Carol Toogood
Carol A. Klein Toogood, 82, of Scotia died Friday, June 11, 1999, at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Scotia. The Rev. Mark Middendorf will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery in Scotia.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island with the family greeting friends from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to Zion Lutheran Church, the Scotia Rescue Unit or the donor's choice.
Blanche Vincent
BROKEN BOW -- Blanche Vincent, 87, of Broken Bow died Friday, June 11, 1999, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services are pending with Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
George Kellogg
NORTH PLATTE -- George Turner Kellogg, 74, of North Platte, formerly of Anselmo, died Thursday, June 10, 1999, in North Platte.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Don Schauda will officiate. Burial will be in the New Helena Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Govier Brothers Mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the North Platte Red Cross and to the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Kellogg was born Feb. 20, 1925, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to George Allen and Mable M. (Turner) Kellogg. At an early age, he moved with his family to a farm near Anselmo. He attended country school and graduated from Anselmo High School in 1943.
He entered the U.S. Navy and served during World War II from February 1944 to April 1946.
On Dec. 28, 1945, he married
Betty Daily in Anselmo. After his discharge from the service, they lived on a farm near Anselmo. In 1953, he began working for the Union Pacific Railroad and they moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Over the years, he attained the position of conductor. He retired after 35 years with the railroad, and they moved back to Anselmo in 1988.
During his retirement years, they spent time raising and training horses and traveling.
He was a lifetime member of the Anselmo V.F.W.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Claudia Page of Council Bluffs and Cynthia (Mrs. Dan) Gish of Castle Rock, Colo.; three sons, George L. Kellogg of Council Bluffs, C. Mike Kellogg of Omaha and John J. Kellogg of North Platte; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Idabelle Koch of Sargent.
'Buck' Salter
FOUNTAIN HILLS, Ariz. -- E. R. "Buck" Salter, 79, of Fountain Hills, Ariz., formerly of Greeley, died Tuesday, June 8, 1999, in Fountain Hills.
Memorial services will be in Fountain Hills with burial in Craig, Colo.
Mr. Salter was born June 25, 1919, in Greeley. He was a 1936 graduate of Greeley High School. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II and was stationed in Burma.
Survivors include his wife, Laura; one daughter, Sari; one step daughter, Jennifer; two grandchildren; two sisters, Edna Thompson of Laramie, Wyo., and Dorothy Lyons of Grand Junction, Colo.; and one brother, Harold Salter of Medford, Ore.
Earl Killefer
Earl Killefer, 70, of Grand Island died Thursday, June 17, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Revs. Robert Stretch and Donald Jones will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Fort McPherson National Cemetery.
Mr. Killefer was cremated. There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Francis Cancer Treatment Center.
Mr. Killefer was born Oct. 15, 1928, to Robert and Edith Mae (Baldwin) Killefer Sr. at Los Angeles, Calif. He was educated in California and graduated from Newport Harbor Unified High School. He then attended and graduated from Willamette University in Salem, Ore.
He married
Kinumi Saito in 1957. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 22 years.
He married
Sook Park on May 12, 1970, in Seoul, Korea. He retired from the Air Force in 1973. The couple moved to Hastings in 1975 and then moved to Grand Island in 1976.
His hobbies included fishing, golfing and traveling. He was active in church activities and was a member of the Berean Bible Church.
Survivors include his wife, Sook; three sons, John Killefer of Morgantown, W. Va., Daniel Killefer of Lincoln, and James Killefer of Grand Island; two daughters, Laura Killefer of Columbus and Susan Killefer of Hemet, Calif.; two granddaughters and one brother, Robert Killefer Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Hevia.
Edward Stoltenberg
Edward J. Stoltenberg Jr., 69, of 423 N. Darr died Friday, June 18, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. James Keyser will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Stoltenberg was born July 3, 1929, in Grand Island to Edward Sr. and Edna (Steele) Stoltenberg. He went to school in Grand Island and has lived all his life in Grand Island except for the time he was in the U.S. Army following World War II.
He married
Gloria Burnett on June 2, 1948, in Grand Island. During his working career, he was employed at the Telk Plant, Prairie State Construction and Missouri Valley Construction. He drove a truck for Red Ball Trucking, Rapid Film, Falstaff Beer and a Wells Fargo armored truck.
He retired due to ill health in 1988.
He was a member of the United Veteran's Club of Grand Island, was a blood donor for the Red Cross and an avid bingo player.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Douglas, Steve and Randy, all of Grand Island and Johnny of Sedan, Kan.; two daughters, Terri (Mrs. Dave) Alkire and Kimberly (Mrs. Leland) Smidt, both of Grand Island; 22 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Elaine (Mrs. Don) Lahners of Sun City, Ariz., Sharon (Mrs. David) Jared and Jeannie Rubsaman, both of Coos Bay, Ore.
He was preceded in death by one grandson and two granddaughters.
Almar Wagner
Almar B. Wagner, 76, of Grand Island, died at his home after an illness.
Services are pending at Kleine Funeral Home.
Merle Gilroy
SPALDING -- Merle I. Gilroy, 79, of rural Spalding died Thursday, June 17, 1999, at Bryan LGH Medical Center in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding. The Rev. John Cook will officiate. Burial will be at St. Michael's Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday with rosaries at 4:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Dolce Scheef Mortuary in Spalding.
Mrs. Gilroy was born March 22, 1920, in Wolbach to Benjamin and Cecil (Whalen) Studley. She attended a country school northeast of Wolbach and graduated from Wolbach High School.
She married
Martin Gilroy in May 1940 at Wolbach. They moved to a farm southwest of Spalding. In 1948 they moved to a farm three miles south of Spalding where she still lived with her son Ed.
She was a member of the St. Anns Alter Society.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy (Mrs. Delbert) Overstreet of Plano, Texas and Janet (Mrs. Joe) Mitchell of Altus, Okla.; one son Ed of Spalding; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons Marty and Robert; one sister, Pauline Olson; and two brothers, Kenneth and Wanne Studley.
