Fred Flesner
REPUBLICAN CITY -- Fred R. Flesner, 73, of Republican City, formerly of Kearney, died Monday, June 7, 1999, at the Harlan County Hospital in Alma.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney. The Rev. Stan Murdoch will officiate. Burial will follow at the Ft. McPherson National cemetery at Maxwell with military rites at the grave by The Naponee American Legion Post No. 364 and the Kearney American Legion Post No. 52.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday and prior to services on Friday at the Horner-Liske-Horner Mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the family for designation at a later date.
Mr. Flesner was born Dec. 15, 1925, at the home of his parents, to Riepke G. and Gazina A. (Eilers) Flesner. He grew up and attended school in the Wilcox area.
He entered the U.S. Army in 1944 and served during World War II. While in the service he fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
He married
Phyllis Schulz on Aug. 11, 1951 at Morrison, Colo. They lived in Kearney and he worked for Ray Nelson, transporting cars, then Leo Brennan moving houses and then was a truck driver for Brown Transfer from 1961 until retiring in 1987. They moved to Republican City in 1985 where they have since lived.
Mr. Flesner was a member of the Naponee American Legion Hicks-Siegel Post No. 364 and past member of the Grand Island Elks Lodge, Kearney V.F.W. Post No. 759 the 40 & 8 and past member and commander of the Kearney American Legion Post No. 52.
He enjoyed music, dancing and outdoor sports.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Terry of Macon; two daughters, Janis Riley of Franklin and Arvenia Weaver of Duncan; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harry of Kearney and John of Minden; and four sisters, Bena Tissen of Grant, Rosa Marie Borton of Denver, Marie Hoffmanm of Clear Lake Oaks, Calif. and Angelina Fisher of Denver.
He was preceded in death by an infant son; two grandchildren; three brothers and one sister.
Polly Pekarek
FRANKLIN -- Polly Ann Pekarek, 31, of Franklin died Sunday, June 6, 1999, at University Hospital in Omaha.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Farwell. The Revs. Larry Coulter and Richard Piontkowski will officiate. Burial will be at St. Ann's cemetery at Farwell.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday with a Memorial Vigil Service. The Rev. James Schrader will officiate.
Mrs. Pekarek was born Aug. 14, 1967, in Grand Island to David and Bunny Gorecki.
She attended rural school in the Loup City area, graduated from Litchfield High School in 1986 and graduated from Kearney State College in 1990.
On Oct. 26, 1991, she married
James Pekarek in Farwell. Mrs. Pekarek was a Spanish teacher and taught at Neligh-Oakdale High School. From 1992 until March of 1999, she taught Spanish at Franklin High School.
She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church at Campbell.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Matthew of Franklin; parents, David and Bunny Gorecki of Farwell; three brothers, Tom Gorecki of Scotia, Marc Gorecki of North Loup and John Gorecki of Ravenna; and five sisters, Deb Clifford of Hays Center, Jan Gorecki and Jean Gorecki, both of Kearney, Theresa Krolikowski of Dannebrog and Marie Wilkenson of Culbertson.
Joseph Snow
LIVE OAK, Texas -- Joseph L. Snow, 59, of Live Oak, Texas, died Sunday, June 6, 1999.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fort Sam Houston National cemetery with full military honors.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Snow is survived by his wife and his mother, Eunice McMilan.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Grover Foxworthy.
Claire Daugherty
GREELEY -- Claire Daugherty, 80, of Greeley died Sunday, May 6, 2001.
A memorial mass will be in Greeley with burial in the Sacred Heart cemetery at a later date.
T.J. Finn and Sons Mortuary of Greeley is in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Daugherty was born on Nov. 18, 1920, to Mr. and Mrs. John Creighton Daugherty.
Survivors include one brother, John of Juneau, Alaska, and Los Osos, Calif.; and one sister, Mary Disque of Dallas, Texas.
Ella Hutchison
85, Insurance Supervisor
DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. -- Ella M. Hutchison, 85, of Downers Grove, Ill., formerly of Central City, died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Fairview Baptist Home in Downers Grove.
Services were Sunday at the Hallowell & James Funeral Home in Downers Grove. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Rose Hill cemetery in Palmer with the Rev. Cliff Reynolds officiating.
Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Association.
Palmer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hutchison was born on August 1, 1915, in Palmer to Andrew and Anna (Lundberg) Moberg.
She married
Ray Hutchison. She lived in Central City from 1972 to 1993. She was employed as a supervisor for Continental Insurance.
Survivors include two daughters, Gail (Mrs. Richard) Sutis of Naperville, Ill., and Lynne (Mrs. Chester) Gottwald of Westmont, Ill.; and one grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Maxine Wilson
SPOKANE, Wash. -- Maxine G. Wilson, 73, of Spokane, Wash. died Monday, April 30, 2001.
Services were May 4 at Hazen & Jaeger Valley Funeral Home in Spokane.
Mrs. Wilson was born Oct. 10, 1927, in St. Libory. She had lived in Spokane, Wash., for the past 35 years.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, John A. Wilson; three sons, Greg of Spokane, Wash., Thomas of Silverdale, Wash., and Todd of Renton, Wash.; one daughter, Julie Shinall of Tualatin, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; and two sisters, Elaine Wissing of Grand Island and Lorna Helzer of Souderton, Pa.
Leo Roby
Leo H. Roby, 85, of Grand Island died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at the St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Roby was born July 24, 1916, at Grand Island to Bernhardt and Minnie (Wiese) Roby. He attended District 3 and District 4 schools in Hall County.
He married
Bessie Thesenvitz on April 2, 1941, in Grand Island. The couple farmed southwest of Grand Island. He was employed at the Sugar Beet Factory, the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant and then retired from the roads department of the State of Nebraska.
He enjoyed farming, fishing, going to rodeos and listening to Polka music. He was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church and the Platt-Duetsche.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Sondra and Larry Berney of Grand Island; two sons and daughters-in-law, Leon and Judy Roby of Alda and Rick and Julie Roby of Grand Island; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and two sisters, Irene Spiehs and Elaine Boldt, both of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1998 and one daughter, Cheryl Roby.
