Timothy Tevlin
LOUP CITY -- Timothy E. Tevlin, 51, of Loup City died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, near Boelus.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City. The Rev. Darrell Holzinger will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery in Loup City with military honors by the Loup City American Legion Post 48.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Tevlin family.
Mr. Tevlin was born Dec. 17, 1950, at St. Louis to Robert and Genevieve (Zeller) Tevlin. He grew up in St. Louis and attended school there.
In 1970 he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Vietnam War. He was discharged in 1974.
In 1991 he moved to Loup City where he was employed as an over-the-road truck driver.
He enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter and watching her swim.
Survivors include his parents of Arnold, Mo.; daughter Leah Brothers of Loup City; granddaughter, Bertha Brothers of Loup City; sister, Shelly Nichols of St. Louis, brothers Tom, Terry and Berry all of Arnold, Mo.; and his ex-wife and friend Carol Allen of Loup City.
Dale Breaker
77, Railroad carpenter
Dale V. Breaker, 77, of Grand Island died Friday, April 5, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Resurrection Catholic Church. The Rev. Harry Kurtenbach will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday with a 7 p.m. rosary service at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Breaker was born June 16, 1924, at Arapahoe to Fred W. and Nellie I. (Retherford) Breaker. He grew up and attended school in Arapahoe. Following his education, he worked as a carpenter for the Burlington Northern Railroad for four years. He then worked as a carpenter for the Union Pacific Railroad.
He married
Margaret Wieczorek on Sept. 4, 1954, at St. Mary's Church in Rockville.
He retired after 43 years with the railroad and worked at Stuhr Museum for a short time helping with the railroad exhibits.
He enjoyed gardening, woodcrafts and the outdoors.
He was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret, of Grand Island; two sons and daughter-in-law, Kevin Breaker of Grand Island and David and Trudy Breaker of North Platte; and one sister, Hazel McCormick of Mobile, Ala.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Roseann Marie Breaker; two brothers, Willard and Merle Breaker; a sister, Opal Mitzmeyer; and an infant sister.
'Ellie' Huwaldt
Eloise " Ellie" V. Huwaldt, 79, of Grand Island died Thursday, April 4, 2002, at Scottsdale, Ariz.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Ray Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Huwaldt was born April 28, 1922, to Verne D. and Marie M. (Jensen) Hainline at Grand Island. She grew up and was educated at Dodge, Barr and Grand Island Senior High School. She graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1939. She furthered her education at the Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Mo., and the University of Nebraska in Lincoln where she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority.
She married
Lawrence H. Huwaldt on June 17, 1943, at Grand Island. After which they lived in Grand Island.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, and the CK Chapter of the P.E.O.
Survivors include her husband; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Kathie Huwaldt of Paradise Valley, Ariz.; a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Dr. Bob Sweeney-Greenburg of Paradise Valley; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Avis Larsen
Avis B. Larsen, 94, of Grand Island died Friday, April 5, 2002, at Countryview Care Village in Genoa.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Phillips Cemetery. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island or Phillips cemetery Association.
Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Larsen was born Sept. 13, 1907, at Phillips to Frank H. and Myrle (Naylor) Purdy. She grew up and attended school in the Phillips area, graduating from Phillips Consolidated High School in 1924. She taught school in the Tryon and Giltner areas for five years.
In 1929, she entered nurses training at the Methodist School of Nursing in Omaha, graduating in 1933. She took post-graduate training in psychiatric nursing at Hastings State Hospital and at Colorado Psychopathic Hospital. She returned to Omaha and worked in psychopathic nursing at Bishop Clarkson Hospital and later was appointed supervisor of the psychiatric department. In 1949, she and Dr. A.E. Bennett co-authored and published a book titled "Psychiatric Nursing Techniques."
She married
James H. Scholder Jr. in August 1941. He died in 1968.
She married
Arthur Larsen in 1972. He died in 1982. She had been living at Riverside Lodge in Grand Island since 1988. She entered the Countryview Care Village in Genoa in December 2001.
She was a member of Nebraska State Nurses Association and served as president for four years. She also was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Maynard and Anne Purdy of Hampton and a sister-in-law, Elaine Purdy of California.
She was preceded in death by both husbands, a sister, Lucille Plank, and two brothers, Kenneth and Wendell Purdy.
Evelyn Miller
Evelyn M. Miller, 80, of Grand Island died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
'Hank' Fisher
68, Retired teacher
AURORA -- Henry "Hank" D. Fisher, 68, of Aurora died Friday, April 5, 2002, at Memorial Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Aurora with Dr. Joe Scahill officiating. Burial will be in the Stanley cemetery in Amherst at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary.
Mr. Fisher was born in Amherst on Dec. 10, 1933, to Virgil and Ann (Barth) Fisher. He grew up at Amherst and attended rural school for his first eight years. He graduated from Amherst High School in 1951. He completed his bachelor's degree in 1959 and his master's degree in 1967 at Kearney State College. He served in the National Guard until 1960.
He married
Donna Boggs on June 3, 1956, at Hershey. After graduating from Kearney State, he began his teaching career at Elwood. In the fall of 1962, they moved to Aurora where he taught business in the Aurora High School for 30 years.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church and vice chairman of trustees at United Methodist. He was secretary of the Aurora Bowling Association, assistant treasurer of the Plainsman Museum, a member of the Hamilton Community Foundation Scholarship Committee and member of the Nebraska Business Educators Association. He enjoyed meeting his coffee buddies at 9 a.m. daily at Hamilton Motor Inn.
Survivors include his wife Donna of Aurora; one son and daughter-in-law, Kyle and Phyllis Fisher of Omaha; one grandson; his mother, Ann Fisher of Amherst; two brothers, Harvey Fisher of Kearney and Jerry Fisher of Amherst; and one sister, Charlotte Reicks of Grand Junction, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his father, Virgil.
