Gordon Daily
Gordon H. Daily, 88, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Gollaher Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church. The Revs. Del Roper and Todd Daily will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery with military rites provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard of Fort Riley, Kan.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Hospice.
Mr. Daily was born Sept. 4, 1913, at Kenesaw to Joseph L. and Maggie S. (Oliver) Daily. He attended school in Prosser. Following his education, he helped on the family farm. He later drove a cab in Hastings.
He married
Elvera M. Betz on June 29, 1941, in Campbell. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. After his discharge, they lived in Hastings and he worked for the Cushing Company. They moved to Grand Island in 1951 where he worked as a bottler for Meadow Gold Dairy until 1975. He then delivered meals for Grand Island School District hot lunch program for nine years.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He enjoyed square dancing and camping.
Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Delbert and Mary Daily of Augusta, Kan.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Eileen Dills and Jolene and Kelly Schade, all of Grand Island; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Audrey Rookstool, Beulah Halte and Verna Hulme and four brothers, Edward, Wayne, Clayton and Raymond Daily.
David Ward
David Ward, 39, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Cozad Cemetery. The Rev. Bobby Payne of Kearney will officiate.
Memorial book will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.
Memorials have been established in his memory.
Mr. Ward was born June 9, 1962, in Dawson County to Robert and Beverly (Adams) Ward. He graduated from Lexington High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1983 to 1987.
He married
Dawn Lynch on April 14, 1993. The couple lived in Kearney where he was a 911 dispatcher for the Kearney Police Department. At the time of his death, he was living in Grand Island where he worked at Radio Shack in the Conestoga Mall.
He enjoyed animals and boxer dogs. He was involved in the rescue of animals and traveled all over the state to retrieve animals and get them to a shelter for care. He also enjoyed painting mountain scenes and working on his computer.
Survivors include three aunts, Neoma Workman and Shirley Lowe, both of Lexington and Frieda Hofferber of Oregon, and two uncles, Melvin and his wife Mareen Adams of Yuba City, Calif., and Norton and his wife Evelyn Adle of Cozad.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Leo Chohon
SILVER CREEK -- Leo J. Chohon, 98, of Silver Creek died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at Genoa Long Term Care.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek. The Rev. Dave Korth will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Thursday with a 7 p.m. vigil and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. McCown Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Chohon was born Feb. 7, 1903, at Columbus to John and Mary (Jaworski) Chohon. He grew up in Platte County and later in St. Bernard. He was educated at schools in Tarnov.
He married
Mary Zegar on Jan. 21, 1930, in Krakow. He moved to Central City in 1936 where he farmed.
He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek, St. Lawrence cemetery Board and Holy Name Society.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Kaye Chohon of O'Neill and Leonard and Louise Chohon of Columbus; a sister, Alice Behnken of Lancaster, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers and a sister-in-law, Alex Chohon of Los Angeles, Calif., and Henry and Lucille Chohon of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Elaine Tondu; three brothers, Elmer, Ed and Steve Chohon and a sister, Barbara Heckman.
'Gerry' Danker
ANSLEY -- Geraldine "Gerry" Danker, 70, of Ansley died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at Sandhills Manor in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Christian Church in Litchfield. The Revs. Ken Woolery and Marion Sindt will officiate. Burial will be at a later date.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Danker was born March 19, 1931, at Ericson to Charles and Ella M. (Reineke) Boyles. The family moved several times while she was growing up. She attended schools in Ericson, Cresco, Iowa, Woodward, Iowa, and Neligh, where she graduated from high school in 1948.
She married
Luverne "Verne" Danker on Jan. 27, 1962. The couple lived on the family farm west of Oakland, Iowa, where she was born. They owned a summer cottage on Diamond Lake in Atwater, Minn., in later their later years and spent time there each summer until her husband's death in 1990.
She joined United Methodist Church in Shelby, Iowa, in 1991. When she moved back to Woodward in 1992, she transferred her membership to United Methodist Church there. She moved to Ansley in 1999.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Judie of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Robert and Tina of Ansley; a daughter and son-in-law, Sheryl and Marion Sindt of Nashau, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Russell of Woodward, Iowa, and Charles of Dallas Center, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister, Deanna and two brothers, James and Robert.
May Gray
GREELEY -- May Gray, 93, of Greeley died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at the Val Haven Nursing Home in Valley.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Greeley Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Gerald Carlson will officiate. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday with a 7 p.m. rosary at the church.
T.J. Finn and Sons Funeral Home in Greeley is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Gray was born Dec. 31, 1908, at Greeley to Peter and Ellen (Kittridge) Gannon. She attended school at the Sacred Heart School in Greeley. At the age of 16, she moved to Kansas City to attend Beauticians School. After finishing her schooling in Kansas City, she worked as a Beautician in Nebraska City for a year. She then moved back to Greeley.
She married
Ed Gray on Feb. 4, 1932, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley. She continued to work as a Beautician and later ran the Gannon Hotel and Gannon Nursing Home. Her husband died in 1969 and a short time later she retired, continuing to live in Greeley. In December 2000, she moved to the Greeley Care home, and in July 2001 she moved to the Val Haven Nursing Home in Valley.
She enjoyed quilting and was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish in Greeley.
Survivors include a daughter, Florence Weidner of Omaha, eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Margaret Farley of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Peter J. Gray, and four brothers, Tommy, Michael, Peter and Edward Gannon.
Harold Klingman
ALDA -- Harold E. Klingman, 81, of rural Alda died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grand Island. Pastor Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Trinity Lutheran Hope cemetery in Newman Grove.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kleine Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Pauls Lutheran Church or the University of Nebraska Foundation.

Robert McAlevy
ANSLEY -- Robert L. McAlevy, 89, of Grand Island, formerly of Ansley, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at the Grand Island Veterans Home where he had been a resident.
