Bernard Shotkoski
ARCADIA -- Bernard Shotkoski, 79, of Arcadia died Friday, March 1, 2002, at the Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Chuch in Loup City with the Rev. Reginald A. Urban officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery in Loup City.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Higgins Funeral Home and from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday with a 7:30 p.m.. vigil at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Arcadia Rescue Unit or the church.
Donald Wiggins
BROKEN BOW -- Donald Lee Wiggins, 66, of Broken Bow died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Revs. James Sampson and Larry Milligen will officiate. Burial will be in the Brewster Cemetery.
Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Govier Brothers Mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mr. Wiggins was born July 6, 1935, at Seneca to Lance and Fern Ellen (Davis) Wiggins. He attended grade school near Thedford and in Thedford and graduated from Seneca High School. After his schooling he worked for his family. He enlisted in the U.S. Army serving from May 3, 1956, to March 27, 1958. After his discharge, he joined his family who had moved to the Brewster area.
He married
Alma Athey on Oct. 22, 1962, and they lived in Milburn. Later they moved to Broken Bow and he continued to ranch.
He enjoyed buying and selling old Ford pickups.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter and son-in-law, Tresa and Rick Howington of Baltimore, Md.; one grandson; one brother, Chuck Wiggins of Lusk, Wyo.; and two sisters, Ardith Wiggins of Denver, and Betty Altman of Chico, Texas.
Lowell Shaffer
BELLEVUE -- Lowell W. Shaffer, 90, of Bellevue, formerly of Gothenburg, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Bellevue.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Litchfield Christian Church in Litchfield. Burial will be in the Litchfield Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Shaffer was born July 17, 1911, in Mason City. He married
Leona Kohls on May 30, 1934.
Survivors include three daughters, LaVonne Keuter of Papillion, Carol Turner of Lubbock, Texas, and Marilyn Barton of Denver, Colo.; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
Mildred Rickfelder
PEORIA, Ariz. -- Mildred (Shaffer) Rickfelder, 94, of Peoria, Ariz., formerly of Polk, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at the Hospice of Arizona at the Freedom Plaza in Peoria.
Services were Friday, March 1, at the Lundberg Golden Door Chapel in Youngtown, Ariz.
Visitation will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Solt Funeral Home in Polk followed by graveside services at Arborville cemetery near Polk. The Rev. Lester Anderson will officiate.
Mrs. Rickfelder was born Jan. 21, 1908, in Polk to Charlie and Anna (Pike) Graves. She grew up in the Polk area.
She married
Ralph Shaffer in October 1926. They lived in Grand Island and owned and operated Holland Furnace Company until their retirement in 1961. They moved to Tucson, Ariz. Mr. Shaffer died March 18, 1965, and she continued to live in Arizona.
She married
Lawrence Rickfelder in 1970. They lived in Peoria.
Survivors include her husband, Lawrence, of Peoria; one stepdaughter, Edith Eggleston of Auburn; two stepsons, Lawrence "Larry" Rickfelder of Elk Rapids, Mich., and Alan Rickfelder of Farmington Hills, Mich.; nine step grandchildren; 13 step great-grandchildren; and two step great-great-grandchildren.
Other than her first husband, she was preceded in death by one sister Margaret Jones.
Lois Evers
Lois E. Evers, 78, of Grand Island died Thursday, February 21, 2002, at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with the Father Donald E. Larmore officiating. A scripture wake service will be at 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Blessed Sacrament with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. until service time. Mrs. Evers remains were cremated.
Burial will be at 2 p.m. at the St. Libory Catholic Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Central Catholic Foundation or the Nebraska Veterans Home. Kleine Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Evers was born July 24, 1923, at Bushnell to Charles F. and Emma C. (Gulzow) Schwenk. She received her education at St. Libory and in Grand Island. She married
Lawrence C. Evers on Feb. 16, 1942, at St. Libory Catholic Church.
Mr. Evers was in the military, so Mrs. Evers moved with him to Florida and to New York before settling in Grand Island while he continued his military duties overseas.
She worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant during the war. When her husband returned, she became a homemaker and full-time mother. She enjoyed her gardens, quilting, and especially being with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Evers had been a member of St. Mary's Cathedral where she had served on the Alter Society, was active in the church Quilting Group and the Catholic Daughters. She became a member of Blessed Sacrament in 1992.
Survivors include her husband, "Pat" Evers of Grand Island; three sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Becky Evers of Kearney, Larry and Barbara Evers of Tucson, Ariz., and Tim and Lea Evers of Wilmington, Del; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Bill Hildendrandt of Evansville, Ind., and Margaret and Mark Hall of Columbia, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandsons; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Marvin and Kathy Schwenk and Albert and Clara Schwenk, both of St. Libory; and one sister, Lenore Winter of Grand Island.
Tomas Gaspar-Zacarias
Tomas Gaspar-Zacarias, 31, of Grand Island, died as a result of an automobile accident Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, in Grand Island.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Kleine Funeral Home with the Rev. Jose Chavez officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Burial will be in Guatemala. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Gaspar-Zacarias was born May 7, 1970, in Guatemala, to Lucas Gaspar Martin and Candelaria Zacaria Ramires.
He married
Andrea Pedro Gonzalez on Aug. 15, 1989, in Guatemala. He came to the United States seven years ago and worked in Chicago and Colorado. At the time of his death he was employed at in the sanitation department at the ConAgra plant in Grand Island.
Survivors include his wife, Andrea Pedro Gonzalez; one son, Artaro Zacarias Gonzalez; his father, Lucas Gaspar Martin; two sisters, Maria Gaspar Zacarias and GreGoria; and one brother, Juan Gaspar Zacarias.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Candelaria Zacarias Ramires and one son, Artaro Zacarias Gonzalez.
Irene Hoskins
CHADRON -- Irene Bertha Laura Hoskins, 91, of Crawford and formerly of Grand Island, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at the Crestview Care Center in Chadron.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. The Rev. John Douglas Russell will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Hoskins was born March 10, 1910, at Grand Island to Edward and Emma (Loescher) Niemoth. She attended Hall County District 71 School. She worked for a Grand Island family as a nanny and housekeeper at the age of 17.
She married
Leonard Hoskins on Dec. 10, 1929, at Central City. They lived on a farm near St. Paul, then moved in 1934 to Henley, Mo. They returned to Nebraska in 1942. Mr. Hoskins worked at the ammunition depots until the end of World War II. They then farmed in the Clarks and Chapman areas until 1973. They moved to Grand Island and then moved to Crawford in 1986.
Mrs. Hoskins was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Bobbie Hoskins of Crawford; a daughter and son-in-law, Twyla and Sam Harrison of Goldendale, Wash.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two great-grandchildren.
