Pauline (Armour) Nelsen
BROKEN BOW -- Pauline M. (Armour) Nelsen, 94, of Broken Bow died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. The Rev. Don Schauda will officiate. Burial will be in Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to Berean Fundamental Church in Broken Bow and Alzheimer's Association.
Mrs. Nelsen was born Aug. 28, 1907, at Medora, Ill., to John and Mamie (Loper) Armour. At the age of 20 months, her family moved to Custer County. She attended various country schools.
She married
LeRoy A. Nelsen on Jan. 15, 1926, in Weissert. The couple farmed near Westerville and later Berwyn for several years. In 1947, they moved to Saunders County where they farmed. They retired in 1969 and moved to Broken Bow. Her husband died Aug. 19, 1989. She had been a resident of Sandhills Manor Nursing Home for the few years.
She was a member of Berean Fundamental Church in Broken Bow. She enjoyed playing piano, flowers, fancy work, cooking for her family and playing games with her family.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Opal and Leo Griebel of Milburn and Ione and Ernest Taylor of Huntsville, Ala.; four sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Gerry Nelsen of Gillette, Wyo., Dean and Joyce Nelsen of Douglasville, Ga., Eldon and Patricia Nelsen of Ayr, and Lyle and Mary Nelsen of San Jose, Calif.; a brother, Thad Armour of Broken Bow; a sister, Avis and Alfred Crouch of Santa Monica, Calif.; 22 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers, a sister, an infant sister, Ada, and two grandchildren.
Myron Osterberg
KEARNEY -- Myron L. Osterberg, 75, of Kearney died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Evangelical Free Church in Kearney. The Revs. Douglas Langmade and Vernon Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in Kearney cemetery with military rites conducted by VFW 759 and American Legion Post 52 of Kearney.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home in Kearney.
Memorials are suggested to the church, Friends of Music at University of Nebraska at Kearney or Kearney Habitat for Humanity.
Mr. Osterberg was born Nov. 13, 1926, at Salem, S.D., to Levi and Myrtle (Lindell) Osterberg. He grew up in Salem and graduated from Salem High School in 1944. He joined the U.S. Navy on Oct. 28, 1944, and served in World War II. He was honorably discharged on July 27, 1946. While in the U.S. Navy, he was a member of the Blue Jacket Choir. After his discharge, he attended Dakota Wesleyan and Illinois Wesleyan universities.
He married
Eva Spencer on Nov. 21, 1948, in Mitchell, S.D. He taught music at Newell, S.D., from 1951 to 1952. He then taught at Wessington Springs High School and Junior College until 1957. He directed the Wessington Springs Barbershop Chorus and Methodist Church Choir. He received his master's degree and doctorate of education from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley and directed Covenant Church Choir in Greeley. After moving to Kearney in 1963, he taught music at Kearney State College until 1992. He also was the director of First Christian Church Choir in Kearney until 1982.
He was a member of VFW Post 759 and American Legion Post 52. He served on Kearney American Legion and VFW Honor Guards and was a past member of Kearney Area Barbershoppers. He attended Kearney Evangelical Free Church and sang in its choir.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael of Kearney; three daughters, Mary Osterberg and Betty Hilligas of Kearney and Judy Carver of Bellevue; five grandchildren; two brothers, Harland Osterberg of Salem, S.D., and Ertis Osterberg of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and two sisters, Virjean Kirby of Spencer, S.D., and Bonadel Anderson of Wilmar, Minn.
He was preceded in death by a brother and an infant daughter.
Esther Rasmussen
ST. PAUL -- Esther Rasmussen, 73, of St. Paul died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at her home on the family farm north of St. Paul.
Services are pending at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Nellie Schroeder
CENTRAL CITY -- Nellie M. Schroeder, 83, lifetime resident of Central City died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at Long Term Care in Central City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Solt Funeral Home chapel in Central City. The Rev. Dean Entrekin will officiate. Burial will be in Central City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Long Term Care.
Mrs. Schroeder was born June 19, 1918, at Central City to Frank and Anna (Franssen) Weeks. She attended District 8 School in Merrick County. She worked at the Omaha Cold Storage in Central City and also at the Grand Island Ammunitions Plant.
She marred Harold C. Schroeder on Jan. 12, 1948, in Central City. She was a homemaker and lived in Central City all of her life. Her husband died May 13, 1974. She went to live at Long Term Care in October 1999.
Survivors include two stepsons, Phillip and David Schroeder and a stepdaughter, Katherine Foren, all of Washington; and a sister, Julia Gronewald of Central City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers, William, Harold and Howard Weeks and Leo Maaik and a sister, Frances Weeks.
Bernice Steele
CENTRAL CITY -- Bernice M. Steele, 94, of Central City died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City. Mike Booth will officiate. Burial will be at a later date.
There will be no visitation. Her body was cremated.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Steele was born Oct. 27, 1907, in Clay County to Adam and Dorothea (Wahl) Burbach. She grew up in Stockham and Sutton, graduating from Sutton in 1925.
She married
Francis Steele on Feb. 1, 1938, in Los Angeles, Calif. The couple lived in Los Angeles and then Aurora, later retiring in Yucaipa, Calif., in 1979. Her husband died June 22, 1991, and she moved back to Bader Villa in Central City in 1994.
She was a member of Valley Lutheran Church in North Hollywood, Calif., and attended United Presbyterian Church in Central City. She enjoyed needlework, traveling and spending time with her family.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Gary Clayton of Central City and Michaela and Wayne Nelson of Fresno, Calif., and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Rueben and Paul Burbach.
Forrest Wagner
PHOENIX, ARIZ. -- Forrest Lee Wagner, 79, formerly of Central City and Grand Island, died Jan. 19, 2002, at the Veterans Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 30 at Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel Inc. in Beatrice. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery in Beatrice.
Mr. Wagner was born Nov. 22, 1922, in Beatrice to John Howard and Esther (Wolken) Wagner. Soon after, the family moved to Central City where he attended school and graduated from high school.
He received a bachelor's degree in history from Nebraska Central College. He enlisted in the Army in WWII and while in the service attended Grinnell College and the City College of New York in the ASTP program.
After his discharge from the Army, he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Nebraska. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He did graduate work at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
He became a credit manager and then salesman for Baker Manufacturing, based in Omaha, for a number of years.
He was a lifelong Methodist.
Survivors include a sister, Beatrice Kaye Wagner of Tarzana, Calif.; and a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Gloria of Phoenix, Ariz.
Angel Hamilton
Angel K. Hamilton, 10, of Grand Island died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, in Grand Island.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Resurrection Catholic Church with the Rev. James C. Schmitt officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Resurrection Catholic Church with a rosary at 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island is in charge of arrangements.
Angel was born Aug. 24, 1991, in Grand Island. She is the daughter of James and Susan Hamilton of Grand Island. She was a fourth-grader at Engleman Elementary School.
Angel enjoyed being around her classmates and her friends at Bethpage. She enjoyed music, swimming, walks and family.
Survivors include her parents of Grand Island; four sisters, Sarah, Brittany, Maria and Taylor; two brothers, Christopher and Jacob and grandparents Kenneth and Alvesa Hamilton of St. Paul, Nola Clark of Grand Island, Charles J. Clark of Alda, and numerous extended family members.
