Olga Tisthammer
ALBION -- Olga Tisthammer, 88, of Albion died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immanuel-Zion Lutheran Church in rural Albion. The Rev. Bruce Freeman will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Dale Marvin
BLOOMFIELD -- Dale E. Marvin, 77, of Bloomfield died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at Mercy Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Bloomfield. The Rev. Peter D. Friberg will officiate. Burial will be in Bloomfield cemetery with military rites provided by VFW Post 4996.
Brockhaus-Scott Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Marvin was born Nov. 5, 1924, at Bloomfield to Francis and Mary (Beedle) Marvin. He was a 1941 graduate of Bloomfield High School.
He married
Lorraine J. Larson on June 5, 1946, in Wausa. The couple lived in Bloomfield where he worked at Jack's Food Market. In 1961, they purchased the grocery store and changed the named to Marvin's Market. Failing health led to his retirement in 1998.
The World War II U.S. Army Airborne veteran was also a 20 year volunteer at the Bloomfield Fire Department. He was a member of Masonic Lodge, Consistory and American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Neil Hilfiker and Kathy and Eugene Koops, all of Bloomfield, Judy and Bill Sazama of Stapleton and Deb and Bob Carroll of Danbury; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Colleen Marvin of Bloomfield and Mike and Kathy Marvin of Ainsworth; a sister, Vivian Lemke of Bloomfield and a brother and sister-in-law, Harvey and Irene Marvin of Omaha.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Talmon, and an infant sister, Evelyn.
Ben Alcorta Sr.
KERRVILLE, Texas -- Ben Alcorta Sr., 47, of Kerrville, Texas, formerly of Grand Island, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at a Kerrville hospital.
Grimes Funeral Chapel in Kerrville was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Alcorta was born March 19, 1954, in Kerrville to Hilario and Estella (Valero) Alcorta. He was a supply clerk with the Kerrville State Hospital.
He married
Linda Vasquez on June 5, 1982, in Kerrville.
Survivors include his wife; his mother of Kerrville; a daughter, Ashley Alcorta of Kerrville; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ben V. and Irene Alcorta Jr., and Paul Alcorta, all of Kerrville; three sisters, Betty Guerrero and Lisa Flores, both of Kerrville, and Chavela Alcorta of Fresno, Calif.; a brother, Ernest Valderez of Galveston, Texas; and a sister-in-law, Janise Jakubowski of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Alcorta, and a sister, Emma Ontiveros.
Jody Bernert
VAN NUYS, Calif. -- Jody Bernert, 33, of Van Nuys, Calif., formerly of Broken Bow, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at Kaiser Permante-Woodland Hills Hospital in Woodland Hills, Calif., after a short illness.
Services are pending with Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Robert Croxen
YOUNTVILLE, Calif. -- Robert E. Croxen, 82, of Yountville, Calif., died Jan. 20, 2002, at his home in Yountville.
Services were Jan. 26 at the chapel of Richard Pierce Funeral Service in California. Burial was in the San Joaquin Valley National cemetery near Santa Nella, Calif.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mr. Croxen was born Oct. 11, 1919, to Ora Emmerson and Irene (Wunderlich) Croxen in Hamilton County. He graduated from Phillips High School in 1936. He moved to Modesto, Calif., in 1938 and began a long career in heavy construction.
He married
Lavona "Bonnie" Campbell on April 5, 1940, at Modesto. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946. He lived in Yountville for more than 50 years and worked for Basalt Rock Co.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and bowling and belonged to many bowling leagues with his wife. He was a life member of William Cavagnaro Post 9300, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Diane Croxen Jr. of Yelm, Wash.; one daughter and son-in-law, Yvonne and John Steffens of Independence, Mo.; three brothers, Jim and Gene Croxen, both of Ventura, Calif., and Tom Croxen of Granada Hills, Calif.; two sisters, Betty Cassidy of Costa Mesa, Calif., and Grace Heinz of Signal Hill, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald and a sister, Mary Lou.
Marie Nigro
ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. -- Marie M. Nigro, 76, of Rochester Hills, Mich., formerly of Oak Park, Mich., died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at Boulevard Hills Nursing Home in Rochester Hills due to cancer.
Services were Monday at St. Irenaeus Church in Rochester, Mich. Visitation was at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home in Clawson, Mich.
Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Michigan or American Cancer Society, both in Southfield, Mich.
Mrs. Nigro was born Dec. 24, 1925, at Ashton to Anthony and Marie (Juriewicz) Guzinski. She attended Ashton High School and graduated from cosmetology school. She later owned her own beauty salon in Lincoln.
She married
Joseph P. Nigro in 1948. She was a homemaker. She was an active member of Our Lady of Fatima Church and later St. Irenaeus Church. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and reading.
Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Deborah and William Damman and Suzanne Dewyer; four sons and daughters-in-law, William Nigro, John and Mary Nigro, Michael Nigro and James and Pam Nigro; nine grandchildren; and a sister, Jean Beran.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Thomas Anderson
Thomas L. Anderson, 64, of Grand Island died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002 at St. Francis Medical Center.
Livingston-Sonderman funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
Paul Hansen
82, World War II veteran
Paul N. Hansen, 82, of Grand Island, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002 at the Good Samaritan Center in Wood River.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Andrew M. Augustine will officiate. A private family burial will be prior to services at the Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery with military rites by the Ft. Riley Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., with family greeting friends from 4 to 6 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Center in Wood River.
Mr. Hansen was born April 20, 1919, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to John and Jacobina (Nelson) Hansen. He was raised and attended school in Council Bluffs where he graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1937.
He entered the U.S. Air Force on Dec. 1, 1942 serving during World War II as a fighter pilot in the European Theater.
He married
Margaret Charles on May 13, 1942 at Rock Port, Missouri. They lived in Council Bluffs until moving to Grand Island in 1959. While in Council Bluffs he worked as an engineer for the Union Pacific Rail Road. In Grand Island he worked as a road foreman and terminal trainmaster. He retired from the Union Pacific in 1980.
He enjoyed playing golf, helping with the Junior Golf Program and woodworking.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he taught Sunday School.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Jennifer Hansen of Omaha, and John and Stephanie Hansen of Grand Island; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sandy Lewis of Grand Island, and Sue and Dennis Hartner of Kearney; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, one brother and two sisters.
