Thomas Anderson
Thomas L. Anderson, 64, of Grand Island died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate.
There will be no visitation. His body was cremated.
Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association or Alzheimer's Association.
Mr. Anderson was born Jan. 17, 1938, at Ord to C.A. "Hi" and Flora (Leggett) Anderson. He graduated from Ord High School in 1957. After graduation, he attended Hastings College. He then served two years in the U.S. Army before attending undergraduate and law school at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. After graduating with a law degree in 1967, he moved to Grand Island and began a career in the practice of defense law.
He married
Barbara Hitchler of Grand Island in 1972. He founded the partnership of Anderson, Vipperman, Kovanda and Wetzel in 1974. He was instrumental in the development of several lakes in the Grand Island area and at one time ran a trout farm.
He was a member of American Bar Association and Nebraska Bar Association. He was enjoyed animals, world travel and car collecting.
Survivors include two daughters, Amy Anderson of Nisswa, Minn., and Emily Anderson of Lincoln; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Coralee Anderson and Shirley and Richard Sheer, all of Lincoln; and a nephew, Thomas Kovanda of Grand Island.
Douglas Clark
Douglas C. Clark, 79, a resident of Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at the St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Ray Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home with the family greeting friends from 6 to 9 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to Diabetes Foundation.
Mr. Clark was born June 28, 1922, at Columbus to Chester and Ethel (Douglas) Clark. He was educated in Columbus. He enlisted in the National Guard his senior year before graduating. He had recently received his Honorary High School Diploma. He was inducted into active duty Dec. 23, 1940, at the beginning of World War II. He was sent to Little Rock, Ark., where he went to school to become a medic. He was in the service until August 30, 1945, as a surgical technician with the 110th Medical Battalion, serving in seven major battles. After his discharge, he lived in Denver where he was employed for Shell Chemical Company until ill health forced him to retire. He spent several years in Durango, Colo., before moving to Nebraska.
He married
Bessie Bruner on Dec. 27, 1969, in Columbus. The couple lived in Grand Island where he worked at the Cornhusker Ammunition Plant as a safety engineer until the plant closed. He was then employed by the Grand Island School system until ill health forced him to retire in 1975.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and affiliated with the Disabled American Veterans, Eagles Aerie 378 and American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; stepdaughter, Barbara Wittman of Grand Island; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Lois and Raymond Nyfeller of Stromsburg, Loretta and J.W. Lusche of Lakewood, Colo., and Genie and Fred Ingold of Ottawa, Ill.; and a brother, David F. Clark of California.
'Bob' Schuyler
Robert D. "Bob" Schuyler, 70, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church. A family prayer service will be at 9:45 a.m. in the chapel of the church.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Schuyler was born Dec. 8, 1931, at Elyria to John and Elizabeth (Gray) Schuyler. He lived in Wolbach from age 3 to 11 before moving to Grand Island. He attended Grand Island Senior High. After graduating, he was employed as manager of the Ehlers Egg and Produce Co. until 1952 at which time he entered the U.S. Army. He served during the Korean War.
He married
Janice Dean on Aug. 7, 1955, in Grand Island. She died in April 1975. He was employed by Skagway where he was a receiving manager for 43 years until his retirement in 1988.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, camping, bowling, and being with his family.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Denise Schuyler and Ken Burkardt of Grand Island, and Deanna and Al Lubken of Lincoln; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kurt and Joan Schuyler of Fort Collins, Colo., and Kenton and Tracy Schuyler of Grand Island; five grandchildren; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ella Mae and Ken Dahmas of Grand Island and Arlene and Ray Eden of Palo Alto, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his wife, six brothers and two sisters.
Bayme Arends
ST. LIBORY -- Mayme M. Arends, 81, of St. Libory died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at Beverly Healthcare at Lakeview in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Libory's Catholic Church in St. Libory. The Rev. Michael McDermott will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Arends was born Oct. 1, 1920, on the family farm northeast of St. Libory to John and Martha (Gerdes) Volkl. She was educated at St. Libory rural schools.
She married
Clarence Arends on Jan. 14, 1936, at St. Libory. The couple lived and farmed in the St. Libory area their entire married
life. She also worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunitions Plant in Grand Island and as a cook at the Lone Tree Cafe in St. Libory. She worked as a nurses aid at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul for 25 years. In 1986, she received the Nebraska Hospital Association "Caring Kind Award." He died on Oct. 18, 1984.
She enjoyed her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and also enjoyed gardening, flowers and baking angel-food cakes.
She was a lifetime member of St. Libory's Catholic Church, Council of Catholic Women, Christian Mothers and DCCW.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, LeRoy and Catherine Arends and Jim and Fran Arends, all of Grand Island, and Dale and Carolyn Arends of St. Libory; two daughters and a son-in-law, Yvonne Wichmann of Palmer and Rita and Eldon Wichmann of St. Libory; 18 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren and one brother, Bernard Volkl of St. Libory.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by one son-in-law, John Wichmann; three grandchildren and one great-grandson; and two brothers, Earl and Raymond Volkl.
'Bob' Bourne
MARQUETTE -- Robert "Bob" L. Bourne, 53, of Marquette, formerly of Osakis, Minn., died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2002.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Brenny Funeral Home West Chapel in Little Falls, Minn. The Rev. Mark Innocenti will officiate. Burial will be in Minnesota State Veterans cemetery near Camp Ripley with military rites provided by Little Falls VFW Post 1112.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Bourne was born Sept. 11, 1948, at Wheeling, W.V., to John and Letha Bourne. He grew up and was educated in Texas. He enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1986. He served in the Vietnam War and he was a P.O.W. for eight months. He was dedicated to serving his country and received a Purple Heart and many other medals.
He married
Patricia Kowalzek on Feb. 13, 1998, in Alexandria, Minn. He drove truck.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Robbin Bourne and Angelina Storkamp, both of Marquette; a stepdaughter, Christina Meyer of Pierz, Minn.; two stepsons, Thomas Calzolari and Anthony Hollerman, both of Marquette; and three step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Albert Christensen
GIBBON -- Albert Christensen, 80, resident of Good Samaritan Center in Gibbon died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon. Burial will be in Nysted cemetery near Dannebrog.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to Gibbon Emergency Unit Fund.
Mr. Christensen was born Dec. 29, 1921, at Ericson to Nels and Myrtle (Swaine) Christensen. He grew up in the Ericson area and attended rural schools.
As a young adult, he worked on the family farm. He later moved to Kearney and then to Gibbon in the early 1980s. He became a resident of Good Samaritan Center in Gibbon in 1989 due to health reasons.
He attended Gibbon Baptist Church.
Survivors include a brother, Chris of Saco, Mont., and three sisters, Dorothy Hoernke and Phyllis Denton, both of Appleton, Wis., and Doris Tillman of Grand Island.
