'Vern' DeBolt
73, Pool salesman
LOUP CITY -- Ralph LaVern "Vern" DeBolt, 73, of Loup City died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Loup City with the Rev. Shawn L. Kitzing officiating. Burial with military honors will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fort McPherson National cemetery at Maxwell.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Peters Funeral Home in Loup City.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mr. DeBolt was born on Aug. 30, 1928, in Ainsworth to Ralph and Emma (Philben) DeBolt. As a child he moved with his family to Scottsbluff where he received his education and graduated from Scottsbluff High School. He served in the U.S. Army from September 1946 to July 1947.
He married
Carol Heimbuck in 1945.
He married
Loretta "Annie" Anne Kellander on Oct. 22, 1956, at Denver. They first lived in Scottsbluff, where he managed the Bluffs Theatre. In 1965, he began working for Associated Pool Builders out of Valentine. In 1976, the family moved to Loup City where he lived the rest of his life. He continued to work for Associated Pool Builders until his death.
He enjoyed Nebraska football, fishing and bowling.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and American Legion Post No. 48 of Loup City. He was also instrumental in starting the Sons of American Legion in Loup City.
Survivors include his wife; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Nancy DeBolt of Kimball; four daughters and sons-in-law, Tracey and Tim Dorsey, Tina and John Kalinowski and Toni and Mark Oseka, all of Loup City, and Terri and Jamie Rowley of Elm Creek; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Yvonne DeBolt of San Bernardino, Calif.
Duane Grossnicklaus
BARTLETT -- Duane Grossnicklaus, 73, of Bartlett died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital in O'Neill.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Chambers with the Rev. Allen Bergstrazer officiating. Burial will be in the Bartlett Cemetery.
Visitation is from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mr. Grossnicklaus was born March 25, 1928, at Platte Center to Charles and Minnie (Petersen) Grossnicklaus. In 1945, he was a rancher and moved from Platte Center to a ranch at Beaver Valley north of Bartlett.
He married
Connie Jarman on June 12, 1949, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Chambers.
He served on the Bartlett School Board and Rural Fire Department. He was on the Lutheran Church building committee in Bartlett and Chambers and had served in several offices. He just received a 25-year award for serving on the Education Service Unit No. 8 board of directors in Neligh, representing Wheeler County.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Larry Davis of Chambers, Karen and Dennis Pokorny of Bartlett and Sally and T.J. Novak of Lincoln; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lauretta Beecher of Columbus and Mila Wilson of Pacific Grove, Calif.; and one brother, Merlin Grossnicklaus of Grand Island.
Marie Klawonn
AURORA -- Marie Klawonn, 88, of Aurora died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Hampton. The Rev. Loren Cooper will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora.
Margaret Kliewer
STOCKHAM -- Margaret Kliewer, 86, of Stockham died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson. The Revs. George Kaufman and Paul Nauman will officiate. Burial will be in the Friesen cemetery near Henderson.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora.
Mrs. Kliewer was born Jan. 13, 1916, to David J. and Margaretha (Penner) Regehr in Mountain Lake, Minn. She grew up on a farm and attended Butterfield Elementary and Mountain Lake Public School. She was baptized at Bethel Church in Mountain Lake. She received her licensed practical nurse diploma from the Chicago School of Nursing in 1947.
She married
John Kliewer on April 10, 1948, at Mountain Lake. They lived in the Henderson area. They moved to the Stockham area in 1960. She worked as the janitor for the Stockham Church and school and as a medical aide at the Bethesda Home. Mr. Kliewer died Oct. 9, 1979.
Mrs. Kliewer enjoyed gardening and baking, especially zwieback, which she often gave to others. She also enjoyed sewing circles at Bethesda Church and Stockham Ladies Ministry, and she made many quilts for her daughters and grandchildren. She went to Senior Center activities in Aurora.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, John W. and Sharon, and Harry J. and Margie, all of Stockham; two daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene L. and Ed Penner of Marquette and Marjorie J. and William Strong of Giltner; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Olga Regehr of Robbinsdale, Minn.; a sister and brother-in-law, Rosella and Ervin Neufeld of Mountain Lake, Minn.; and two sisters-in-laws, Mabel Regehr of Minnesota and Sarah Regehr of Windom, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant daughter, a son-in-law, four brothers and two sisters.
Victoria Kusek

RAVENNA -- Victoria C. Kusek, 95, of Ravenna died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at Good Samaritan Center in Ravenna.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Rev. Reginald A. Urban will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in Loup City.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Peters Funeral Home in Loup City with a 4 p.m. rosary. Visitation will continue from 6 to 8 .m. Wednesday at the church with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Lena Olson
95, Farmer
BROKEN BOW -- Lena Z. Olson, 95, of Broken Bow died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Burial will be in Round Valley cemetery north of Broken Bow.
Visitation is from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to Heritage Hall Nursing Home or Round Valley Cemetery.
Mrs. Olson was born March 21, 1906, north of Broken Bow to George T. and Hannah (Rose) Palmer. She attended rural schools and graduated from Sargent High School in 1924. After high school, she taught in the Antelope School District for one year.
She married
Henry Olson on Aug. 31, 1925, in Ord. They lived in the Round Valley community. In 1970, the couple retired from farming and moved to Broken Bow. Mr. Olson died Sept. 29, 1977. She moved to Independence Hall in March 1994 and to Heritage Hall Nursing Home in 1995.
She enjoyed flowers, decorating her home and entertaining friends.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Laddie and Evelyn Olson of Broken Bow; one daughter and son-in-law, Cecel and Vernon Carson of Scottsbluff; seven grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two infant daughters, Donna and Carol; three sisters, Fannie, Etta and Mary; and five brothers, Percy, Otto, Faye, Edward and Robert.
Margaret Burr
Margaret Mary Helen Burr, 78, of Grand Island, died Tuesday, January 22, 2002, at BryanLGH East in Lincoln.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Lutheran Church. The Revs. Sheri Lodel and Howard Rasmussen will officiate. Burial of cremains will be at a later date. There will be no visitation.
Kleine Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to Calvary Lutheran Church or the donors' choice.
Mrs. Burr was born Feb. 1, 1923, at Talmage to John and Emma (Frerichs) Juilfs. She grew up and received her education in Talmage.
She married
Orville Burr on June 18, 1944, in Talmage. After Mr. Burr returned from the military, they moved to Johnson.
Mrs. Burr taught school for 35 years. She taught at the elementary schools in Nemaha, Otoe, Dodge and Hall Counties.
She graduated from Kearney State Teachers' College in 1976. The family moved to Grand Island in 1982 and she retired from teaching in 1986.
Mrs. Burr was a foster grandparent at Wasmer Elementary School after she retired until her health failed.
She enjoyed raising flowers, doing crossword puzzles, reading, spending time with her family and was an avid sports fan.
She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, foster grandparents, Legion Auxiliary, Eagles Auxiliary, Retired Teachers Association, Faith Circle of Calvary Lutheran Church and Women of the ELCA.
Survivors include her husband; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Alan Burr of Alda, and Neil and Sandy Burr of Grand Island; one daughter and son-in-law, Beverlee and Kevin Keller of Lincoln; five grandchildren; one brother, John Juilfs of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; and one sister, Noma Sohl of Lincoln.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Merlin and Welton Juilfs.
