Ray Butler
GREELEY -- Ray Butler, 90, of Greeley died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Ord Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Mel Andrews will officiate. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart cemetery in Greeley.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

Carrol Fraass
MARQUETTE -- Carrol Lee Fraass, 53, of Marquette died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at Immanuel Lutheran Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Chapel of Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Burial will be in Richland cemetery near Marquette.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Fraass was born Aug. 19, 1948, at Sidney to Dave and Marilyn (Dress) Fraass. He grew up in Sidney and graduate from Lodgepole High School in 1964. He served in the U.S. Army shortly after graduation.
He married
Ruth Prochnow on Nov. 22, 1970, at St. John's Church in Seward. The couple lived in Marquette and had one son, Dustin born on Sept. 27, 1982.
Mr. Fraass worked for many years in the Grand Island area in the mechanical field. At the time of his death he was employed at Great Plains Material and Handling in Grand Island.
Survivors include his wife and son of Marquette; his parents of Crook, Colo.; twin sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Myron Davidson of Wheatridge, Colo.; and three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Rich Fraass of Crook, Colo., Scott and Bonnie Fraass of Crook, Colo., and Daryl and Annie Fraass of North Platte.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and a nephew, Bryan.
Lillian Happ
GREELEY -- Lillian Annora Happ, 89, of Greeley died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at the Boone County Health Center in Albion.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley. The Rev. Gerald Carlson will officiate. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Levander Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids with a 3 p.m. rosary. Wake services will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. Ralph Steffensmeier will officiate.
Mrs. Happ was born Dec. 28, 1912, on a farm south of Greeley to Ernest and Mary (Buck) Manning. She attended rural Barnell School near Greeley.
She married
William J. Happ on April 15, 1936, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley. They lived and farmed around the Greeley area.
Mr. Happ died on Oct. 3, 1990. Due to her failing health, Mrs. Happ had been living with her daughter Mary in Primrose.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley and the Altar Society.
Survivors include three sons and a daughter-in-law, Edward Happ of Greeley, Joseph Happ of Greeley, and Jerome and Susan Happ of San Jose, Calif.; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Lavern Dresch of Primrose; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Harold Burgamier of Bedford, Iowa, Lucinda and Frank Krupa of Indianapolis, and Helen and Merle Shultz of Hastings; and a brother, James Manning of Reedsport, Ore.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a granddaughter, Rosemary Dresch; a great-grandson, Matthew Dresch; three bothers, Edmond, Thomas and Harold Manning; and two sisters Katherine Pawleska, and Viola Jane Manning.
Kenneth Kulus
Kenneth C. Kulus, 63, of Grand Island died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at home after a battle with cancer.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Donald Larmore and Rev. Frank Hoelck will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Sunday at Kleine Funeral Home, and will continue from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church with the family receiving friends throughout the afternoon and evening. A rosary service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday.
Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Hospice Association, the Central Catholic Foundation or to the family.
Mr. Kulus was born March 26, 1938, at Omaha, Nebraska, to William C. and Mary (Couch) Kulus. He went to school in Ralston and graduated from Ralston High School. He then attended the University Of Nebraska-Omaha.
He married
LaVonne K. Schmaderer on June 6, 1959, in Stuart. He became store manager and market manager for Hinky Dinky grocery store in Omaha.
While living in Omaha, he was active in St. Gerald's Catholic Church and taught CCD classes. He also coached Little League baseball and football while in Omaha. In 1976 the family moved to Grand Island where he worked for the USDA as a meat inspector.
Mr. Kulus was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, the Liederkranz, and the Eagles. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, sporting events and being with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Laurie Kulus of Grand Island, and Kenny and Heather Kulus of Omaha; one daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Wendell Dubbs of Wood River; six grandchildren, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Greg and Jolene, and Joe and Cathy, all of Omaha; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Marilyn and Les Taylor of Glasgow, Mont., and Joan and John Green of Omaha.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Evelyn Murphy
BERTRAND -- Evelyn Lucille Murphy, 73, of Bertrand died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Bertrand. The Rev. Fred Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in the Immanuel cemetery in Bertrand.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Sandstrom Funeral Home in Bertrand.
A memorial has been established in her memory.
Mrs. Murphy was born Sept. 6, 1928, at Burchard to Dallas and Gladys (Hochstedler) Miller. She attended school in Pawnee City and Gothenburg. Following her education, she worked as a waitress at French's Cafe in Gothenburg.
She marred James "Bernard" Murphy on Nov. 18, 1945, in Norton Kan. The couple lived in Cozad, Gothenburg and in 1954 they moved to Holdrege where Mr. Murphy worked at Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation. Mrs. Murphy worked for the Loomis Cafe and later the Bertrand Cafe.
Mr. Murphy died on Sept. 30, 1999.
Mrs. Murphy enjoyed baking for her grandchildren and friends, quilting, embroidery, shuffleboard, bingo and playing cards.
Survivors include three sons and a daughter-in-law, Terry and Margarita Murphy of Holdrege, Jerry Murphy of Colorado, Johnny Murphy of Bertrand; a daughter, Susan Kay Stewart of Cairo; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five brothers and four sisters-in-law, Carlton Miller of Fort Calhoun, Darrol and Hatsu Miller of Litchfield, Leslie and Betty Miller of Hazard, Leo and Joan Miller of Litchfield, and Richard and Faye Miller of Holdrege; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Doris and William Morris of Gothenburg, and Helen and Duane Wach of Wilcox.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Harlan Miller; a daughter-in-law, Ruby Murphy, and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Miller.
Opal Ripp
SHELTON -- Opal I. Ripp, 90, of Shelton died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at the Western Hall County Good Samaritan Center in Wood River.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelton. The Rev. Paul Colling will officiate. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in the Kearney Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church with a vigil at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to Parkinson's research or to the Good Samaritan Center in Wood River.
Apfel-O'Brien-Straatmann Funeral Home of Wood River is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Ripp was born July 24, 1911, at Shelton to William and Annabelle (Sober) Luffer. She attended rural school near Shelton and graduated from Shelton High School in 1928.
She married
Frank Ripp on Dec. 7, 1932, in Shelton. They lived southwest of Gibbon before moving to the Shelton area in 1943.
Mr. Ripp died on April 29, 1993. Mrs. Ripp moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Wood River in 1994.
Survivors include a son, Jim Ripp of Wood River; three daughters, Carolyn Naab of Grand Island, Irene Marks of Omaha, and Marcella Keene of Puma Valley, Calif.; a brother Lloyd Luffer of Shelton; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Richard Ripp; two sisters, Ruth Godfrey and Ethel Bowman; and a brother, Roy Luffer.
