Betty Giese
Betty A. Giese, 86, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at Tiffany Square Care Center.
Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Robert Barlow
Robert Thomas Barlow, 92, of Grand Island died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002 at his home.
Services will be at a later date.
Mr. Barlow was cremated. There will be no visitation.
All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Barlow was born on Dec. 18, 1909, in Kearney to Jesse Scott and Beatrice (Browning Haines) Barlow. He attended Kearney Schools and was a member of the Kearney High School Band.
He married
Josephine Joyce Svanda of Ravenna on Sept. 14, 1937 in Kearney.
Mr. Barlow was a lifelong resident of Central Nebraska. He worked with his father as a carpenter and later was a lineman with Central Power and Consumers Public Power in Kearney. In 1944, he founded Barlow Electric in Kearney, which he ran until 1962. In 1962, he moved to Alma to direct the city owned electrical distribution system. He moved to Grand Island in 1964 where he was employed by Knox Construction, Lawrence Electric, Fred's Electric and Ensley Electric. He retired from the profession in 1975.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Kearney, a 76-year member of the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department, a 62-year member of Rob Morris Lodge No. 46 in Kearney and a member of Tehama Temple in Hastings.
He was a mall-walker, a CB buff and enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Roberta R. Barlow of Grand Island; one son, Richard L. Barlow of Kearney; and two sisters, Mary Altmaier of Kearney and Dorothy Eifert of Norfolk.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
'Charlotte' Piper
BURWELL -- "Charlotte" Berdine Piper, 86, of Burwell, formerly of Stromsburg, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Metz Mortuary chapel in York. Burial will be in Arborville cemetery near Polk.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Friday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Piper was born Nov. 28, 1915, on a farm near Bradshaw to Edgar and Ina (Boulton) Farley. She was baptized in the English Lutheran Church in Benedict and graduated from Benedict High School in 1933.
She married
LeRoy Piper on Aug. 14, 1934. The couple farmed near Polk. In 1940, they moved to a farm near York and in 1955, they moved to Delta, Colo., where they lived until 1960. They moved to Stromsburg where they operated the Piper Construction Company. After her husband's death in 1971, she moved to Burwell to be near her son.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Lester and Connie Piper of Burwell, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a brother and sister-in-law Homer and Virginia Farley of Osceola.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Hazel Stucker
BROKEN BOW -- Hazel P. Stucker, 89, of Broken Bow died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Jerry Ruzicka will officiate. Burial will be in Ansley Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Stucker was born Sept. 21, 1912, in Ansley to William and Sarah J. (George) Price. She was educated in Ansley.
She married
Wayne J. "Bob" Stucker on May 29, 1931, in Phillipsburg, Kan. They operated Stucker's Grocery in Ansley during the 1930s. They later moved to Broken Bow. Her husband died Dec. 8, 1996. The were married
for 65 years.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Ansley. She enjoyed visiting, having coffee and playing cards. She also enjoyed Boston Terrier dogs.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Margaret Stucker of Kiowa, Colo., eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Danny Stucker; a daughter, Patty Christensen; six brothers, Charles, Ray, Harold, Thomas, Ted and Bruce; and three sisters, Bessie Coffman, Annie Hawk and infant sister, Minnie.
Donna Wilhelms
HASTINGS -- Donna Wilhelms, 75, of Hastings died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior. The Rev. John Green will officiate.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Wilhelms was born Sept. 2, 1926, in Ruskin to William C. and Clara M. (Walrcath) Larkins. She grew up in Ruskin and graduated from Ruskin High School.
She married
Leonard Wilhelms on Feb. 11, 1954, in Fairbury. She worked as a nurse at the Thayer County Hospital and also the Superior Good Samaritan Center. She was the Association for Retarded Citizens (ARC) assistant coach for the Special Olympics. She took care of her son for many years until she could no longer do it on her own. While living at Goldbeck Towers in Hastings, she spent many hours volunteering there. Her husband died Oct. 17, 1974.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons, Jim Gray of Clay Center, Robert Wilhelms of Hastings and Tom Wilhelms of Superior; three daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Denny Mohle, and Patricia and Scott Duncan, all of Hastings, and Cindy and Steve Rogers of Buhler, Kan.; 19 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Katherine and Bill Dixon of Superior and Jean Jordan of Edgewater, Colo.; and three brothers and a sister-in-law, Irvin Larkins and Gary Jordan, both of Grand Island, and Bill and Eleanor Larkins of Deshler.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Randy Marks, a grandchild and two sisters, Dorothy White and Joan Hiatt.
Woodrow Witt
BURWELL -- Woodrow R. "Woody" Witt, 87, of Burwell died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at United Methodist Church in Burwell. The Rev. Don Studley will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.
Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society or Diabetes Association.
Mr. Witt was born Sept. 10, 1914, in Valley County to Frank and Ella (Hansen) Witt.
He married
Alice Campbell on July 28, 1935, in Burwell. The couple lived in the Burwell area farming and ranching until 1995. They bought a ranch near Taylor. In 1979, they built a home in Burwell. He continued to travel to the ranch to work. He retired in 1998.
He enjoyed bowling, rodeos and traveling on bus tours with his wife and friends, seeing the Calgary Stampede and horses.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters and a son-in-law, Shirley and Dewayne Barta of Taylor and Sharon Burgess of Burwell; a son, Larry Witt of Burwell; a brother, Russell Witt of Kansas City, Mo.; and a sister, Vera Nichelson of Broken Bow.
He was preceded in death by a grandchild, a brother, Donald Witt, and two sisters, Fern Nelson and Rhoda Miller.
Larry & Rita Beller

LINDSAY -- Larry, 63, and Rita Beller, 59, of Lindsay died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, in Albuquerque, N.M., due to an auto accident.
Services for the couple will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lindsay. The Rev. James Novotny will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday with a rosary from 6 to 7:30 p.m. by Knights of Columbus and Thursday from 9 a.m. until service times at the church.
Mr. Beller was born May 24, 1938, in rural Madison to Lawrence and Elsie (Ramaekers) Beller. He attended Holy Family School in Lindsay. He served in the U.S. Army from Oct. 31, 1957, to July 31, 1959. He was a member of the 261st Signal Battalion Rank PFC, member of the Honor Guard and served 13 months in Korea.
Mrs. Beller was born Oct. 4, 1942, in Central City to Charles and Cecilia (Sliva) Vetick of Fullerton. She attended Fullerton High School and graduated in 1960.
The couple was married
on May 11, 1963, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fullerton. He farmed and had a cattle feed yard with his family. She was a homemaker and farmed with her husband.
He was a member of Knights of Columbus, 3rd Degree council of Holy Family Parish and 4th Degree Assembly of Columbus. He was also a member of Board of Directors of the Lindsay Farmers Coop., Board of Directors of the Bank of Lindsay and Holy Family Catholic Church.
She was a member of Linsday Community Club, Holy Family Guild and Holy Family Catholic Church.
Survivors include six sons and daughters-in-law, Darren and Lisa of Leigh, Dean, Doug and Tracie, Dennis and Julie, and Duane and Shanda, all of Lindsay, and Dale and Shumain of Lincoln and 15 grandchildren.
Mr. Beller is survived by three sisters and brothers-in-law, Bonnie Hegermann of Lindsay, Pat and George Heinmann of Fremont and Celine "Boot" and Alvin Bender of Humphrey; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Mary Catherine Beller of Greeley, Colo., Jerry and Joni Beller of Omaha, Harry and Mary Beller of Schuyler and Bob and Lorrie Beller of Genoa.
Mrs. Beller is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Vickie Vetick of Fullerton.
Mr. Beller was preceded in death by his parents. Mrs. Beller was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Leonard and Clifford Vetick.
