Raymond Markus
KEARNEY -- Raymond L. Markus, 79, of Kearney died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Kearney. The Rev. Mike McDonald will officiate. Military honors at graveside will be conducted at the Kearney cemetery by the VFW No. 759 and American Legion Post No. 52 of Kearney.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home in Kearney and one hour prior to service time Thursday at the church. A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Markus was born Sept. 25, 1921, in Kearney to William and Mary (Erpelding) Markus. He attended the Buda school. He entered the Army during WWII and served under Gen. Patton in France and Germany.
He married
Betty Gleason on Feb. 7, 1948, in Grand Island.
The couple farmed east of Kearney before moving to Kearney in 1968. After moving to Kearney he was a plumber until his retirement.
He was a member of the church, VFW Post no. 759, American Legion Post No. 52 and the Kearney Eagles Club. He enjoyed gardening and coin collecting.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, David and Jim, both of Kearney; seven daughters, Donna Kimmel, Celia Panowicz and Melonie Markus all of Fort Lupton, Colo., Judy Payne of Grand Island, Mary Panowicz and Bobbie Jo Markus, both of Kearney and Christal Markus of Omaha; one brother, Laverne of Kearney; two sisters, Marie Stengel of Riverdale and Lavonne Wise of Kearney; 17 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son; one grandson; one sister and three brothers.
Henry Stange
CAIRO -- Henry "Bus" Stange, 87, of Cairo, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at Lakeview Rehabilitation Center in Grand Island.
Graveside memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday at the Mt. Pleasant cemetery south of Cairo. The Rev. Eldon Elsberry officiated. There will be no visitation. The body was cremated.
Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Pleasant cemetery directory fund or the donor's choice.
Apfel Funeral Home of Cairo is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Stange was born April 21, 1913, at Cairo to Fred and Agnes (Ericksen) Stange. He attended Cairo schools and graduated from Cairo high School.
He married
Dorothy Roberts on Oct. 21, 1932, at Grand Island. The couple lived their entire married
life in the Cairo area. Mr. Stange farmed in the Cairo area until his retirement in 1977. Mrs. Stange died May 24, 1994.
Survivors include two sons, Barry and Donald of Cairo; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by two sisters and one son, Gary.
Ty Vincent
SARGENT -- Ty Arthur Vincent, 5 years-old of rural Sargent, died Saturday afternoon after being run over by a semi-trailer truck Saturday afternoon at a grain elevator.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Evangelical Free Church Family Life Center. The Rev. Dan Varns will officiate. Burial will be at a later date. There will be no visitation. Rhoad Funeral Home of Sargent is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Jason Rayburn
OAKWOOD, GA. -- Jason S. Rayburn, 27, of Oakwood, Ga., formerly of Grand Island, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000.
Services are pending with Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Alfred Larson
Alfred D. Larson, 93, of Riverside Lodge Retirement Community of Grand Island, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wolbach. The Revs. Joel Schroeder and Marsha Jark-Swain will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside cemetery in Wolbach.
There will be no visitation.

Mr. Larson was born Oct. 24, 1906, on the family farm near Wolbach to Anders and Anna Louisa (Johnson) Larson. He grew up on the family farm near Wolbach, which his parents homesteaded when they immigrated to the United States from Sweden in the late 1800s.
He attended the Midway District No. 26 Rural School in Greeley County. After his schooling, he farmed with his brothers, Harry and August. The Larson Bros. Company was at one time one of the largest cattle, farming and ranching operations in the area.
On Nov. 5, 1930, he married
Evelyn Andrews at Council Bluffs, Iowa. After their marriage the couple lived on the family farm near Wolbach where he and his brothers continued to operate the Larson Bros. Company. Subsequently, Mr. and Mrs. Larson formed the Larson Cattle Company, which was primarily engaged in farming, ranching and the breeding and feeding of cattle. In 1977, the couple retired and moved to the Davis Lake Subdivision of Grand Island. They moved to the Riverside Lodge Retirement Community in 1994 where they lived for the remainder of their marriage.
Mr. Larson enjoyed raising cattle and the National Cattleman's Association, of which he was a long time member. Their annual meetings in Las Vegas were always a highlight for him. He and his wife traveled extensively during their married
life. He also liked to socialize with residents and to play cards with the Men's Group at the Lodge. He delighted in the company of his family and those who knew him best were well aware of his sense of humor and how he loved to laugh.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grand Island. Other memberships included the Fraternal Order of Elks, BPOE 604, Grand Island Saddle Club, and he was a former member of the Masonic Lodge and the Wolbach Saddle Club. He also served on the Wolbach Public Schools Board of Education and was a 4-H Leader for many years.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sharon (Mrs. Larry) Rosander of Wolbach and Jan (Mrs. E.J.) Thayer of Grand Island; five grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, infant twins and August and Harry Larson and two sisters Ellen Teilmann and Anna Woodward.
Catherine Price
Catherine A. Price, 87, of Grand Island died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000, at Tiffany Square.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Messiah Lutheran Church. The Rev. Douglas Stensby and Gretchen Diers will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kleine Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 5 to 8 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to Messiah Lutheran or the donor's choice.
Jack Rodysill
Jack C. Rodysill, 63, of Grand Island died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, at the St. Francis Memorial Health Center of Grand Island.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Cheryl Lamb will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Rodysill was born Dec. 24, 1936, to Clarence and Verna (Held) Rodysill at Central City. He grew up in Central City and was educated in the Central City Public Schools. After his high school graduation, he furthered his education at Lincoln School of Commerce at Lincoln. He entered the U.S. Army in April 1960 and was discharged in May 1962.
He married
Janice Philson on June 2, 1962, at Grand Island, after which the couple lived in Grand Island where he worked with the Mason and Hangar's Silas Mason Co. Inc. at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant and later at the Hall County Assessor's Office.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was an elder and deacon at the church. He was a merit badge counsel for Boy Scout Troop 119.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Jade Rodysill of Austin, Texas; a daughter, Jacy Rodysill of Grand Island and a brother, Jerry Rodysill of Minneapolis, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Jay; and a sister, Dorla Nickel.
