Marion Boyton
THE DALLES, Ore. -- Marion Boyton, 80, of The Dalles, Ore., died Sunday, June 5, 2001.
Memorial services were June 6 at Faith Lutheran Church in The Dalles with the Revs. Raymond Nelson and Lawrence Locke officiating. Burial was in the Moro Community cemetery in Moro, Ore.
Mrs. Boyton was born Sept. 4, 1920, near Chapman to Frank and Olga (Muhs) Seim. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Worms. She graduated from Grand Island in 1937. After graduation, she went to St. Louis, Mo., and attended the Lutheran School of Nursing, graduating as a registered nurse. She enlisted in the United States Army in the medical detachment at Portland Army Air Base during World War II. There she met her husband, Bob.
The couple was married
on Oct. 20, 1944, at Army Base Chapel. They were discharged from the Army after the war was over. They lived on a farm near Moro, Ore. Mr. Boyton died July 30, 1996. In 1998, she moved to The Dalles, where she was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, the American Cancer Society of Sherman County and the Sherman County Historical Society.
She enjoyed yard work, needlepoint and visiting with friends in care homes.
Survivors include her son, Robert of Portland, Ore.; two daughters, Suzzane of The Dalles, Ore., and Cydney of Hillsboro, Ore.; and six grandchildren.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Helen, one brother, Wayne and an infant daughter.
Stanley Owen
80, Retired carpenter
LITTLETON, Colo. -- Stanley R. Owen, 80, of Littleton, Colo., died Feb. 9, 2001, at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. June 30 at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell with the Rev. Scott Harvey officiating. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic cemetery in Ord.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to Burwell Legion Post 298.
Mr. Owen was born May 1, 1920, in Burwell to Thomas and Anna (Shulz) Owen.
He married
Lillian Meese in 1949 in Burwell. He worked as a carpenter before relocating to Littleton, Colo., in 1955. He continued to work in construction, was a member of Carpenter and Millwrights Union No. 1068, retiring in 1982. His wife of 46 years died in 1995.
Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Genser of Sedalia, Colo.; one son, Thomas of Littleton, Colo.; one grandchild; two sons from a previous marriage, Stan and Steve Owen, both of Rockford, Ill.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Leah White and Norma Leach of Burwell; and one brother, Ellis of Burwell.
He was preceded in death by his wife, three brothers and three sisters.
Thora Juel
Thora J. Juel, 91, of Grand Island died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at her home in Grand Island.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Del Roper will officiate.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the Grand Island Retired Teachers Association.
Mrs. Juel was born March 23, 1909, in Howard County to John and Mathea (Iversen) Rasmussen. She grew up in Howard County and graduated from St. Paul High School. She furthered her education at Kearney State Teachers College in Kearney, Long Beach and San Diego State Colleges in California. She received her bachelor of arts degree and did additional graduate work.
She married
Edward Juel on Aug. 29, 1933, in Omaha. The couple lived in Farwell; Glendale, Calif.; Omaha and Colorado Springs, Colo. The greater part of her life was spent in Nebraska. She was a teacher in the Grand Island School system for 17 years and a substitute teacher for many years thereafter. Mr. Juel died in 1963, and she continued to live in Grand Island. She retired in 1974.
She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist and the Retired Teachers Association of Grand Island.
Survivors include one son, Jack Juel of Little Rock, Ark.; two grandsons; and two sisters, Karen Becker of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Vesta Cook of Grand Island.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.
Todd Muirhead
Todd W. Muirhead, 60, of Grand Island died of lung cancer Thursday, March 15, 2001, at St. Francis Skilled Care Center.
Prayer services were at the hospital at the time of his death.
There will be no visitation. Mr. Muirhead was cremated. A family gathering with scattering of ashes will take place at a later date.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Muirhead was born on Feb. 28, 1941, to Harry and Olga (Giesenhagen) Muirhead. He grew up and attended schools in Ord and Grand Island.
He served four years in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. He worked in construction, did route work and had been employed at Skagway South.
He married
Mary A. Steinbach on Oct. 20, 1972.
He was a member of the Izaak Walton League and the American Legion Club. His hobbies included spending time with his grandchildren, playing cards with family, fishing, hunting, playing pool and wood crafts.
Mr. Muirhead donated his eyes to the Lions Eye Bank.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; one daughter, Angela (Mrs. Adam) Castaneda of Grand Island; one son, Michael Muirhead of Grand Island; one daughter-in-law, Sunni Muirhead of Grand Island, who was a caregiver; five grandchildren; three brothers, Rob Muirhead of Grand Island and Allan and Jerry Muirhead, both of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and one sister, Patricia Muirhead of Oklahoma City, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ron.
'Al' Panec
Albert "Al" E. Panec, 66, of Grand Island died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Faith United Methodist Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Richard Karohl will officiate. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Monday at the DuBois cemetery in DuBois.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday with family greeting friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island.
Memorials are suggested to either Faith United Methodist Church or to the family.
Mr. Panec was born July 5, 1934, at Pawnee City to Albert and Thelma (Sebring) Panec. He was raised in DuBois and was educated in Pawnee City where he graduated from high school in 1950.
He married
Mildred L. Shinn on June 6, 1954, at DuBois. On April 5, 1955, he entered the U.S. Navy. He worked as airborne electronics technician and was honorably discharged on April 4, 1961.
He attended York College; Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa; William and Mary; M.I.T. in electrical engineering and Central Nebraska Tech. Following the military, he graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1965.
They later lived in Grand Island where he was employed as news director for KGIN-TV for 25 years. He retired in 1986 because of health problems.
He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, the Grand Island Sertoma Club serving as Gold Coat President and District Governor, the American Legion, Board of Directors of the YMCA for seven years receiving family of the year in 1970, local organizer of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, member of the Overland Trails Council for the Boy Scouts for 10 years and the Grand Island Rifle Club.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, camping and photography.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Albert R. Panec of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and William "Bill" J. Panec of Ogallala; one daughter, Dawn Panec of Grand Island; seven grandchildren; and two brothers, William J. Panec of Fairbury and Kenneth Panec of Auburn.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Dale Gewecke
WOOD RIVER -- Dale L. Gewecke, 79, of Wood River died Friday, March 16, 2001, at Western Hall County Good Samaritan Center in Wood River.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Grand Island.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Wood River Rescue Unit or the Western Hall County Good Samaritan Center.
