavis and Richard Dunker of Lakewood, Colo.; 18 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Pauline Merklin.
