Ellen Anderson
92, Farmer
STROMSBURG -- Ellen E. Anderson, 92, of Stromsburg died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Evangelical Covenant Church in Stromsburg. The Rev. Bob Johnson will officiate. Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday in Sunrise cemetery near Wahoo.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Mrs. Anderson was born Dec. 1, 1909, in Rosedale to Charles and Ellen (Peterson) Landholm. She attended Rosedale Elementary and graduated from Bristow High School in 1929. After high school, she lived in Bristow where she took care of her invalid mother.
She married
Carl Anderson on March 22, 1944, in Bristow. The couple lived near Bristow where they farmed until 1973. They retired and moved Ceresco where they lived until 1992. They moved to Park Villa Apartments in Stromsburg. Her husband died Dec. 18, 1997.
She was active in Rosedale Covenant Church. She taught Sunday School, was Sunday School superintendent, was president of Covenant Woman, was a choir member since high school and was a deacon at the church. While living in Ceresco, she was active in the senior center and Covenant Church. In Stromsburg, she became active in Evangelical Covenant Church. She enjoyed wood carving, table games, watching television and reading.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Griffith of Riverside, Calif., two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, seven brothers and five sisters.
June Bessey
CENTRAL CITY -- June Bessey, 97, of Central City died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, in Salem, Ore.
Services are pending with Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
Doris Pester
ARCADIA -- Doris Pester, 75, of Arcadia died Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Rev. Tom Mullowney will officiate. Burial will be in Lee Park cemetery near Arcadia.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City and from 6 to 9 p.m. at the church with a vigil at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Nellie Sallach
ALBION -- Nellie Sallach, 78, of Albion, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at the Boone County Health Center in Albion.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Albion. The Rev. Terry Otto will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Lucille Thieman
PETERSBURG -- Lucille H. Thieman, 86, of Petersburg, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at the Boone County Medical Center in Albion
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Catholic Church in Petersburg. The Rev. Frank Baumert will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Levander Funeral Home in Albion. It will continue at the church at 7 p.m. with an 8 p.m. wake service.
Maricela Velasquez
KEARNEY -- Maricela Velasquez, 52, of Kearney, formerly of Grand Island, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island. The Rev. Jose Chavez will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at All Faiths Funeral Home with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Sharon Gleason
NORTH PLATTE -- Sharon L. Gleason, 66, of North Platte died Friday, Jan.. 4, 2002, at her home south of North Platte.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore in North Platte. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.
Her body was cremated. Memorial book may be signed from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. or before services at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Karen Roberts
LINCOLN -- Karen Roberts, 47, of Lincoln died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at her home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Fellowship Baptist Church in Lincoln. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Aurora Cemetery.
Aspen Mortuary Inc. in Lincoln is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Roberts was born at Grand Island to Joe and Helen (Ruzicka) Janky.
Eileen Jones
BEND, ORE. -- Eileen M. Jones, 88, of Bend, Ore., formerly of Greeley, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002.
There will be a private family service in Bremerton, Wash., this summer.
There will be no visitation. Mrs. Jones was cremated.
Memorials are suggested to the Hospice of Bend/La Pine, Ore.
Central Oregon Funeral Alternatives is in charge of arrangements.
Charles Coppersmith
80, World War II veteran
Charles T. Coppersmith, 80, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002, at his home in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Coppersmith was born Oct. 20, 1921, on the family farm north of Grainton to Harlin and Chlora (Tatum) Coppersmith. He attended country school and worked on the family farm until he entered the U.S. Army on June 20, 1942, at Fort Warren, Wyo. He served with the Combat Engineers in Europe from shortly after D-Day until the end of the war. He was honorably discharged Nov. 30, 1945, at Fort Leavenworth, Kan.
He then returned to farming near Grainton until he was selected for a serviceman's homestead near Rupert, Idaho. He farmed there for many years.
He married
Pauline Wiebe on Aug. 22, 1975, in Grant. He worked at Cargill seed for 10 years and was also employed by Third City Livestock. He then worked for Ditch Witch for five years and then as a janitor for Northwest High School. He was then the owner and operator of the Vine Street Tavern until he retired in 1987.
He was a member of the Eagles Club. He enjoyed playing cards, traveling, fishing and spending time in the outdoors.
Survivors include his wife; a stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Michael and Mary Ann Wiebe of Grand Island; three stepdaughters and a stepson-in-law, Paula Nolte, Pamela and James Dreher and Phyllis Wiebe, all of Grand Island; two brothers, Louis Coppersmith of Elsie and Lynn Coppersmith of Seattle; three sisters, Lillian Hanson of Elsie, Lela Newberry of Nampa, Idaho, and Beverly Terry of San Bernadino, Calif.; 15 step grandchildren and eight step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald.
