Monica Maslonka
FULLERTON -- Monica Maslonka, 93, of Fullerton died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at Genoa Community Hospital Long Term Care.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Peters Catholic Church in Fullerton. The Rev. Don Cleary will officiate. Burial will be in Fullerton Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton with a 7 p.m. vigil and rosary.
Mrs. Maslonka was born May 6, 1908, in Platte County to John and Catherine (Pytel) Gavlik. She attended Platte County country schools.
She married
Joseph S. Maslonka on Aug. 17, 1937, in St. Edward. The couple lived and farmed in Nance County. They moved to Fullerton in 1987. Her husband died Nov. 17, 1997.
She was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church and St. Ann's Altar Society. She enjoyed her family, crocheting and gardening.
Survivors include a son, Edwin J. Maslonka of Grand Island; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lucille and Norman Schemek, and Mary and Howard Smith, all of Columbus; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and three sisters, Mary Mostek and Josie Drog, both of Duncan, and Loretta Sokol of Louisville, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Alvin and Joe Gavlik.
Lee Reimers
BOELUS -- Lee H. Reimers, 76, of Boelus died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at the Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rockville. The Rev. Rod Pruss will officiate. Burial will be in Souleville cemetery near Boelus with military rites.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church with a 7 p.m. wake.
Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mr. Reimers was born Sept. 5, 1925, on the family farm near Boelus to Ferdinandt and Mary (Larson) Reimers. He grew up on the family farm. He attended school in Boelus and was a 1943 graduate of Boelus High School. He entered the U.S. Army in 1944 and was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. In April 1945, he was transferred to the 508th regiment. After his honorable discharge in 1946, he enlisted in the reserves, serving with the 320th Ordnance Battalion in Grand Island for three years.
He married
Phyllis Beran on May 26, 1951, at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The couple lived on a farm near Boelus. They were married
for more than 50 years.
He was a member of Schipman-Mogensen American Legion Post 201 in Boelus. He enjoyed spending time with his family, his farm and farming.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters and a son-in-law, Maxine Blackford of Boelus and Linda and David Reiser of Butte; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Jack and Audrey, Jerome and Mary Ellen, Leonard and Mary, Lynn and Lori, and Wayne, all of Boelus; 13 grandchildren; and a brother, Virgil of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, Gilbert and Glen, and a sister, Louise Petersen.
Edward Silver
ORD -- Edward Silver, 72, of Ord died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. The Rev. Bob Rooney will officiate. Burial will be in Ord Catholic cemetery with military rites provided by Ord VFW Post 7029 and Ord American Legion Post 38.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Ord Memorial Chapel with a 6 p.m. rosary.
Memorials are suggested to Leukemia Foundation or Ord Volunteer Fire Departments.
Mr. Silver was born Sept. 26, 1929, at Burwell to Joseph and Marie (Cech) Silver. As a child, his family lived in several places in the area. He was attended school in Burwell, Longwood School near Comstock and Sargent and was a 1946 graduate of Loup City High School. After graduation, he worked at various jobs including road construction and as a meat cutter in Loup City.
In 1951, he was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1953. During his service, he was awarded the Sharp Shooter Medal.
He married
Bernadine Augustyn on Oct. 25, 1955, at the Catholic Church in Elyria. The couple farmed by Elyria until 1994 when they retired and moved to Ord.
He was a lifetime member of VFW and a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and welding.
Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Roxi of Grand Island; two daughters and sons-in-law, Liz and Randy Powell of Elba and Karen and Steve Latter of Lexington; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Bessie Klanecky and Helen Smolik, and an infant brother, Teddy Silver.
Richard Gowlovech
REPUBLICAN CITY -- Richard G. Gowlovech, 62, of Republican City died on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002 at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island. The Revs. Tom Ryan and John Birkel will officiate. Burial will be in the Phillips Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a rosary service at 6 p.m., at Kleine Funeral Home in Grand Island
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Gowlovech was born on Sept. 16, 1939 in Grand Island to Edward and Laura (Wadkins) Gowlovech. He moved to Phillips with his family and was educated there.
He married
Beverly Kroeger on Aug. 1, 1959 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island. He served in the United States Marine Corp from 1961 until 1965. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Alma. He was employed by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers at the Republican City office. He and his wife lived on the north shore of Harlan County Reservoir where he enjoyed fishing and walking outdoors with his dog, Fudge.
Survivors include his wife; three sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Nancy Gowlovech of Wichita, Kan., John and Julie Gowlovech of Phoenix, and Jim and Jacy Gowlovech of Palmer; one daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Jon Davis of Alma; seven grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Barb Gowlovech of Grand Island and one sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Jon Luebs of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Elgin.
Lucille Schroeder
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- Lucille B. Schroeder, 77, of Bloomington, Minn., formerly of St. Libory, died Feb. 15, 2002.
Services were held Feb. 19 at Werness Brothers Bloomington Chapel in Bloomington, Minn. The Rev. Alan Naumann officiated. Private burial will be at a later date in Fergus Falls, Minn.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Schroeder was born May 12, 1924, at St. Libory to Henry and Hansina (Jensen) Brabander.
Survivors include three daughters, Sandi, Terri and Connie Lee; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Roy Brabander of Grand Island; and a special friend, Lou Coates.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, a grandchild, and two brothers, Louis and Clarence Brabander.
Lois Schreiber
79, Nurse
Lois L. Schreiber, 79, Grand Island died Friday, March 1, 2002, at her home in Grand Island.
Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday with a family prayer service at 2:15 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Revs. Martin Schmidt and Ronald Benson will officiate. Private family burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Schreiber was born Sept. 29, 1922, in Grand Island to Carl and Erna (Nitschke ) Scheffel. She grew up and attended school in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High School. After graduating, attended the St. Francis School of Nursing in Grand Island. She entered the U.S. Army as a registered nurse on May 1, 1945, and was discharged on Nov. 29, 1945.
She married
Charles J. Schreiber on Sept. 29, 1945, in Grand Island. The couple lived in Grand Island. She was a registered nurse with the Veterans Affairs Medical Center until she retired in 1987. Mr. Schreiber died Nov. 26, 1981.
She a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was baptized and confirmed. She also was a member of the altar guild at church.
Survivors include one daughter, Cheryl Schreiber of Kalamazoo, Mich.; two granddaughters, and one great-grandson.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Carl W. Scheffel.
