Donna Marie Holmes, 95, of Grand Island, died Saturday, March 2, 2002 at her home in Grand Island.
Services are pending with Kleine Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Hospice or Hall County Historical Society.
Steve Kapustka
ORD -- Steve C. Kapustka, 97, of Ord died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. The Rev. Robert Rooney will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Ord Memorial Chapel with a rosary service at 6 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Mary's School Endowment Fund.
Margaret Lightwine
AURORA -- Margaret Cleonne Lightwine, 64, of Aurora, died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at her home in Aurora.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Aurora. Dr. Joe Scahill will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora.
Mrs. Lightwine was born Dec. 19, 1937, in Missouri Valley, Iowa, to Felix and Freda (Thallas) Pollard. She grew up in Missouri Valley and graduated high school there in 1956.
She married
Donald Light-wine on Jan. 30, 1956, in Laverne, Minn. They moved to a farm near Pisgah, Iowa. During their marriage they lived in Missouri Valley, Iowa, Madison, Loveland, Colo., and Laurel before moving to Aurora in 1965.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She taught Sunday School and was a Cub Scout leader. She enjoyed raising flowers, picture framing and other crafts.
Survivors include her husband; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Beth Lightwine of Fairmont; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shelly and Craig Weedin of Aurora and Tammy and Gary Case of Oakland; one brother, Bill Jones of Tulsa, Okla.; and ten grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Delores Jones.
Bernard Shotkoski
79, World War II veteran
ARCADIA -- Bernard Shot-koski, 79, of Arcadia died Friday, March 1, 2002 at the Jennie Melham Memorial Hospital in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Rev. Reginald A. Urban will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery in Loup City. Graveside military honors will be provided by the Arcadia American Legion Post No. 251.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Higgins Funeral Home and continue at the church from 6 to 9 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service.
Memorials are suggested to the Arcadia Rescue Unit or St. Josaphat's Catholic Church.
Mr. Shotkoski was born April 14, 1922, in Cedar Rapids to Frank and Veronica (Kuta) Shotkoski. He graduated from high school in Loup City in 1940. He joined the Army Air Force in 1943 and served as a bombardier on a B-17 for 35 missions over Germany. He was discharged in 1945 and attended Kearney State College for three years.
He married
Mary Lee Pitt on Jan. 27, 1948, in Kearney. They spent 16 years farming and ranching before moving to Broken Bow in 1964, where he started the Shotkoski Hay Company. They moved to Lexington in 1974 and to Arcadia in 1980.
He was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church, a member of the Arcadia American Legion and the Loup City Knights of Columbus. He played football and boxed in high school and college.
Survivors include his wife; one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Linda Shotkoski of Lexington; one daughter and son-in-law, Bernardine Jo and Steve Taylor of Lincoln; three sisters, Rose Kowalski and Clara Krzycki, both of Loup City, and Florence Fattig of Grand Island; one brother, Alex Shotkoski of Loup City; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his infant twin sister, Bernadine; and two brothers, Edward and Arthur.
Dale Young
BROKEN BOW -- Dale H. Young, 89, of Broken Bow died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Lillian Church of Christ in Broken Bow. Burial will be in the Gates Cemetery.
Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow is in charge of arrangements.
Lester Kopecky
82, Farmer
NEWMAN GROVE -- Lester Kopecky, 82, of Newman Grove died Feb. 17, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services were held at the United Methodist Church in Newman Grove. The Rev. Susan Sanders officiated. Burial was in Hope cemetery in Newman Grove.
Mr. Kopecky was born Dec. 12, 1919, in Lindsay to Frank and Mary (Holcomb) Kopecky. He attended school and graduated from Newman Grove in 1936.
He served in World War II in the Navy and received his basic training in Moscow, Idaho, in radio school.
He married
Bernice Larsen on Dec. 1, 1944, in Perryville, Md. The couple farmed south of Lindsay and he retired in 1977.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Newman Grove and enjoyed Husker football and fishing.
Survivors include his wife; three sons and daughters-in-law, Lonnie and Marinel Kopecky of Grand Island, George and Sue Kopecky of Lindsay and Kenneth and Nancy Kopecky of Newman Grove; one daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Dave Hurt of Omaha; one brother, Albert Kopecky of Newman Grove; one sister, Ann Sawyer of Newman Grove; seven grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and one grandson.
LeRoy Nunnenkamp
89, retired Union Pacific Railroad
LeRoy Charles Nunnenkamp, 89, of Grand Island died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at St. Francis Skilled Care.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the All Faiths Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Karohl will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mr. Nunnenkamp was born March 5, 1912, at Guide Rock to Louis F. and Luella (Schenault) Nunnenkamp. He grew up and attended school in Guide Rock.
He married
Pauline Conley Oct. 23, 1935, in Sutherland. He started working for the Union Pacific Railroad on Nov. 8, 1948, and retired July 2, 1975. His wife died on Oct. 28, 1975.
He married
Maxine Luther on July 16, 1977, in Grand Island.
Later in life he sold cars.
He was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church and the Eagles Club in Grand Island. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching all sports, traveling in the motor home, playing cards and shooting pool.
Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Irene Nunnenkamp of North Platte; step-son and daughter-in-law, Don Jr. and Dawn Luther of Grand Island; two grandchildren the Nunnenkamps raised, Tony Berck of Kearney and Tammy Bush of Grand Island; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joye Berck; five sisters, Gladys, Opal, Margarite, Goldie and Alice; and one brother, Thomas.
Jean Quandt
Jean A. Quandt, 68, of rural Grand Island died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at her home following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Third City Christian Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate. Burial will be at the Wiegert cemetery northeast of Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the Third City Christian Church or St. Francis Hospice.
Mrs. Quandt was born Jan. 13, 1934, at Archer to Henry and Helen (Wegner) Barnholdt.
She received her education in Archer; Cheyenne, Wyo.; Brigham City, Utah; Lincoln and Central City, before graduating from Palmer High School in 1952.
She married
Ralph C. Quandt on Dec. 7, 1952, in Palmer.
Mrs. Quandt worked in the yard goods department at Five Points Skagway for six years. Because of her love of gardening, she worked for Roy Bauer and then for Barbara Quandt in their greenhouses. She retired in 1999.
She loved music, gardening, flowers, crocheting and canning garden produce. She enjoyed watching westerns and war movies on television.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph of Grand Island; a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Barb Quandt of Grand Island; two daughters and son-in-law, Laura and Don Hobbs of Grand Island and Kristine Marin of Glendale, Ariz.; a son-in-law, Greg Hupp of Grand Island; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; one great grandson; seven step-great grandchildren; two sisters and brother-in-law, Donna and Bud Brewer of Yuma, Ariz., and Phyllis Wilcox of Huron, Ohio; and a half-brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Suzanne Green of Wichita, Kan.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy J. Hupp.
