Dorothy Larson
CENTRAL CITY -- Dorothy M. Larson, 75, of Central City died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at her home.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Central City. The Rev. Brad Rick will officiate. Burial will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City.
Mrs. Larson was born on Aug. 24, 1925, near Battle Creek to Arthur and Helen (Brase) Rodekohr. She grew up on a farm near Battle Creek and attended parochial school there. She graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1943. She completed college at Wayne State College in only three years and graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in education.
She taught for two years in Ponca, and while she was there she directed a one-act play that won first place at a county contest. She also taught sixth grade in Norfolk for four years.
She married
Donald C. Larson on July 6, 1952, in Battle Creek. The couple farmed north of Meadow Grove until 1958. They then moved to Loup City where Mr. Larson worked for the Soil Conservation Service. In 1963, they moved to Central City.
Mrs. Larson was a homemaker and an active volunteer. From 1960 to 1975 she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and directed Christmas Eve programs.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and LWML. She enjoyed making photo albums and playing with her grandchildren and the neighbor children.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Glenn of Henderson, Dale of Garland, Texas, and Wayne of Des Moines, Iowa; two daughters, Ann (Mrs. Murray) Ostberg of Omaha and Helen (Mrs. Gary) Krichau of Omaha; 14 grandchildren; one brother, John David Rodekohr of Battle Creek; and six sisters, Marjory (Mrs. Wayne) Tegeler of Meadow Grove, Helen Wagner of Santa Fe, N.M., Artie (Mrs. Russell) Summerlin of Tucker, Ga., Annette (Mrs. Melvin) Miller of Battle Creek, Marcy Lee (Mrs. Jim) Bartee of Norfolk and Joan (Mrs. Jerry) Freudenburg of Peoria, Ill.
Leo Mroczek
LOUP CITY -- Leo M. Mroczek, 96, of Loup City died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Rose Lane Home in Loup City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Revs. Reginald A. Urban and Stanley Gorak will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery at Loup City.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday at Peters Funeral Home in Loup City and will continue from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service and Knights of Columbus rosary.
Memorials are suggested to the church or Rose Lane Home.
Mr. Mroczek was born March 22, 1905, on a farm near Tarnov to Michael and Sophia (Barnas) Mroczek. As a child, he moved with his family to Sherman County where he attended St. Francis Parochial School in Ashton and District 56 School.
He married
Clementine M. Kowalski on Sept. 27, 1932, at Loup City. The couple farmed in Sherman County until 1961 when they moved to a farm in the Myra Valley of Valley County. In March 1983, they retired and moved into Loup City.
Mrs. Mroczek died Jan. 3, 1990, and he continued to live in his home until May 1999 when he moved to Rose Lane Home.
He enjoyed playing cards and attending sales.
He was a member of St. Josaphat's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council No. 5455, both of Loup City, and was a former District 52 school board member.
Survivors include three sons, LaVern of Loup City, Tom of York and Mroczek of Alma; three daughters, Marian (Mrs. Jim) Palu of Loup City, Patricia (Mrs. Don) Arnold of Ord and Janice (Mrs. Greg) Jelden of Axtell; 28 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Catherine Kuszak of Loup City.
Other than his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Ray; one grandson; two brothers, Alex and William; and one sister, Anna Mroczek.
Marguerite Roberts
ALBION -- Marguerite Roberts, 84, of Albion, died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the United Church of Christ in Albion. The Rev. Mary Avidano will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Albion.
Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Delbert Rounds
CAIRO -- Delbert L. Rounds, 82, of Cairo died Friday, April 27, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Cairo United Methodist Church. The Rev. Alan Davis will officiate. Burial will be in the Wood River Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Apfel Funeral Home in Cairo.
Elsie Wagner
ST. PAUL -- Elsie Wagner, 89, of St. Paul died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Karl Ziegler will officiate. Private inurnment will be at a later date in the Chapman cemetery in Chapman.
There will be no visitation. Mrs. Wagner was cremated.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Wagner was born Feb. 6, 1912, on the family farm three miles west of Chapman to Louis and Marie (Wiesener) Klingenberg. She attended District 29 School in Merrick County and was a 1930 graduate of Chapman High School. She moved to Cheyenne, Wyo., where she worked during World War II. She returned to Grand Island and worked at Jones Walgreen Drug Store.
She married
Robert E. Wagner on Sept. 20, 1947, at Grand Island. The couple lived in numerous places while Mr. Wagner served in the U.S. Air Force. Upon his retirement from the military in 1966, the couple lived in Chapman until 1980 when they moved to a farm southeast of St. Paul. In 1995, she entered the Heritage Living Center.
She enjoyed flower gardening and watching television. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, David; two sisters, Florence Tyler and an infant sister; and four brothers, Edward, Robert, Roscoe and Hans Klingenberg.
Donna Johnston
DUNNING -- Donna J. Johnston, 66, of Dunning died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anselm's Catholic Church in Anselmo. The Rev. Mark Maresh will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday with a Christian wake and rosary service at 7:30 p.m. at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow.
Mrs. Johnston was born Feb. 19, 1935, to Howard Lester and Jean Mary (Gilligan) Turner at Milburn. She attended grade school at Milburn and graduated from high school in 1952 at St. Agnes Academy in Alliance. During her senior year, she was voted homecoming queen. She earned her teaching certificate from Kearney State College. She taught school at the "Bell" school, Milburn, Brewster and the Miller-Heller school in Blaine County.
She married
Robert Johnston in June 1958 at St. Anselm's Church in Anselmo. They lived on ranches in Blaine County until moving to Dunning. The couple worked together to acquire and raise their own cattle. She worked summers at the National Forest at Halsey for nearly 30 years.
She was a member of St. Anselm's Catholic Church in Anselmo. She enjoyed her church and family. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed her flowers. She also liked country music, football and rodeos. The last years of her life, she was afflicted with Alzheimer's disease.
Survivors include her husband and one brother, Howard C. "Sonny" Turner of Arnold.
Alfred Starostka
COLUMBUS -- Alfred A. Starostka, 85, of Columbus died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Columbus Manor in Columbus
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at McKown Funeral Home. The Rev. John Starostka will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn cemetery in Columbus.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at McKown Funeral Home. A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Starostka was born Nov. 28, 1915, to John and Mary (Czarnick) Starostka at Silver Creek. He attended in Merrick County rural schools.
He married
Lee Johnson-Conger on May 4, 1963, in Madison.
He worked for more than 22 years at Husker Steel as a welder until his retirement in 1980.
He was a member of the Eagles Aerie No. 1834 in Columbus where he worked bingo. He enjoyed gardening and fishing in Minnesota.
Survivors include his wife; a brother, the Rev. John of Omaha; two sisters, Helen Kula of Columbus and Virginia (Mrs. Ray) Paczosa of Silver Creek; a stepson, Larry Conger of LeMars, Iowa; a stepdaughter, Connie (Mrs. Ronald) Falk of Columbus; and four step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Alfred Jr., and a brother, Joseph.
