Marguerite Davis
Marguerite J. Davis, 75, of Grand Island died Monday, April 1, 2002, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City. Sister Mary Arie will officiate. Burial will be in Fullerton Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Mrs. Davis was born Aug. 19, 1926, at El Paso, Texas, to Walter H. and Edna M. (Ahr) Anderson. She grew up in El Paso and graduated from El Paso High School.
She married
Charles H. Davis on Feb. 18, 1949, in El Paso. The couple lived in El Paso. In 1963, they moved to Sante Fe, N.M. They lived in Del Norte, Colo., from 1976 until 1989 when they returned to Sante Fe. In 1994, they moved to Hordville and then to Merrick Manor in Central City in 1995. The couple then moved to the Grand Island Veterans Home. Her husband died July 4, 1999.
She had been a Girl Scout leader and enjoyed gardening and raising roses.
Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Vickie Gress of Aurora and Charlene and Brian Stephenson of Alliance; three sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Davis Jr. of Alamosa, Colo., Kenneth and Cindy Davis of Albuquerque, N.M., and Jeffrey and Barbara Davis of Russellville, Ala.; 10 grandchildren; a great grandchild; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy and Mary Anderson of Reno, Nev., and Donald and Sara Jane Anderson of Thornton, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a grandchild and two brothers, Paul and Walter Anderson.
Elaine Arends
ST. PAUL -- Elaine M. Arends, 81, of St. Paul died Monday, April 1, 2002, at Grand Island Veterans Home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Libory Catholic Church. The Rev. Michael E. McDermott will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Kleine Funeral Home and from 6 p.m. until a 7:30 p.m. rosary Thursday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Arends was born Dec. 7, 1920, in rural Hall County to Harry W. and Rosa (Stelk) Schimmer.
She lived on the family farm until her marriage to Charles F. Arends. The couple farmed in the St. Libory area and she worked at the Egg Plant in Grand Island for six years. Her husband died in 1992.
She was a member of St. Libory Catholic Church, Altar Society, Platt-Duetsche, and St. Libory Birthday Club. She enjoyed baking, crocheting, spending time with family and friends and playing Pitch and Rummy.
Survivors include a son, Lloyd Arends of St. Paul; a daughter, Debra R. Arends of Lincoln; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a daughter-in-law, Lynn Arends of Phillips.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, LaMoins "Lee, " three brothers, John, Emil and Maynard Schimmer, and a sister, Evelyn Kroeger.
May Garrett
BROKEN BOW -- May L. Garrett, 90, of Broken Bow died Monday, April 1, 2002, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Govier Brothers Mortuary Chapel in Broken Bow. Gene Goben will officiate. Burial will be in Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Mrs. Garrett was born Sept. 4, 1911, at Overton to James and Mary M. (Hinote) Fred. She attended school in the Overton area.
She married
Orville Garrett in April 1928 in Kansas City, Kan. The couple lived near Overton. The later moved to several communities including 11 years in California before moving to Broken Bow in 1962. Her husband died Jan. 29, 1984.
Survivors include two sons, Ivan Garrett of Redondo Beach, Calif., and Robert Garrett of Grand Island, six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers and a sister.
Robert Morris
ELBA -- Robert L. Morris, 53, of Elba died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at the University Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church Family Center in Dannebrog. The Rev. Barry Arndt will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakridge cemetery with military honors at graveside by Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119 of St. Paul.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church in Dannebrog with a family and friends service at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the family. Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Morris was born Nov. 19, 1948, in North Platte to Harold Sr. and Betty (Johnson) Morris. He grew up in North Platte, St. Joseph, Miss., and Grand Island. He joined the Job Corps in 1956 and continued until 1958. He then was drafted into the Army and served from 1969 until 1971. From 1969 to 1970 he fought in the Vietnam War where he received the purple heart.
He married
Gilda Lynn Peden on Oct. 5, 1970, in Grand Island. After a few jobs, he built bridges for Diamond Engineering. He was employed there for 20 years before moving to Oregon where he was employed at Burelback Industries for five years. He then found his way back to Diamond Engineering in 1997.
He enjoyed working with the VFW and hunting. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dannebrog where he served as a trustee and an usher. He was also a member of the VFW.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and daughter-in-laws, Travis and Carrie of Dallas, Ore. and Troy and Jessica of Elba; two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Darrell Jarman of Dannebrog and Tina Morris of Elba; four grandchildren; one mother, Betty Morris of Grand Island; three brothers, Jack of Kearney, T.J. of Portland, Ore. and Les of Kearney; and one sister, Rosemary Holmberg of Central City.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Darrell Timmons
SCOTIA -- Darrell L. Timmons, 75, of rural Scotia died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at Greeley Care Home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in Scotia. The Rev. Melanie Adams will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery in Scotia.
Visitation will be prior to services Saturday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church or Baptist Church in Scotia.
Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Ida Eirick-Wake
SUN CITY, Ariz. -- Ida H. Eirick-Wake, 93, of Sun City, Ariz., died Monday, April 1, 2002, at Glendale, Ariz.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Delvin Roper will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island.
Mrs. Eirick-Wake was born Jan. 28, 1909, at Grand Island to William and Mary (Steinmeier) Niedfelt. She grew up in near Grand Island and was educated at District 28 School.
She married
Adam Eirick on May 22, 1939, in Los Angeles. The couple lived in Los Angles where she worked for Safeway. They later moved to Napa, Calif. In 1940, they moved to Vallejo, Calif., and in 1948 they returned to Nebraska and lived in Lincoln. She work for Safeway and later for Novartis Consumer Health Inc. Her husband died Oct. 14, 1963. She continued to live in Lincoln, retiring in 1974. She moved to Arizona in 1980.
She later married
Herb Grosshans in Las Vegas. After his death, she married
Arthur Wake in 1986 in Sun City, Ariz., and they lived in Sun City. He died in 1991 and she continued to live in Arizona.
She was a member of the Untied Methodist Church in Lincoln and Sun City, Ariz. She was also a member of the Easter Star.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Gwen and Darryl Detlefsen of Sun City, Ariz.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Hattie Peterson of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters.
Dorothy Keating
79, Homemaker
BARSTOW, Calif. -- Dorothy J. Keating, 79, of Barstow, Calif., died Sunday, March 24, 2002, at High Palm Care Center Facility in San Bernardino, Calif.
Services were March 28 at Mead Mortuary in Barstow, Calif. Burial was in Mount View Memorial Park in Barstow.
Mrs. Keating was born June 16, 1922, at Cushing. She was a homemaker and resident of Barstow, Calif., for 60 years.
She was a member of Elks Lodge Emblem Club 311 and Canasta and Bunko Clubs in Barstow, Calif. She enjoyed turtles, hummingbirds and Easter egg hunts.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Nick and Kathy Keating and a sister, Helen Gilbert, all of Barstow, Calif., two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a brother, Calvin "Spike" Smith of St. Paul.
