Clinton Rork
Clinton D. Rork, 18, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at his home following a brief illness.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island. The Rev. Tom Ryan will officiate.
There will be no visitation. His body was cremated.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Clinton was born Sept. 23, 1983, at Grand Island to Darrell and Jean (Manning) Rork. He attended Jefferson Elementary, Chapman Grade School, Walnut Middle School and was currently attending Grand Island Senior High School.
He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, baseball, basketball, weight lifting and animals.
Survivors include his parents; a sister, Angela R. Rork of Grand Island; and grandparents, Darrell and Monica Rork of Grand Island and Ann Wieman of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jack and Beverly Manning.
Harold Vanduvall
Harold Vanduvall, 97, of Grand Island died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at Grand Island Veterans Home.
Services are pending with All Faiths Funeral Home.
Christol Cramer
POLK -- Christol Mae Cramer, 91, of Polk died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.
Services are pending with Solt Funeral Home in Polk.
Winifred Humphrey
BROKEN BOW -- Winifred A. Humphrey, 80, of Broken Bow died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Govier Brothers Mortuary chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Grant Agler will officiate. Burial will be in Cliff cemetery west of Merna.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Humphrey was born Feb. 9, 1922, at Texhoma, Texas, to Homer and Beatrice (Gorman) Fleming. She was a 1940 graduate of Texhoma High School.
She married
Dean Humphrey on June 5, 1945, in San Diego. They had recently moved to Broken Bow to be near their daughter.
Survivors include her husband; a son and daughter-in-law, George and Alene Humphrey of Norris, Tenn.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Andie and Darrell Schmidt of Merna and Deana and Jim Agler of Parson, Kan.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Arlene Boothby of Texhoma, Okla.
Ruth Urwin
ORD -- Ruth M. (Page) Urwin, 90, of Ord died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ord Christian Church. The Rev. Michael Chase will officiate. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at Central City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the church or American Diabetes Association.
Mrs. Urwin was born Sept. 9, 1908, at home in Ashland, Ill., to Freeman and Bertha (Pieper) Spears. She was raised in Ashland where she attended school and graduated from high school.
She married
Merle Page on Jan. 2, 1926, in St. Louis. The couple lived in Ashland, Ill. In 1938, they moved to Wisconsin, living there for four years before returning to Ashland. They then moved to Merrick County near Clarks. Her husband worked as a herdsman. In 1945, they returned to Ashland for two years before moving to the Valley County area. They lived there for three years before returning to Merrick County. Her husband died Dec. 25, 1963.
She married
George Urwin on June 7, 1969. The couple lived in Merrick County. Her husband died June 28, 1975. She moved to Ord in 1980 and became a resident at the Valley County Nursing Home in May 1996.
She was a member of Ord Christian Church. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and reading.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Marvin Collins of Ord; eight grandchildren; a step grandchild; 13 great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, two sons, Asahel and Kenneth Spears and a sister, Elizabeth Surratt.
Patrick Wagoner
WOOD RIVER -- Patrick Wagoner, 26, of Wood River, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wood River. The Rev. Paul Colling will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery in Wood River.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday with a 7:30 p.m. prayer vigil at the Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River.
Memorials are suggested to the Wood River Foundation or to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Mr. Wagoner was born March 2, 1975, at Grand Island to Dennis and Jane (Olin) Wagoner. He spent his entire life in Wood River. He attended special education program at Grand Island and Wood River public schools.
He enjoyed swimming and music.
Survivors include his parents; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Darren and Kristen Wagoner of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and First Lt. Shawn Wagoner of Fort Hood, Texas; a sister, Deanna Wagoner of Lawrence, Kan., and grandmothers Cecelia Wagoner of Wood River and Goldie Olin of Spencer.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Thomas Wagoner and Mandus Olin.
Nancy Beck
COLUMBUS -- Nancy A. Beck, 51, of Columbus died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Highland Park Evangelical Free Church in Columbus. The Rev. Mike Neely will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery near Bellwood.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Beck was born Sept. 28, 1950, at Columbus to LeRoy and Ellen (Brockman) Poeffel. When she was 15, she worked as a nurses aid at St. Mary's Hospital. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1968.
She married
Eugene Beck on Jan. 4, 1969, in Columbus. She continued her education at Central Community College Platte Campus, graduating in 1971 with her nursing degree. She then graduated Summa Cum Laude and received Sigma Tau National Nursing Society Honors with her bachelors degree in 1992 from Midland Lutheran College. She was currently working towards her masters degree. She had worked as RN Director of Nursing at Osceola Good Samaritan Center and Director of Nursing at St. Joseph Villa in David City. She was currently employed at Midland Lutheran College in Fremont as a clinical instructor in the nursing department.
She was a member of Nebraska Foster Care Review Board. She was a lifetime resident of Columbus and was a member of Highland Park Evangelical Free Church in Columbus.
Survivors include her husband; her mother of Rockport, Texas; two daughters and a son-in-law, Amy and Dave Mazankowski of Columbus and Erin Beck of Denver; two grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Duane and Chris Poeffel of Columbus; and a sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Tom Smith of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Norman Johnson
PLATTSMOUTH -- Norman D. Johnson, 82, of Plattsmouth died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Masonic Home in Plattsmouth.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in Bassett. The Rev. Mary Jensen will officiate. Burial will be in Grand View cemetery in Long Pine with Masonic Rites provided by Lodge 136 and military rites provided by American Legion Post 260 and VFW Post 5128.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Masonic Home in Plattsmouth, United Methodist Church in Long Pine and Shriners Cripples Children's Hospital in Minneapolis.
Mr. Johnson was born Dec. 29, 1919, at Auburn. He was adopted by John and Hattie (Lund) Johnson. He grew up and was educated in Newman Grove. When he was young, he helped his family by going to Illinois to pick corn.
He married
Wanda Arnold in 1941. The couple lived in Long Pine. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II. After his discharge, he returned to Long Pine and worked for L.O. Shaneyfelt Lumberyard and feed store for 26 years.
He later married
Dora Neubauer on June 24, 1954, in Brewster. The couple lived in Long Pine. In 1972, they bought the feed store which they owned and managed until December 1999. He was also Brown County Deputy Sheriff for about 40 years. On Oct. 11, 2000, he became a resident of the Masonic Home in Plattsmouth.
He was a member of United Methodist Church in Long Pine, Masonic Lodge 136 in Long Pine, Sandhills Shrine Club, American Legion Post 260 and VFW 5128. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, baseball and Husker football. As a teenager he played baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals and played with Dizzy Dean.
Survivors include his wife, Dora of Long Pine; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Karen Johnson of Arvada, Colo., Hardie and Margaret Johnson of Harrodsburg, Ky., and Glenn and Kristy Johnson of Ainsworth; four daughters and sons-in-law, Joanne and Ron Hall of Long Pine, Gwendolyn and Scott Stoll of Elwood, and Benita and Bob Hahn, and Lori and Dave Shipferling, all of Lincoln; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Edwin and Marie Johnson of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Larson and a sister, Lela Shaw.
