Albin Dobrovsky
ORD -- Albin Dobrovsky, 85, of Ord died Monday, April 15, 2002, at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ord Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Dean Hiser will officiate. Burial will be in Ord Bohemian cemetery with military rites provided by Ord VFW Post 7029 and American Legion Post 38.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel.
Memorials are suggested to his grandchildren.
Mr. Dobrovsky was born Dec. 15, 1916, north of Burwell to Vincent and Josephine (Psota) Dobrovsky. He attended grade school at Garfield County until the family moved to a farm on the south edge of Ord. He graduated from Ord High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. He returned to the Ord area where he farmed the family farm.
He married
Mabel Brown on Sept. 21, 1955, in Taylor. He continued to farm and in 1961, he went to work for the Ord Power Plant. He retired at 21 years in 1982. The couple lived on a farm on the north edge of Ord since 1977.
He was a member of VFW. He enjoyed raising and caring for animals, gardening and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Valarie and Steve Lytle of Ord; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Vincent, an infant son, two brothers, Joseph and Charlie, and three sisters, Sylvia Willhite, Regina Paddock and Mary Wozniak.
Barbara Schug
KEARNEY -- Barbara E. Schug, 54, of Kearney died Friday, April 12, 2002, as a result of a car accident south of Crawford.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Kearney. The Rev. Dr. Ron Roemmich will officiate. Burial will be in Kearney Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary and until service time Thursday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Steven and Barbara Schug Kearney High School Memorial Scholarship Fund or to the church.
Mrs. Schug was born May 16, 1947, at Storm Lake, Iowa, to William C. and Dorothy V. (Jacques) Weatherly. She was educated in Storm Lake, graduating from Storm Lake High School in 1965.
She married
Steven L. Schug on June 6, 1965, in Storm Lake. The couple moved to Kearney in 1976. She attended beauty school and later worked for Amana and various consulting and research firms including her own, Schug Research. Her husband took over the family Culligan Water Conditioning business. The couple later moved to Grand Island. In 1979, they returned to Kearney. She started her own business out of her basement called Bubble Factory that she ran until selling it a couple of years ago. She later worked in the guidance office at Kearney High School. Her husband died Feb. 19, 1992. After his death, she continued to run the family Culligan business.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, was vice-president of the Chamber of Commerce Envoys, Buffalo County co-chairperson for the Johanns campaign and past member of Kearney Juniors Women. She was also a member of Birthday Club, Bridge Club, Welcome Wagon, Kearney High Booster Club, Handmad'ns and Weeping Widows. She enjoyed spending time with family and traveling with friends.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Todd S. and Liza Schug of Dover, Del.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia L. and Wayne Bahler of Lamar and Jennifer L. and Ken Miller of Jefferson City, Mo.; five grandchildren; her mother and stepfather, Dorothy and George Krohn of Storm Lake, Iowa; a sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Dennis Strum of New Hampton, Iowa; and a brother and sister-in-law, Timothy and Barbara Weatherly of Cape Girardeau, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her husband and father.
Hubertha Sobieszyk
SARGENT -- Hubertha "Bert" Sobieszyk, 90, of Sargent died Sunday, April 14, 2002, at Sargent Nursing Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island. The Rev. Bernard Berger will officiate. Burial will be in Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday with a 7 p.m. wake at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Sargent Public Library.
Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Sobieszyk was born Aug. 3, 1911, at Paplin to Joe and Kathryn Roy. The family moved to Ashton where her father had a gas station and her mother managed the hotel. She helped her mother in the hotel. She attended school in Humphrey and stayed with nuns during the week, taking the train back to Ashton on weekends. She completed the eighth grade and then helped her mother at home.
She married
Ed Sobieszyk of Loup City. The couple lived in Columbus. In 1945, they moved to Grand Island where she helped her father in a tavern for a short period of time. Mr. Sobieszyk started his own business, Ed Sobieszyk & Sons Concrete Contractors, where she was a bookkeeper for for 36 years. After her husband's death, she joined her son Jerry when he moved to Sargent to begin farming.
She enjoyed getting books at the Grand Island Public Library, crocheting, embroidery work and gardening.
Survivors include sons, Jerry of Sargent and Nick of Kearney; a daughter, Kathryn Dugger of Knoxville, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Martin and Jean Ann Roy of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Ed Jr. and a sister, Altoria Ballard.
Betty Wood
BROKEN BOW -- Betty L. Wood, 78, Broken Bow died Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at the Heritage Hall.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Broken Bow. The Revs. Kathy LaRoque and David Harder will officiate. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Kearney Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Govier Brothers Mortuary.
Memorial are suggested to the church.

Mrs. Wood was born Aug. 2, 1923, at Kearney to William and Martha (Coufal) Greutman. She grew up in Miller and graduated from Miller High School in 1942. After graduating, she worked as a beautician in Kearney.
She married
Neil L. Wood on Feb. 6, 1943, in Laramie, Wyo., where he was serving in the U.S. Army. She lived in Miller after her husband was transferred overseas in the U.S. Army. At the conclusion of World War II, they lived on the Wood Ranch south of Broken Bow. They lived there for 32 years. Her husband raised Hereford cattle and quarter horses. They moved to Broken Bow in 1978 due to her health problems. They celebrated their 59th anniversary in 2002.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, P.E.O. Chapter-S and the Easter Star. She enjoyed spending time with her family and painting.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Micke Ryan of Minden; a son, Walt of Omaha; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Arlene Veal of Medford, Ore.
She was preceded in death a sister, Delores Nard.
Lisa Zywiec Hansen
CENTRAL CITY -- Lisa Marie Zywiec Hansen, 38, of Central City, died at her home of natural causes Tuesday, April 16, 2002.
Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Central City with the Rev. Nelson Newman officiating. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the chapel of Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
Mrs. Hansen was born on January 27, 1964, in Fullerton to Dominic "Dick" and Mariann (Landers) Zywiec. She grew up in Central City and graduated from Central City High School in 1982. She attended Joseph's School of Beauty in Hastings.
She married
Joseph Hansen in 1986 in Central City. Mrs. Hansen worked as a hairstylist, taught at Joseph's School of Beauty and worked as a radio DJ on Station KZEN. She owned and operated Tag Team Tours and she and her mother were guides for tours to Fort Randal. Most recently, Mrs. Hansen and her fiance worked together as professional truck drivers.
Mrs. Hansen was baptized, confirmed and was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. She enjoyed music and horses. She was an artist and had been a foster mother. Lisa and her mother co-authored two books, "Casino Almanac" and "Casino USA."
Survivors include a son, Tyler Hansen of St. Paul; her parents of Central City; her fiance, Richard Czubachowski of Central City; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike and Jonita Zywiec and Rick and Candy Zywiec, all of Central City; sister and brother-in-law, Chris and Greg Wendt of Doniphan; and a stepdaughter, Sarah Hickman of Ft. Stewart, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
Frances Glad
LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Frances Lenora Glad, 78, of Lawrence, Kan., formerly of Polk and Central City, died Monday, April 15, 2002 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Services are pending with Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
'Al' Bendig
AURORA -- Albert "Al" Bendig, 73, of Aurora died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, at the Memorial Hospital in Aurora.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Dr. Joe Scahill will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in the Memorial cemetery at Fremont.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Higby Mortuary in Aurora. Masonic services will be at 8 p.m.
Mr. Bendig was born May 23, 1926, in Boyd County to Paul and Vera (Ott) Bendig. He grew up in Boyd County and graduated from Bonesteel High School in Bonesteel, S.D. He served during World War II from 1944 until his discharge. He was a foreman at Hormel's Meat Packing Company in Fremont for many years.
He married
Marge Driskill on Jan. 9, 1964. They operated Al & Marge's Tavern for 11 years in Arlington. He also managed restaurants in Columbus and Ashland and managed country clubs in Wahoo and Aurora. They owned and operated Marge's Cafe in Aurora for five years.
He was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church, member and past president of the Aurora Lion's Club, past state president of the Eagles Club, Aerie 200 in Fremont from 1972 to 1973, and was regional president of Nebraska and Iowa. He was also a member of the Grand Island Elks Lodge, belonged to the VFW, Legion, 40 & 8, and was a member of the Aurora Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Paul of Duluth, Ga., Larry of Houston, Texas and Harry of Wahoo; a daughter, Sharon (Mrs. James) Ferguson of Des Moines, Iowa.; five brothers, Leonard of O'Neill, Arthur of Fremont, Herman of Naper, Raymond of Des Moines, Iowa, and Marvin of Great Falls, Mont.; five sisters, Ethel Stahlecker, Loraine (Mrs. Bob) Woehl, both of Fontanelle, Margaret (Mrs. Dave) Heien of Spencer, Florence (Mrs. Bill) Rogero of San Mateo, Fla. and Alma (Mrs. Dick) Tiernan of Ankeny, Iowa; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and his mother of Fontanelle.
