Russell Rose
80, Transport Driver
Russell B. Rose, 80, of Ord, died Thursday, May 17, 2001, at his home in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ord. The Revs. Larry Handland and Jim Keller will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Ord Volunteer Fire Department or the Bethany Lutheran Church.
Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Rose was born Dec. 15, 1919, to Reinhold and Laura (Miller) Rose on the family farm between Arcadia and Comstock. He attended rural school in Valley County and was a 1939 graduate of Ord High School.
He married
Luella Mae Jones in Grand Island. The couple lived in Ord all their married
lives.
He worked at his father's gas station during his high school years. He also worked at COOP driving a tank wagon. In the early 1940s, he began driving a transport. In 1981, he retired from COOP and from driving the transport.
He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Ord Elks Lodge 2371, Ord Fire Department and Ord Golf Course.
He enjoyed collecting coins, golf and working on the farm.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Robert Rose of Minden, Nev.; one daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and Bob Knapp of Ord; one brother, Boyd Rose of Riverside, Calif.; one sister, Loreen Barnes of Greeley; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one great-granddaughter; and two brothers, Milo and Ron.
Walter Hansen
DAVID CITY -- Walter Hansen, 90, of David City, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, May 20 at David City Place in David City.
Services are pending with Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton.
Joseph Warta
SUMNER -- Joseph Warta, 77, of Sumner, died Saturday, May 19, 2001, at Mt. Carmel Home in Kearney.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Sumner. The Rev. Joe Harder will officiate. Burial will be in the Sumner Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at the O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home in Kearney.
Memorials are suggested to the Cozad area Hospice or the First Baptist Church in Sumner.
'Clem' Fleming
80, Pipe line supervisor
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Ellsworth "Clem" Fleming, 80, of Sioux Falls, S.D., died Friday, May 18, 2001, at Beverly Healthcare Covington Heights in Sioux Falls.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church in Sioux Falls. Burial will be at Woodlawn cemetery in Sioux Falls.
Visitation will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at George Boom Funeral Home with family present to greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m.
Mr. Fleming was born Sept. 14, 1920, in Kendall, Kan., to Raymond and Clarissa (Kemp) Fleming. He attended school in Kansas and Marion, Iowa.
He served in the Army Air Corps for five and a half years in the European Theatre during World War II. Following his honorable discharge he attended the University of Iowa.
He married
Dorothy Jean Yoder in Iowa City, Iowa, on Aug. 28, 1948. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1949. The couple lived in Iowa for several years. In 1963, they moved to Sioux Falls. He retired from Williams Pipe Line as an area supervisor after 32 years of service. The couple moved to Brandon, S.D., in 1986. He later returned to Sioux Falls.
He was an active member of First Christian Church, where he had served as an elder. He also was a member of BPO Elks Lodge 262 and served on the Brandon City Council.
Survivors include his two daughters and son-in-laws, Julie and Doug Lunstra of Sioux Falls and Kathryn and Mike Meyer of Effingham, Ill.; one grandson; two granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Ruth Clark and Dollie Garrison, both of Marion, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Jean, on Jan. 23 1990.
Beulah Howell
ALBION -- Beulah V. Howell, 91, of Albion died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001 at the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Home in Albion.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Loreto United Methodist Church in Albion. The Rev. Terry Otto will officiate. Burial will be in the Akron cemetery in rural Albion.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Levander Funeral Home in Albion with Eastern Star Services at 7:30 p.m.
Robert Main
AURORA -- Robert Eugene Main, 71, of Aurora died Saturday, December 8, 2001, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.
Memorial services will be at 10: a.m. Tuesday at the Chapel of Higby Mortuary in Aurora. The Rev. Jim Garfield will officiate.
Mr. Main was born March 12, 1930, to Leo V. and Florence Main in Sayre, Pa. He was raised in Pennsylvania, where he graduated from high school.
He trained to be a state trooper and served the State of Pennsylvania for several years.
In 1957, he trained to drive semi-trucks. He drove across the country from coast to coast until 1989, when health problems forced him to retire.
Mr. Main married
Alice Sands.
He later married
Lexia May Sparkman on April 1, 1992, in Provo, Utah.
He was preceded in death by two sons, an infant and Robert E. Main Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Lexia of Aurora; children Shawn of Aurora, Paula Kadel of Henderson, Iowa, Mark Main of Atlantic, Iowa, Bruce Main of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Jill Main of LouAnn, Ark., Linda Hayes and Cheryl Jordan of San Antonio, Marsha Byrd of Smac Over, Ark., Kailin Main of Phillips, Debbie Fulton of Oakland, Iowa, Robert L. Main of Port Allegany, Pa., John Huffman of Panama City, Fla., Tom Huffman of Grand Island, Sharon and Dianne; 35 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Vera Taylor
BURWELL -- Vera Evelyn Taylor, 78, of Burwell died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001 at her home in Burwell.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church in Burwell. The Rev. Rolly Salts will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood cemetery in Burwell.
Visitation will be Monday at Hitchcock Funeral Home.
Edith Goebel
FRANKLIN -- Edith Goebel, 89, of Franklin died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001 at her daughter Marjorie Springer's home in Kansas City, Mo.
Funeral Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Christian Fellowship Evangelical Free Church in Franklin, with the Rev. David Johnson officiating. Interment will be in the Greenwood cemetery of Franklin.
Visitation will be at the Christian Fellowship Evangelical Free Church from 11a.m. until services.
Memorials are suggested to the church.

Mrs. Goebel was born March 26, 1912, to Louis Ameil and Anna May (Minnick) Zade in Smith County, Kan. She grew up and attended rural school near Thornburg, Kansas.
She married
to George Henry Goebel on Jan. 1, 1932. She worked a number of years as a nurse, part of that time in Kansas City, Missouri.
She enjoyed her family, church and the town of Franklin.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Everett and Patricia Goebel of Hastings; a daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie and Norman Springer of Kansas City, Mo.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Wilbert Zade of Franklin and Carl Zade of California.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one grandson.
