Clayton C. Hesser Jr., 55, of Grand Island died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at St. Francis Memorial Health Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church's Gollaher Chapel with the Rev. Onamae Waddel officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until noon Wednesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home and from 1 p.m. until service time at the church.
Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church.
Mr. Hesser was born July 29, 1946, to Clayton C. Hesser Sr. and Norma (Delabar) Hesser at Beatrice. He grew up in Cortland and graduated from Cortland High School in 1964.
Mr. Hesser married
Jean E. Burns on July 31, 1966, at Overton. He later graduated from Kearney State College in 1973.
He worked as a Hallmark Store manager and a Levers Brother territory manager, in insurance sales and in collectibles.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and a past president and board member of Third City Baseball. He enjoyed coaching baseball and basketball, officiating football and basketball, and umpiring baseball. His other interests included hunting, golfing, playing cards and reading westerns.
Survivors include his wife, Jean of Grand Island; two sons and one daughter-in-law, T.J. and Elke Hesser of Lincoln, and Kurt Hesser of Grand Island; a daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Jeff Apple of Grand Blanc, Mich.; three grandsons; his father, Clayton C. Hesser Sr. of Lincoln; a sister, Meredith Krauter of Clatonia; and a brother, John Hesser of Cortland.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Evelyn Kemptar
Evelyn L. Kemptar, 88, of Grand Island died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.

Juanita Roman, 86, of Grand Island died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, at Beverly Healthcare in Lakeview.
Services are pending with All Faiths Funeral Home.
Ruth Vieth
Ruth Vieth, 78, of Grand Island, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at Tiffany Square Care Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church with the Rev. John D. Russell officiating. Cremation will follow the services. Private burial will be at a later date at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with the family receiving friends from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Kleine Funeral Home.
Survivors include her husband, Robert of Grand Island.
Genevieve Hubbard
90, Seamstress
KEARNEY -- Genevieve P. Hubbard, 90, of Kearney died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, at Mt. Carmel Home in Kearney.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Kearney with the Rev. Michael McDonald officiating. Burial will be in the Immaculate Conception cemetery in Elm Creek.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with a prayer vigil at 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Carmel Home Alzheimer's Unit or the church.
O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home in Kearney is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hubbard was born in Petersburg on April 10, 1911, to Charles and Ida (Jochum) Bode. She grew up at Raeville. She attended seamstress school in Elgin.
She married
Joseph Riecks on Aug. 13, 1929, in Petersburg. The couple lived in Sutherland and moved to Lexington in 1939.
She married
Morace Hubbard in 1944. They moved to the Elm Creek-Overton area. Mrs. Hubbard worked at the Kearney air base during World War II. She managed an Elm Creek creamery during the time they lived in Elm Creek.
They moved to Kearney in the 1950s. She worked for Modern Cleaners and for Bissell's Decorating for many years. She also did alterations in her home for many businesses.
She was a member of the Catholic church, Catholic Daughters, American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary. Mrs. Hubbard enjoyed dancing, playing cards, gardening and visiting with family and friends.
Survivors include three sons, Charles Riecks of Grand Junction, Colo., William Riecks of Holland, Mich., and Dan Riecks of Albuquerque, N.M.; two daughters, Marijean Methe of Kearney and Margaret Oliveira of Coopertown, Fla.; three stepsons, Harold Hubbard of Tucson, Ariz., Gary Hubbard of Elm Creek and Dennis Hubbard of Anaheim, Calif.; six brothers, Robert of Lyman, Charles of Cathedral City, Calif., Gerald of Camarillo, Calif., Melvin of Grimes, Calif., Francis "Max" of Clarksdale, Ariz., and John of Wood River; and two sisters, Rhita Hock of Lexington and Patricia Young of Okabochi, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, a brother, an infant sister and one step-grandchild.

COMSTOCK -- L. Leone Krikac, 96, of Comstock died Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, at the Beverly Health Care Center in Sargent.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Comstock. The Rev. Mark Crist will officiate. Burial will be in the Douglas Grove cemetery in Comstock.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent.

Evelyn L. Kemptar, 88, of Grand Island died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. Patrick Grindol will officiate. Burial will be private for the family in Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Cairo.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association.
Mrs. Kemptar was born Nov. 21, 1913, at Grand Island to John and Elizabeth (Bailey) Wicker. She grew up in several Nebraska communities, receiving most of her education in Tecumseh and graduating from Tecumseh High School in 1931.
She married
Kenneth F. Kemptar on Jan. 1, 1936, in Grand Island. The couple lived in Cairo until later moving to Grand Island.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and Grand Island Women's Club. She enjoyed playing bridge and traveling.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Bryson of Kearney; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Nancy Kemptar of North Platte; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Elaine Wicker of Castro Valley, Calif.; and a sister, Shirley Wicker of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Jack Wicker.
