Lilas Slagle
SARGENT -- Lilas C. Slagle, 90, of Sargent died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at the Sargent Nursing Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent. The Rev. Don Schauda will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery in Sargent.
Visitation was Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mrs. Slagle was born Sept. 15, 1910, near Comstock to Frank and Adra (Ducker) Hale. She attended school and graduated from Comstock.
On August 5, 1934, she married
Raymond Slagle in Burwell. They spent their entire married
life around the Sargent and Comstock area. She worked at different cafes, the school cafeteria and the Sargent Hospital kitchen. They also managed the Sale Barn Cafe for several years. In 1992, she suffered a stroke and has been a resident at Beverly Health Care Center every since.
She enjoyed making paper butterflies and did most of the folding of clothes at the nursing center.
She was affiliated with the Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Margie (Mrs. Allen) Clark of Sargent; three grandchildren; one foster grandson; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Raymond Hale of Sargent.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Nettie Apperson, Faye Smith, Beulah Morse and Kathleen Kazarin.
Robert Sixel
SCOTIA -- Robert J. Sixel, 53, of Scotia died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the North Loup-Scotia High School Gymnasium. The Revs. Mark Middendorf and Paul Kern will officiate. Private family services will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in Scotia. Burial will be in the Mount Hope cemetery in Scotia.
There will be no visitation.
Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
'Fred' Boelts Jr.
MESA, Ariz. -- Hubert "Fred" Boelts Jr., 56, of Mesa, Ariz., died Feb. 13, 2001, at Desert Samaritan Hospital in Mesa.
Services were Feb. 19 at the Community Christian Church in Yuma, Ariz. The Rev. Doug McCallister officiated. Burial was in Desert Lawn Memorial Park cemetery of Yuma.
A memorial scholarship fund is being established in memory of Mr. Boelts and his wife, Becky.
Mr. Boelts was born Oct. 3, 1944, at Palmer to Hubert "Hube" and Esther (Nagel) Boelts. He attended Gardner School District 23, graduated from Central City High School in 1962, and graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a degree in agronomy in 1964.
He married
Rebecca "Becky" Trendle on Sept. 4, 1965, in Fullerton. The couple farmed near Central City. He then began working for the National Farmers Organization in several communities before relocating to Corning, Iowa. In 1972, the family returned to Archer, where they farmed until 1986. They then moved to Yuma, where he pursued a career as a produce ranch manager. Mrs. Boelts died Aug. 30, 1998. He moved in 1999 to Mesa, to begin work on his technical computer credentials at Mesa Community College and worked as an MCI WorldCOM technical advisor.
He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 476 of Yuma.
Survivors include one daughter, Heidi (Mrs. Wiley) Allgood of New Baden, Ill.; two sons, Robert Boelts and John Boelts, both of Yuma; six grandchildren; one brother, Norman Boelts of Fairbanks, Alaska; and one sister, Gail Cool of Casper, Wyo.
Other than his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Catherine.
Harvey Sorensen
ASHTON, Idaho -- Harvey A. Sorensen, 85, of Ashton, Idaho, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at Idaho Falls Care Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Ashton Community United Methodist Church. The family will meet with friends at the church for one hour prior to services. Burial with military rites will be in the Pineview cemetery in Ashton.
Bidwell Funeral Home of St. Anthony is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the VFW Post 11015 and to the Ashton Community United Methodist Church.
Mr. Sorensen was born Feb. 8, 1916, at Hordville to John Jorgen and Metto Marie (Andersen) Sorensen. His mother died when he was 18 months old. His Aunt Laura and Uncle Tunis raised him until he turned 10; at that time, he moved home to live with his father and stepmother, Esther. He worked on the family farm until he joined the Army Air Corps during World War II. He served in the Pacific, mainly in and around the Philippines, as a tech sergeant. After the war ended, he returned to Lincoln where he met his future wife.
He married
his wife, Lois, on Aug. 24, 1947, at Lincoln in the home of Walter and Julia Randall. After they were married, they moved to Ashton, Idaho, where he spent many years as a farmer and dairyman. He retired after his wife died in September 1983.
He was active in the VFW, American Legion, Ashton Volunteer Fire Department and was a volunteer for the Senior Citizens. He loved being in his home in Ashton and continued his love of farming with his yard and flower garden. He loved having friends and family visit and enjoyed telling stories about his love and respect for his country. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Larry and Jerry Sorensen; one daughter, Kathy (Mrs. Bill) Stephens; eight grandchildren; one brother, Ervin Sorensen; and one sister, Joan (Mrs. Don) Hanson.
Vera Wigstone
Vera M. Wigstone, 86, of Grand Island died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jim Keyser will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
Mrs. Wigstone was born June 16, 1914, to Alfred L. and Mary M. (Florke) Mader at Grand Island. She grew up and was educated in Grand Island.
She married
Carl L. Wigstone on Nov. 26, 1937, in Grand Island. They lived in Grand Island. She was a court reporter for five years. In 1960, she began working for Mayer and Burns as a legal secretary, retiring in 1983 after 25 years. Mr. Wigstone died in 1987, and she continued to live in Grand Island.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was a charter member of the Grand Island Legal Secretaries Association.
Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Parker of Grand Island and Mary K. Opp of Alda; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, E.A. Mader.
Betty Costello
GREELEY -- Betty Costello, 58, of Greeley died Friday, April 27, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Greeley Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Gerald Carlson will officiate. Burial will be in the O'Conner Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday with rosaries at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the church.
Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Medical Center.

Norma Hansen
STROMSBURG -- Norma L. Hansen, 83, of Stromsburg died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Midwest Covenant Home Chapel. The Rev. Ron Kunz will officiate. Burial will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg.
Viola Mottl
ORD -- Viola Mottl, 83, of Ord died Friday, April 27, 2001, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Ord First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Michael Chase will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Bohemian Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ord Memorial chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Ord First Presbyterian Church or the Valley County Nursing Home.
