Rosemary Rolf
ALBION -- Rosemary Rolf, 72, of Albion died Monday, March 26, 2001, at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Albion. The Rev. Frank Baumert will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion and after 7 p.m. at the church with a 7:30 p.m. wake service. Visitation will continue from 12:30 p.m. until service time Thursday at the church.
Mrs. Rolf was born March 7, 1929, in Primrose, to Frank and Mary (Clark) Kraus. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Primrose. She attended Albion Public Schools and graduated from Albion High School in 1948.
She married
Dean Rolf on Jan. 26, 1949, in Albion. The couple lived and farmed southwest of Albion most of their lives.
She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and Altar Society, Korner Quilters and C.E.C.
Survivors include two sons, Chuck of Albion and Allan of Spalding; three daughters, Linda Inman and Cindy Leifeld, both of Albion and Carol Wurdeman of St. Edward; 14 grandchildren; one sister, Patricia Boyd of Baltimore; and one brother, Frank Kraus of Albion.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother and one great-granddaughter.
Melvin Swanson
HASTINGS -- Melvin Burdette Swanson, 93, of Hastings died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at Perkins Pavilion, Good Samaritan Village in Hastings.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings, with the Rev. Kathleen Kasper officiating. Burial will be in the Parkview cemetery in Hastings.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday with family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday all at the Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings and also one hour prior to service time Friday at the church.
Mr. Swanson was born March 25, 1908, in Ong to Henry G. and Mary (Nelson) Swanson. He was baptized in the Stockham Lutheran Church in Shickley in 1908, and was confirmed on April 29, 1923, at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Ong. He graduated from Ong High School in 1926.
He farmed until 1942 in the Ong-Edgar area. On Sept. 17, 1942, he enlisted in the United States Navy and attended Store Keeper School in Toledo, Ohio. He received many awards, including Asiatic Pacific Area, Philippines Liberation Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American ARE, Point System and Victory Medal W.W. II. He was honorably discharged Feb. 4, 1946, as Store Keeper First Class.
He married
Seatta (Hornbacher) Wenz on May 26, 1946, in Sutton. They lived in Davenport, where he was employed at Davenport Implement Company more than nine years. In 1955, they moved to Hastings, where he worked for Fred Spady Motors for seven years and the Big G General Supply for 12 years. He retired in 1974. He moved to The Kensington in 1996. In July 2000, he moved to Perkins Pavilion.
He enjoyed music and cards.
He was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, past member of Chorus of the Plains, 16 year member of the Golden Age Entertainers Band of the Good Samaritan Village, playing drums, U.T.C., AARP, and American Legion as marker for the deceased Veterans Office.
Survivors include his wife; one stepdaughter, Carol Ann (Mrs. Ray) Wall of Kearney; two step grandsons; three brothers, Chester of Edgar, Reuben of Oakland and Alvin of Denver; and one sister, Lorene (Mrs. John) Hope of Grandview, Mo.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
Ruth Zuerlein
ALBION -- Ruth M. Zuerlein, 96, of Albion, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, March 26, 2001, at Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Ralph Steffensmeier will officiate. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Levander Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids with a 3 p.m. rosary and 7 p.m. wake service.
Mrs. Zuerlein was born May 5, 1904, southwest of Cedar Rapids to Erastus and Luella L. (Baker) Williams. She attended a country elementary school and Cedar Rapids High School.
She married
Victor J. Zuerlein on Nov. 9, 1921, in Albion. She was a practical nurse and worked as Dr. Reeder's office nurse and as a home nurse. From 1934 until 1940, the couple lived in Primrose and then moved back to Cedar Rapids.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Primrose, St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids and the Altar Society.
Survivors include three daughters, Margaret Swerczek of Cedar Rapids, Betty Wilhelm of Eagle and Gereldene Scanlon of Marion, Iowa; one son, Robert of Kearney; 34 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Gilbert, one granddaughter and one great-grandson.
Melvin Brammer
YORK -- Melvin Brammer, 85, of York, formerly of Omaha and Rockwell, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, in York.
Services were March 24 at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Omaha. Burial was in the Hillcrest cemetery in Omaha with full military honors.
West Center Chapel of Omaha was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Brammer was a World War II Army Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his three nieces, Sandy (Mrs. Tom) Czaplewski, Peggy (Mrs. Bob) Whaley and Mary Ann Masek; two nephews, Johnny and Bernard Fisher; and special friend, Thelma.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; and his sister, Marie Garner.
James Hart
JOHNSON LAKE -- James M. Hart, 56, of Johnson Lake died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at the Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home Chapel in Lexington with the Rev. Don Buhrman officiating.
There will be no visitation. Mr. Hart was cremated.
Memorials are suggested to the Johnson Lake EMS or the Elwood EMS.
'Rich' Roan
LINCOLN -- Richard "Rich" B. Roan, 35, of Lincoln died Sunday, March 25, 2001, following an automobile accident near York.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Ralph Steffensmeier will officiate. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church with wake services at 7 p.m.
Mr. Roan was born Aug. 22, 1965, in Pensacola, Fla., to Richard "Dick" Lee and LaVonne Jae (Ewing) Roan. He was baptized in Pensacola and confirmed in Hawaii. He received his elementary education in Pensacola; Fort Mead, Md.; Fairfax, Va.; San Diego; and Hawaii. He graduated from Cedar Rapids High School in 1983.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy August 1983 and served aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise until his discharge in 1986. He served in the Navy Reserves until 1989.
He married
Laura Willis on Dec. 29, 1990, in York. The couple renewed their vows on July 3, 1992, in Cedar Rapids. He worked at the Cedar Rapids Locker and later studied for and received his journeyman license. Following his divorce, he worked as an electrician in Cedar Rapids, Omaha and Lincoln. He worked in Lincoln since that time.
Survivors include his father; two daughters, Amy Marie and Amanda LaVonne of Cedar Rapids; two sons, David Ryan and Daniel of Cedar Rapids; one granddaughter; and one sister, Katrina Hjermstad of Papillion.
He was preceded in death by one brother, David Roan.
Kathryn Wallace
COZAD -- Kathryn Wallace, 83, of Cozad died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Parkview United Methodist Church in Cozad with the Rev. Jim Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Cozad Cemetery.
Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.
Memorials are suggested to Parkview United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Wallace was born on Dec. 24, 1917, at Benedict to John and Elizabeth (George) Volzke. She graduated from Beaver Crossing High School.
On Oct. 12, 1940, she married
George Wallace at Aurora. The couple lived in the Custer County area before moving to Cozad in 1956.
She was a member of the Parkview United Methodist Church, where she was active in church work. She was a former member of the Rebekah Lodge and B.P.O. Does.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Georgina (Mrs. Larry) Lehmann of Minden; one son, John of Grand Island; two sisters, Evelyn (Mrs. Harold) Hunkins of Ansley and Vera Mae (Mrs. Les) Horn of McCook; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
