Edward Silver
ORD -- Edward Silver, 72, of Ord died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. The Rev. Bob Rooney will officiate. Burial will be in Ord Catholic cemetery with military rites provided by Ord VFW Post 7029 and Ord American Legion Post 38.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Ord Memorial Chapel with a 6 p.m. rosary.
Memorials are suggested to Leukemia Foundation or Ord Volunteer Fire Departments.
Philip George
COZAD -- Philip George, 84, of Cozad died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at American Lutheran Church in Cozad. The Rev. Bruce Berggren will officiate. Private burial will be in Greenwood cemetery in Lexington prior to services.
Memorial book signing will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.
Memorials have been established in his name.
Mr. George was born Sept. 21, 1917, at Gothenburg to Sam and Anna (Malik) George. He graduated from Lexington High School in 1935. He received his bachelor's degree from University of Nebraska at Lincoln and attended one year of law school. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in July 1942.
He married
Paula Haase on Dec. 21, 1942, in Jacksonville, Fla. During his military service, he was involved in battle action at Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe and North Africa. He was with a liberating force at one of the concentration camps in Germany. He received the Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal and American Defense Service Ribbon. Following his discharge, he returned to Cozad where he owned and operated a bar and later a package liquor store. He also operated a barber shop for several years. Hi wife died in 1998.
He was a member of American Lutheran Church, American Legion, VFW and Cozad Elks Lodge.
Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Peggy and Arlyn Montgomery of Papillion and Patsy George of Omaha; two grandchildren; a sister, Madeline Kress of Everett, Wash.; and four brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred of Cozad, Bill and Julie of Denton, Texas, Kenny and Mable of Columbus and Ted and Imogene of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his wife, an infant son, a sister, Frieda Scharfenberg, and four brothers, Dick, Eddie, Jim and Bob.
Richard Gowlovech
REPUBLICAN CITY -- Richard G. Gowlovech, 62, of Republican City, formerly of Grand Island, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island with the Rev. Tom Ryan officiating. Burial will be in the Phillips Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., with a scripture wake service at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Kleine Funeral Home in Grand Island.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

Bruce McLellan
LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- Bruce G. McLellan, 72, of Lakewood, Colo., died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002.
Services were held Feb. 22 at Runyan-Stevenson-Capitol Mortuary in Lakewood, Colo.
Mr. McLellan was born Oct. 1, 1929, at Alliance to John and Ruth (Liedtke) McLellan. He grew up in Grand Island, attending Trinity Lutheran Schools and graduating from Grand Island High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Alaska where he was among the first of the IBM Data Processing and pre-computer instructors. After his discharge, he came back to Nebraska to attend Kearney State Teacher's College. During this time, he was first married
for a short time.
He later married
Marjorie Jensen on Oct. 1, 1956. The couple moved to Denver. He continued his education at University of Denver Business School and then attended University of Denver Law School where he graduated in 1961. He went on to pass his Bar Exam. He practiced law for more than 40 years. At the beginning of his career, he opened his own practice with his wife. Over the years, he had various partners, but recently he was the only principle in his office.
He attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island, where he was confirmed. The couple were members of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Denver. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors and woodworking. He also enjoyed golfing, playing in Pebble Beach, Spain, Hawaii and Mexico. He was an avid sports fan of the Denver Broncos since 1962.
Survivors include his wife, a daughter, Connie of Sante Fe, N.M.; a son, Jerry of Albuquerque, N.M.; three grandchildren and a great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a grandchild.
Tony Scholl
Anton P. "Tony" Scholl, 74, a resident of the Grand Island Veterans Home died Friday, March 1, 2002, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the chapel of the Grand Island Veterans Home. The Rev. Bill Forbes will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The family will be present to greet friends from 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Memorials are suggested to the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Mr. Scholl was born March 21, 1927, at Seldon, Kan., to John and Madeline (Kellar) Scholl. He moved to the Brush, Colo., area with his family where he was educated. He worked on the family farm and was later employed as a mechanic in Brush before entering the U.S. Army in March 1951. He served in the Korean Conflict until his discharge in March 1953. He continued working in Colorado.
He married
Alice Rock on Dec. 17, 1955, in Grand Island. He had lived in Grand Island since. He worked for Ernie Dobesh for 15 1/5 years before going to work for Chief Industries where he worked until his retirement in 1986. Mrs. Scholl died in 1996 and he entered the Grand Island Veterans Home. He worked for and received his high school diploma in 2001.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Fraternal Order Eagles Aerie 378 of Grand Island where he served as trustee for 15 years and a member of the American Legion in Wood River.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Christy Scholl of Grand Island; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Jeff Koch of Grand Island; four grandsons; four sisters, Margaret Riter of Greeley, Colo., Marcella Scholl of Brush, Colo., Babe Matthews of Albuquerque, N.M., and Mary Scholl of La Salle, Colo.; a sister-in-law, May Scholl of Greeley, Colo.; a brother-in-law, Robert L. Rock of Brighton, Colo., and mother-in-law, Edith Jacobsen of Brighton, Colo.
Other than his wife he was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Lois Schreiber
Lois L. Schreiber, 79, Grand Island died Friday, March 1, 2002, at her home in Grand Island.
Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday with a family prayer service at 2:15 at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Revs. Martin Schmidt and Ronald Benson will officiate. Private burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Kermit Hinze
ALBION -- Kermit Tiede Hinze, 91, of Albion died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at the Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Akron Presbyterian Church in Akron. The Rev. Mary Avidano will officiate. Burial will be in the Akron cemetery in Akron.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Mr. Hinze was born May 5, 1910, on a farm northwest of Albion in Boone County to Wilhelm "William" Carl and Johanna Fredrecka Christina (Tiede) Hinze. He attended Boone County School District 53 through the eighth grade and graduated from Albion High School in 1927. He worked on his dad's farm and following graduation, he worked at the Co-Op Station where he drove the fuel truck. He later worked the wheat harvest, traveling from Western Nebraska to Canada. In 1931, he started farming on his own on a rented farm. Later he bought the land, part of it in 1942 and the rest in 1944.
He married
Mildred May Allison on Feb. 18, 1942, at Butte. He farmed in the Bonanza precinct, north of Akron and raised cattle and hogs. They moved into Albion in 1995.
He served on the Boone County District 53 School Board and was secretary for several years. He enjoyed Blue Rock Shoots and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He became a resident of Cloverlodge Care Center in July 2001.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Veaetta K. Wilford and one son and daughter-in-law, Kermit C. "Butch", all of Albion; one stepson, Gail Booth of Detroit, Mich.; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one infant grandson; four brothers, Arnum, William, Harry and Merlin; and two sisters, Alma Carnahan and Ethel Berthelsen.
Richard Reed
AINSWORTH -- Richard Eugene Reed, 69, of Atkinson died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2002, in Ainsworth.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the First Christian Church in O'Neill. The Rev. Dan Rowlison, assisted by Erik Olson and Dennis Quigley, will officiate. Burial will be in the Woodlawn cemetery in Atkinson.
The Seger Funeral Home in Atkinson and Stuart are in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Reed was born April 5, 1932, at Burwell to Harvey and Lela (Hartford) Reed.
He married
Robyn Jensen on April 20, 1952, in Burwell, and worked as an auctioneer.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Pete Morgan of Grand Island, Carolyn and Larry Titus of Springview, and Patty and Rod Schmuecker of Atkinson; 23 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Don Jensen of Taylor.
He was preceded in death by his wife and a brother, Robert.
