Benito Casares Sr.
Benito R. Casares Sr., 85, of Grand Island died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. Jose Chavez will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday with a 7 p.m. parish rosary at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to St. Mary's Cathedral Parish Center Building Fund.
Mr. Casares was born March 22, 1916, at Cotulla, Texas, to Donaciano and Santos (Ramos) Casares. He grew up and attended school in Cotulla. He worked on farms in Texas and in the Scottsbluff area.
On Oct. 25, 1939, he married
Ofelia Roman at Laredo, Texas. They moved to Grand Island in 1953, where he was self-employed in the lawn maintenance business and as a contractor in concrete construction.
He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral parish and a former member of the Grand Island Latin Club.
He enjoyed dancing, hunting and was a Dodgers baseball fan.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Don, Benito Jr. and Carpio Casares, all of Grand Island; five daughters, Sylvia Lazarin, Chonita Lade, Thelma Cruz, Rose Martinez, all of Grand Island, and Sandra Patton of Equality, Ill.; 46 grandchildren; and 102 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Policarpio Casares; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Veda Ashman
BURWELL -- Veda Ashman, 90, of Burwell died Friday, April 13, 2001, at Westwood Place in Watertown, Minn.
Maresh Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Irene Furse
AURORA -- Irene Furse, 92, of Aurora died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Aurora. The Rev. Monty Nelson will officiate. Burial will be at the Aurora Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Higby Mortuary.
Mrs. Furse was born on Jan. 19, 1909, in Republic, Kan., to Walter H. and Mildred (King) Polley. She grew up in Republic and graduated from high school there. After high school, she worked at the local drug store and at her father's grocery store.
She married
Ronald R. Furse on June 27, 1936, at Omaha. She assisted her husband in newspaper operations in Republic, Kan., Clay Center, Sutton and Plattsmouth before moving to Aurora in 1965, where her husband was co-publisher of the Aurora News-Register with their son, R.L. "Butch." Her husband, R.R., died on March 7, 1972.
She was a member of the Presbyterian United Congregational Church and Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She also belonged to the Aurora Women's Club, where she was past president, and Aurora Chapter No. 93, Order of Eastern Star, where she was a 50-year member and the Daughter of Nile.
Survivors include one son, R.L. "Butch" of Aurora; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Agnes Kjome of Decorah, Iowa.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by one grandson.
'Larry' Keber
SPALDING -- Lawrence E. "Larry" Keber, 86, of Spalding died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at Friendship Villa in Spalding.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding. The Rev. Joe Hannappel will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Michael's Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at the church with rosaries at 4:30 and 8 p.m.

Kimberly Meier
DONIPHAN -- Kimberly J. Meier, 43, of rural Doniphan died Friday, April 13, 2001, at her home.
Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
'Rusty' Reichstein
WOOD RIVER -- Dwight "Rusty" Reichstein, 78, of Wood River, died Wednesday April 11, 2001, at Western Hall County Good Samaritan Center in Wood River.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Wood River. The Rev. John McKinley will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in the Oscoe cemetery near Campbell.
Memorials are suggested to Good Samaritan Center in Wood River or to the family.
Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Reichstein was born May 13, 1922, at Bladen to Charles and Grace (Rakestraw) Reichstein. He grew up in Bladen and graduated from Bladen High School in 1941. He joined the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Decker. He was discharged in October 1945.
He married
Mildred Boom in December 1943, and they lived in Muscatine, Iowa. He worked at Hutting Millworks and then at Muscatine High School as a custodian until he retired in 1987.
He moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Wood River in February 2000.
Mr. Reichstein was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Eagles. He enjoyed life and loved sulky racing with his father as a child. He also enjoyed bowling and Nebraska football.
He is survived by three daughters, Patty DeBraal of Wood River, Pam Sicken of Muscatine and Beccy Hurlbut of Davenport, Iowa; three brothers, Charles "Bud" Reichstein of Bladen, Clifford Reichstein of Beatrice and Marvin Reichstein of Dixon, Calif.; two sisters, Darlene Smith of Yuma, Ariz., and Maxine Mizzell of Charleston, S.C.; eight grandchildren; four step grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and special friend Margret Bremel.
Betty Wyant
AURORA -- Betty Wyant, 72, of Aurora died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Aurora with the Rev. Joe Scahill officiating. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Higby Mortuary.
Mrs. Wyant was born on May 15, 1928, in Exeter to Alvin and Eva (Green) Delaney. She spent her childhood in Exeter, and then moved with her family and graduated from Lincoln High School in Lincoln.
She married
Lloyd "Lew" Wyant on May 15, 1947, at Lincoln. The couple lived on a farm northwest of Aurora. She worked at the hospital, several cafes and the flower shop during her lifetime in Aurora. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 15, 1997. Mr. Wyant died on March 1, 1998.
Mrs. Wyant was a member of the United Methodist Church and the V.F.W. Auxiliary, where she was past president.
Survivors include her son, Lew of Omaha; two grandchildren; one brother, Dick Delaney of Haines City, Fla.; and one half brother, Roy Delaney of Lincoln.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Justin Clark
WISNER -- Justin Lawrence Clark, 19, of Wisner died Friday, April 6, 2001, in an automobile accident.
Services were Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wisner with the Rev. Jeff Zyla officiating. Burial was in the Stanton Cemetery.
Kuzelka-Minnick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Clark was born Jan. 16, 1982, at Columbus to Ralph and Karen (Rohloff) Clark. He attended Pender Public School and graduated from Wisner-Pilger High School in 2000. He was attending Northeast Community College in Norfolk studying auto mechanics.
He enjoyed sports and working on automobiles.
Survivors include his mother and seven brothers and sisters, Jason Rohloff of McLean, Kandy, Kari, Kristy, Kasey, Karlee and Jesse, all at home.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jeremy and Joshua.
His father also was killed in the automobile accident.
